What is going on?
Been running eve without problems (minimum crashes etc) since RmR.
No problems except the occasional lag spike.
Until last night that was;
playing without problem and all of a sudden; lock up, funny repeating sound coming out the headset and picture locks up.
Computer will not respond to any key presses and even task manager will not open!
After crashing 4 times within 3 hours and having to do a hard reset on my machine each time I became (understandably) very frustrated and kicked my machine.
Now the bloody thing will not even load properly, (gets to windows picture, with the loading bar in the centre of the screen) and resets itself before it even has chance to get to the main desktop.
I realise I should never have kicked my machine but it was out of sheer frustration at the permanent crashes.
What is going on and can we expect yet more problems with the software until the hardware upgrade and following patches?
Am generally very patient and even I have had enough.
Signed; A disappointed eve player/lover.

if your machine is having problems then you probably have a hardware issue, by the sound of it. could be anything really, but likely candidates are video card, hdd, ram, mobo, processor:-p rofl

How can Eve be the problem if your machine won't even load windows before crashing?
Boot using safe mode and try a system restore to the last checkpoint, maybe you just have a corrupt driver caused by the initial crash.

Ops forgot to add sommat;
Have had /heard of other players with the same kind of problems and now their computers were overloaded for resetting so often from eve.
Might be true but then I know very little as to how data can be corrupted when reset often.
Just a bit upset, and thnx for the time.

Could well be that my machine has a problems, however it seems unlikely seeing as before and after the 2nd time it crashed it still worked fine with other games.
No matter will ***** it open tonight and take a look, perhaps sommat is loose. __________________________________________

Tried that and still wouldn't work. safe mode or not it will not load anymore.
As to the fact that whether it is eve or not I have no idea, but it had no problems before eve crashed 4 times in a row, there fore it seems a little suspicious and I know that kicking it will not have helped much.

Sounds like a problemn I had before, I've solved it now though. Turns out if was the CPU overheating and all I did was to underclock the FSB in freq and voltage settings in BIOS by 6 and not had the problemn since though I am looking to get new water cooling etc and overclocking soon.

Generally if you kicked it you may have knocked something out of place!
If you know enough about computers u want to unplug everything and pull everything out and then put it all back in again. (i know you looked, but its best to completly remove and place back in again) Try that and see if you can boot up?
gd luck

Thats what I am planning on doing tonight when I get home from work.
Thanks for the info ppl, and I hope it does work again soon.
P.s. thanks for not flaming, was a nubbish thing to do. P.p.s. how do I check the core temp without going into bios?
All the best ThaMa.

If the game is hogging all the CPU power and the Ram maybe?
And Thama, i have had a similair experiance. I lost my best equipment last week because the client decided to stage a lockup during 2-3 combat sessions I am still awaiting a responds from customer services.

If your machine won't even go into the BIOS, it sounds like you have just unseated something. Especially if you're not getting a bunch of beeping when you power on.
I'd unplug and reseat all your expansions, and probaby reseat your memory too - just for good measure.
Just make sure you're earthed

Edited by: Sensor Error on 17/02/2006 09:47:14 how old is your computer? It sounds like a class 1 overheating problem tbh. In anything other than brand new (As in 4+ months) an absolutely INCREDIBLE amount of dust and crap can accumulate in the fans and heat sinks. If you are comfortable opening your case, take a look inside at the state of the heat sinks. It quite often will have formed a fairly thick layer of felt from all the crap. One of my house mates last year had similar problems, and we found that his graphics cards fan was so clogged up that the fan simply could not rotate... Anyway, it's very simple to clean the fans, but if you're not up to it, find a mate who knows what they're doing with PC's inards to do it.

Yeah I was thinking of that too but I dont think going into bios will help that much when the comp was not running for a while (or will it?).
Will definetly make sure I am earthed (have already blown a mobo like that before ).
Is there any other way to check the temp. without going into bios (like a desktop program or such). Have searched for a while for one!
Thanx again ppl.

Typicaly that's dead hard drive behavior.
But you can't rule anything out. But when I get a machine like that (I'm a PC Tech) HD is the frist thing I check when this happens.
I do it by pulling the drive and pluging in in to another box with its own OS.

I doubt EVE caused these issues. Sounds like OS failure or more likly hardware failure of some kind as posted eariler.

Have you had windows installed for more then 6 months? If so format/reinstall.
this fixes 90% of problems with computers.

your hd might have given up the ghost, or windows might have become corrupt.

Quick update. Both hd's were fried after booting it (physically not switching it on) so I have lost all 140 Gig data and 50Ç in the process.
Am now back in the game though. __________________________________________

#1 - Your processor heatsing has become dirty. Open case, and clean the heatsink/fan assembly. Clean room more often.
#2 - You kicked the computer. Do not, it will break.
#3 - You can try to salvage the situation by pressing F8 on the startup and selecting "safe mode". If the computer boots, then run scandisk or "chkdsk c: /f" from start -> run.

I reinstalled my Windows when I jumped to XP64. Before that, I did install windows.. around september 2000 or so.
In the time between the upgrade, I have changed the mobo twice, changed all of hard drives, moved from Intel based processor to AMD Opteron, moved from single processor to dual, changed GFX cards, ect..
And all that, without re-installing Windows, or without having any problems or slowdowns.
For needing to install Windows every 6 months, one must be doing something wrong..
