Its also why such a large fraction of the player base stays in high sec.
I stay in high-sec for the fine-vintage tears personally. |

It does make you wonder how much better the game would be if some of the top Eve players were put in charge of coming up with features.
Hate to break it to you, but that has been happening since CCP decided that all devs they hire must be from null sec. Oh sorry, you said "top players".
My bad. |

To be fair, it sounds like these people had a crap FC. Boy I'd sure be embarrassed to be in the same alliance as him.

I don't know why I have to say this, but apparently you forgot about that aspect of the game.
*people will shoot at you in highsec, too.
Of course they will.
But if CCP had been a little more, oh, I don't know, a little more thoughtful in how it handled the whole affair, you know what ?
It would have been a mostly different crowd that took the run into this.
As it is, it was nothing more than a sloppy "roam" that essentially tricked a bunch of people into something they really didn't expect.
Okay, "ha hah, good one, you got me". I feel like such a noob. THAT MUCH of the "Plan" succeeded brilliantly. Bravo! whoever you are. Well done.
But the guy / gal who should be feeling like COMPLETE **** right now is the one that turned a great idea into nothing more than a BLOB where the "homefield advantage" rested with some really WELL ORGANIZED and HIGHLY SKILLED Null Sec players -- because that's how they choose to roll and that's their style.
I take nothing away from Goons for being good at what they do. On the contrary, I applaud their contribution to EVE. It's HUGE.
But when an EVENT organizer basically hands a couple of hundred kills to whomever is holding the tactical setup behind gates --- REALLY -- what was the frakking point ?
Shame.
Sure, **** happens. But you know, PEOPLE at least like to think they have a fighting chance if not a fair one.
This cat-ass-trophe didn't even come close. Shame. |

Nobody was expecting tea and crumpets. Everybody who didn't want to risk their bacon had a chance to turn back (what with 10% TiDi there was plenty of time to think about it).
But if we want to argue about any taste of nullsec that highsec got today, it would have to be the incompetence of organization, which in this case was CCP. TiDI is also another thing over which the nullsec community is saying "welcome to nullsec".
Just about every ex-nullsec player cites these kinds of issue as reasons not to want to go back to nullsec.
So I would say that if anybody should be crying right now, it should be nullsec, because this botched live event managed to reinforce various negative viewpoints about nullsec. Not all of them are correct of course. But the worst part about this is that one of the most overblown impressions of nullsec, the notion that you jump into nullsec and you jump into instant death, was reinforced today.
And while nullsec organizations will insist that joining them is a sure way to prevent that (arguably - it still happens) , the perception of what happened today and the reality will not be in sync. "Be a nullsec slave/cog or die" may be the lasting impression in a game that suffers from it. Even lone wolves and small gang PVPers know this to be false, but perception is 9/10 of the reality.
I hope the killmails were good. Because the long lasting damage to the game and to the perception of nullsec is not going to be beneficial to anybody in the long run.
I don't know which I find funnier, that you think there's some shortage of people eager to pay a lot of money to come to null or that you think we're all slaves and/or cogs in a video game that we could always just not play if we were having such an awful time.
The way nullseccers are always complaining it certainly does appear that there is a lack of targets there. I've been out there, deep past the intel channels and gank pipelines to find nobody out there for months at a time.
(the loot from the radar sites was good tho)
When I think of these topics and arguments I'm led to ask "what would be good for everybody?" I haven't been in an NPC corp chat for years, but I remember what was said in them. I see it over and over in forums. We can argue about reality, or perceptions.
But what of this "eager to pay a lot of money to come to null"? Who pays to be there? Are you running a recruitment scam?

I don't have extensive experience with FC's, but from what I've seen you are right. Considering the composition of the fleet, using fleet warp to take everyone to a gate would have been the best course of action, but they stayed with manually telling the main fleet to warp. Commands to align, hold, and jump were given, but with the amount of chatter in fleet and local, the issue of commands being given just once may have been a factor.
One thing this event highlighted for me is just how much easier things are with voice-coms, even if you are just listening to the channel for the FC's commands. |

You make it sound like fleets get easier if the grunts do more than just listening in on the channel for the FCs commands.
Spoiler: they dont, Imagine a 250 man fleet where everyone is talking over one another. |

Personally I loved going along and watching the train wreck that was the high sec blob. TBH this just proves that what I love about this game is working just fine. A organized intelligent group can curb stop a group of babbling fools. |

Just I don't see any point to call it "event" and drag ~2000 people 37 jumps away from Jita in 10% tidi when all they (CCP) wanted to do was common PvP shooting. |
