looking at the info for the modded deepcore miner II' it says mining yield 120 ore units AND specialization crystal yield 120 ore units. Does that mean I get 240 ore units using a i.e kernite crystal on kernite? and furthermore the multiplier on the tech 1 crystal, does that get added on top of that again? how does it all work out really?
(2 more days till I can test and see for my self, but kinda curious so any info helps really=) )

No, don't even bother with the crystal specialization number. Instead, this is how a MDCMII breaks down(not including skills):
Base mining rate: 120m3/cycle T1 Mining Crystals: 1.625 multiplier* T2 Mining Crystals: 1.75 mulitplier* T1 Crystal Mining rate: 120 * 1.625 = 195 T2 Crystal Mining rate: 120 * 1.75 = 210
* Does not include Mercoxit crystals, which have a lower multiplier ---- FREEE Explorer Lead Carebear |

Cheers =)
So that would basicly translate into no point to bother using modded deepcore miner II's with crystal for anything else than mercoxite?

Miner II - 60 m3/minute MDCM II - 195 m3/3 minute cycle with T1 Crystal 60m3*3 = 180m3/3
Assuming my math is correct and I'm not missing anything crucial (I'm not skilled for MDCM II yet), you're still doing better with a MDCM II + T1 crystal than flat Miner II's by about 10%, unskilled.
Not to mention with skilling you'll be hitting higher modified numbers than with a lower base value (195*1.25 is more than 180*1.25, for Mining V). Not to mention it's less of a hassle to drag to your can every 3 minutes instead of every minute. Not to mention the versatility you have with a MDCM II.
So uh, there you have it.

Actually, you can, you just need to understand what it means.
The two different yield values show the yield you will get in two different situations. The crystal specialisation shows the yield you get when:
asteriod type mined = crystal specialisation type.
i.e. when you're mining the "right" type of roid for your crystal. The basic yield value is the yield you get when mining any other type.
While they start out identical, when you start fitting them to ships and putting crystals in them, the two yields will start to differ, with the crystal bonus only being applied to the speciality yield.
The important thing to remember, and what most people get wrong, is that you get one yield or the other, not both. ------- There is no magic Wand of Fixing, and it is not powered by forum whines. |

MCDM2s aren't worth the effort. The additional yield you get from using a crystal is far outweighed by having to buy the crystals and keep extra crystals in your hold (these things are surprisingly large).
Either use MCDM2s for mining Mercoxit or stick with Miner 2s.
