Where it crashes is important as well. Captains Quarters doesn't work well, for instance. Are you getting login? Are you getting character selection? are you entering space or station?
Clear cache as well, that sometimes does the trick.
Edit: Note, if you left the process hung, it will sometimes fail to launch, so make sure the process is dead if it does crash on launch. Oh, and don't use the launcher, see the 'HOWTO: Ubunutu' guide below. |

Upgrade the wine version to 1.7.5 and you will notice the game running smoother along with the game launcher and ingame browser working flawlessly. Only thing that doesn't work now for me is the captains quarters, but since it's now looking doubtful that walking in stations will ever get completed that it makes that part of the game fairly redundant. |

I'm having a very similar problem on Fedora 19. After upgrading from Fedora 17 (where it worked flawlessly) except for CQ and the browser, now it will run for anywhere from 5 mins to 30 mins and crash. When it crashes it locks up the entire desktop and the only way to escape is to press the power button until it forces a power down.
I've spent the past two days installing and reinstalling my Nvidia drivers assuming that was where it was at fault.
I don't mean to hijack the thread, just wanted to advise the same issue is occuring on other distros. |

This could be a couple things. It could be an individual texture, it could be a command, or it could be your video card overheating.
If you have it lock the desktop, hit control-alt-f1 to ship to terminal mode, log in, do 'ps -ef | grep -i exe' and fine the exefile.exe running, kill that process, then try to go back into X by hitting control-alt-f7. That should fix it. Or you can just stop x and restart it, so at least you don't have to POST and boot. (this varies amongst different linux distros)

When i try hit to switch in console - any inputs freeze - Caps Lock and others leds do not on/off on press. Earlier helped connect through ssh and - WINEPREFIX="game_dir" wineserver -k But it does not help the last year. I think - wine process with eve lock something in drivers. This typically happens when running two or more clients, but may one.
