Anyone have a nice Maelstrom lvl 4 fit? For Brutor Tribe security missions. My alt mission runner was always speed tanking in a tengu or shielded nighthawk. Using projectile or arites with tracking is a new challenge for me in missions.
Do i need to get all factioned out for optimal performace? |

I've never flown a malestrom since I went straight to a vargur/mach but here is what I would probably use to give you an idea. You don't need to pimp it out with tons of faction but I always recommend faction damage mods and faction/deadspace reppers since they are much better than T2 and most aren't overly expensive now thanks to FW. You don't need X-Types for sure but don't go crazy with faction mods and make yourself a gank magnet.
If you haven't heard of eve fitting tool (EFT) then hop into the ships subforum and download it to play around with fittings to see what will work with your skills.

I used 5% hard wires minus the projectile one Only downside is CPU is very tight so you might run into fitting problems if your skills aren't up to 5.

Thanks a lot! this is a big help. I will run this until I get Marauders V finished out. Vargar is my target ship to fly. The skills on my mission runner are all at 5, so this will work great with a nice set of T2 light drones to take out frigates getting close.
Question for you. What about Bastion that everyones talking about? Viable for our Maelstrom/Vargar in pve missions? |

Bastion can only be used on marauders and the vargur is getting the short end of the stick with bastion since artillery already have long ranges so it won't make much of a difference with it's optimal bonus and autocannons have such a short optimal and moderate falloff that you are only going to get a few km extra range but its nothing worth writing home about.
Minmatar ships also somewhat rely on their speed for part of their tank and to close range with the target to help with decreasing the falloff and bastion will anchor you in space for 60 sec which defeats the purpose of face melting DPS of autocannons. The only thing that would be of some use is the added resists/tank boost but the vargur can already tank like a beast so...bastion is pretty much useless on it.
If you look in the features and ideas subforum about the marauder changes there are a ton of rants about how bastion is pretty much useless on the vargur highlighting everything I said above. This doesn't mean bastion can't be used on the vargur it just won't get the benefits of it like the kronos and paladin will. |

Vargur with bastion mode and autocannons is absolute beast on test server, cannot wait for it to go live. You use the MJD to jump into the action instead of out. Dual prop nano Vargur with a 2 slot tank, should tank any mission (I haven't tried them all on the test server), don't ever need to swap modules. I am using that principal on the Golem (torp) also, but not dual prop. I heard the complaints about the Vargur and bastion mode also, but I cant fly the Kronos and Pally to compare it. Compared to the Machariel right now the Vargur isn't really as good at making bounty ticks, compared to the Machariel + noctis however it is right on the money IMHO.
So either way, use the maelstrom fit posted here, its solid. Keep training up and you will eventually want either a Machariel or Vargur no matter what your playstyle.

Which hardwires do you use? I tried this fit on my ship tonight. All my skills are V, so CPU was ok for me. Just noticed DPS guns only is 792.3 for me...total capacitor time is under 1 minute though lol. Used to cap stable Tengu's, so this will take some micro management. I figure nothing will get close that i need to run all my modules. i should be able to pop things long distance :) <-- S'nn Main . my mission runner.

These are the ones I used but you can change some of them since mine were optimized for paladin/nightmare.
Slot 6: EG-605 This is a +5% powergrid implant. It's not needed for the above fit but I need it for another ship I fly.
Slot 7: MR-705 This is a +5% tracking but autocannons have really good tracking as is.
Slot 8: EM-805 This is a +5% capacitor capacity
Slot 9: SS-905 This is a +5% turret damage
SLot 10: LE-1005 This is +5% large energy turret damage
Like I said my hardwire set is mainly used for paladin/NM so I needed things like energy and tracking implants. You can switch out the above for other ones if you want but check the price in game and see how much of a benefit it will give you in EFT first because there's no point in spending 500mil for something that will give you 1 km extra range or 2 sec of extra cap, etc.
I regards to the cap time you won't be running everything at once which helps big time and you have a cap booster but if you find yourself running out of cap all the time you could try fitting some cap rigs or switching the shield booster to a gist one. The gist boosters have half the activation cost with a small sacrifice tank but they sure aren't cheap like the pith ones are.
Just experiment a bit and see what works for you. |

I saved some money and used LP's to get some Large Turret hardwires. Not 5%, but still something. I'm glad you recommended the Optimal Tracking Script, its helped a lot. Don't know why I waited so long to do projectiles. Everything just pops so quick, and I like that there is barely hesitation to the cycle. Can pop one target, and click again to shoot the next one. Thanks again for the advice. |
