Essentially I am suggesting that the various celestial bodies in a solar system should move around the sun/planet/moon that they are orbiting. This would make an interesting extra tactical element, especially in Null Sec as gates and bases could find themselves in better or worse positions depending on the time. Also it would make the solar system map a little more of an important tool.
If the period of movement was made relatively long - minimum of hours, up to weeks or months - then it should not place an enormous burden onto the actual system.

the positions would have to be tracked. regardless of the slow speed, i imagine there would be a significant demand on the surver.
it would be cool though, and add a hilarious element to bookmarks. There are no vets in EVE. Only varying levels of Noobery. |

Suggested before, wasn't going to work then, isn't going to work now. The engine is simply not designed for this, it cannot work without redesigning code that's been there for over 10 years with everything else stacked on top in a way in which I imagine is akin to a house of cards. A lot of work for what? To make bookmarks irrelevant? At the kind of speeds planets and moons move that if you create a bookmark within a minute they'll be hundreds of kilometers away. |

Update the positions during downtime, i.e. once a day, instead of in real time.
It would also be interesting to apply it to asteroid belts.
On the downside, it would result in the creation of more bookmarks, and too many bookmarks would slow down the server.

Its not that bookmarks will slow server down, but bookmarks themselves will become obsolete. Imagine yourself redoing dock/undock bookmarks, scout spots on gates and stations, JB, pos bookmarks etc in every system you frequent every day after DT. Opinions are like assholes. Everybody's got one and everyone thinks everyone else's stinks. |

And yet, the static data contains all the necessary orbital parameters for each and every object.
As far as bookmarks not working, it just means switching from a static positioning system to one relative to fixed landmarks. |

While we are on this can we have QuickTime events to make sure you don't crash into planets because your orbital velocity was maintained after you exited warp. |

Which still breaks inline BMs, plenty of perches, insta undocks, safespots and other such things that aren't reliant on one single landmark, but two or three.
So, it's still a lot of work to do nothing but break bookmarks. |

I still think it would not be a bad thing - BM's can be redone to fit with it. I do not see it as breaking BM's - more changing the way that they work. I feel it would add another strategic element to the game. Fly Safe.-á
