At one time I remember being able set up a full chain from raw mats to finished items for Robotics with Command Center Upgrades 4 on one planet.
Yesterday I tried to set it up and ran out of power. I could only fit enough stuff to extract and make about half the items.
I try to stay on top of things but cannot recall quite when this might have changed. |

The planet you tried recently probably has a much larger diameter than what you were previously harvesting. Larger diameter = longer links = more juice needed to run them. You can check the diameters here: http://eveplanets.com/
I blame high fructose corn syrup for making the planets fatter.

You also might have been running the old PI setup with 1-3 extractors and then factories etc.
The new setups use extracter heads with up to 10 miners per head. These eat up a massive amount of pg |

You can find the radius on the planet into.

... would be nice if CCP found a few spare minutes to create some hardwire implants that allow a PI player to augment Command Center power, cpu, etc..
Just saying... since it's highly overdue.

And then you PI would totally break if you even clone jumped or got podded. If it did not break then be worse because everyone would just create a PI clone, setup the planets and then never use that clone again.

The planet you are on has a large radius which means the longer your links are (like the one for your extractor control unit) the more power it takes. So if you need to reach far away from your CC to reach a descent extraction point you will spend more cpu/power on a planet with a large radius then on a smaller one. |

I don't base off my CC, personally, and only go to T2 goods on a single planet ... this lets me squish everything together and just alternate extraction cycles and it works out pretty well. Too bad I can't save two layouts for the extractor heads then fine-tune the placement. |

I base off my CC because: It always zooms the camera to my stuff I never want to move my processors/launchpads because its requires excessively clicky. Fighting is Magic |

most basic setup is to drop a launch pad near your CC and then route everything through the pad. Storage really isnt an issue.
Doing something like 2 3-4 head extractors to 6 P0->P1 to 2 P1-> P2 is pretty easy to do with command center upgrades 4. Setting up 4-5 planets like this wont make you rich but it should next 200-400m a month.
Every once in a while you will have a surplus of one P1 material because no matter what they never extract at the same rate. You can offest this by deleting one head on the surplus and adding it to your need to make. Can also convert the factories as needed back and forth.
My PI tends to be quite lazy but at one point and time i used to make a few billion a month off a couple of accounts. |

And how is the "got podded" part any different, and thus "bad", from any other implant used for any other skill or activity in the game ?
You get podded, you get a new clone and if you have half a CLUE then your new clone has another set of implants already plugged in or waiting to be plugged in.
See what I did there? Cool, huh ?
