The moment that all of us have been waiting for, the long awaited Hardware Upgrade is upon us. On Tuesday, 21 February starting at 0800 GMT, the old Tranquility hardware is replaced with 70 new IBM 64-bit AMD dual processor blade servers. This upgrade is expected to be a long and difficult process, so the normal maintenance period will be extended to 24 hours. However, the end result will greatly improve the Eve gaming experience.
We are recommending the training of long duration skills in case the upgrade takes longer than the expected period of time.

I doubt they will do the patch at the same time. Way too many things to go wrong. :) This is just the hardware upgrade, with the patch to follow after things are mostly stable I'm guessing. -- Lil Miner |

How long is long, guesstimate for me...I assume you mean longer than the 24 hours for the upgrade, to give you the time to iron out bugs, week long training perhaps?

Lvl 5 adv weapon upgrades ftw (26d should be long enough to iron out all the initial problems... I hope..) -----------

We are targeting deployment of the Bloodlines patch on 28 February. Patch Notes will be available later next week after the Hardware upgrade.
Since this is a hardware upgrade, there is no need for a client-side patch, nor any changes to the Eve server code that will require patch notes. The 'old' stuff will be used by CCP, so you can't have it.
By recommending a long skill, I mean something that won't complete training on Wednesday at 0800 when we are estimating a return to service. Give it a day or three longer than that just to be sure.

Wow, ..I cant't wait til teh upgrade goes live. If I remember correctly this new "cluster" makes EVE's hardware one of the TOP 500 supercomputers in the.
I am curious about the client side working on Dual CPU processors. I read about the patch for "balancing" with the EVE server cluster. Can anyopne elaborate a little bit on client side theoretical performance if running a Dual CPU. e.g. AMD X2.
Is it safe to assume that they client will be "more" in sync with the server since it runs 64 bit as well?
I would appreceate it if someone from CCP could elaborate on this.
yes...we are all "hardware junkie..z"

Good luck with the deployment.
Anyway, I dont think the deployment will be very smooth. First time, bad luck. Second time, getting there. Third time always lucky.

Do you have any specific plans for the old hardware? I can't imagine it'd be wasted on a forum upgrade...
My bet is a new SISI based on the old servers perhaps

Edited by: Cool dude on 15/02/2006 23:18:39 At the risk of sounding cynical here (beleive me I was never a cynic till I started playing EVE), Lets assume the worse and that the upgrade goes over schedule and that we cannot connect for 3 or 4 days. before you all start shouting at me, tell me 1 patch, upgrade that has been done over the last 3 years that has gone to schedule! Anyway assuming that this is the case are CCP still going to charge us for a full month?
If not then it is a little like paying for a full season ticket for your football club only to be told that there are some matches that you cannot go to even though you have paid in advance for them

(btw are you planning to keep the servers online for a bit longer than officially planned this time aswell just to be able to bet on how long time it takes for another "close down the servers" thread to appear? ) _____________________________________ meep meep |
