*** 'MURICA ALERT ***
I've always had a sense that paying for your EVE subscription with PLEX basically equated to working for less than minimum wage, but I never actually ran the numbers.
So let's see. I pay for a yearly sub (hint: saves money), which comes out to $10.95/mo. Let's just say that you earn minimum wage at $7.25/hr. PLEX is currently 606m isk.
Minimum wage: 1 month of EVE = 1.5hrs of work. ISK/hr needed to beat this: 404m.
$50k/yr = $25/hr: 1 month of EVE = 26 minutes of work. ISK/hr needed to beat this: 1.4b
$100k/yr = $50/hr: 1 month of EVE = 13 minutes of work. ISK/hr needed to beat this: 2.8b
*** END 'MURICA ALERT ***
I'm pretty good at grinding up ISK in EVE, and I know I certainly can't make that reliably and consistently. No, that one time you got a Pithum A-Type Medium Shield Booster from that 6/10 does not mean you make 1b ISK/hr.
CONCLUSION
EVE is dying. I quit EVE. |

Hint: It's a computer game, not a job. You play because it's entertaining.
Also EVE has been dying for the last 10 years, and will keep dying for the next 20 years. In the end you will be right. |

Confirming that economic analysis of opportunity costs is inappropriate when discussing leisure activities because people don't make decisions that way.
Mind you, if EVE is a job for you, then you may as well quit. |

It's appropriate if and when someone suggests that you should PLEX your account

What the **** kind of thread is this?
You can only earn so much money in your RL job. When you come home for 2 hours, you have a choice: - Watch some ****** show - Jerk it to **** since your girl left you 3 months ago - Grind ISK in some MMO that you only play due to having OCD
If you could decide, "okay, I won't grind ISK, I'll go work for $10 an hour" it would be logical not to pay for PLEX with ISK. That's not the case however. |

Your observation is correct and well-known.
However what you fail to account for is that for some people playing EVE for 4 hours is more enjoyable than working for one hour. Thus they choose the former instead of the latter.
Your ISK/hour can also skyrocket pretty fast when you start doing activities which require short setup and a long waiting period (market, moon reactions, etc.)
Regardless of that, I agree that the mentality of "I have to grind X ISK per month to pay for my account" is pretty dumb. |

The problem with trying to equate working on a job with making isk to buy plex to play EVE is that I can't work my job from home, butt naked while drinking beer and chatting with my buds over teamspeak.

You're equating 1 hour of work to X hours of play.
IE, if I don't work, my family will not eat.
If I don't play...
I have to pay $15 to play.
But I'm not playing anyway.
So no real problem here.
If I could get paid to play at minimum wage I would do that instead. |

You make no sense. You go from "general" right to "specific".
What's wrong ? That doesn't happen to you normally.
Besides that, you *could* have such an awesome job, but they aren't that easy to find ... or create.
Or, well, actually, nowadays they are. |

Oh and ...
I pay my sub with cash. I have no reason not to.
No matter how i think about it, it makes no sense to me wasting even only ten minutes to make ISK to pay for gametime.
That's a waste of my time and a waste of my ISK. |
