Edited by: Keminto Manlaa on 18/02/2006 02:04:25 I know this sounds radical, but does anyone agree with me that a scaled down version on Eve played on xBox 360 sound pretty cool or what?

Basically impossible due to the fact that it doesn't even use x86 processors. Discussed to death.
It sounds stupid to me, because is there seriously anyone who would want to play EVE that would rather use a clumsy, expensive console on a low resolution TV to play a very complex game like EVE than a computer? -- Proud member of the [23].

Pointless to even discuss, but two corrections. It's Xbox, not xBox. And 1920x1080 resolution is higher than most people's computer monitors. ------------------------------------------------------------ "We that are strong ought to bear the infirmities of the weak but not to please ourselves." - Romans 15:1 |

This one will keep popping and popping up.. The major show stopper really wouldn't be costs or how hard it's to get the thing working on Xbox. It would be a work of week from one developer to translate the client to work on that platform. A bit more to create automatic updating systems suitable for the live stuff, add in live audio comms and other things.
The audio and image quality would be just superior to what most of the pc Eve gamers have at this moment. It would run really smooth.
But guess what the showstopper would be? You really want to move the mouse pointer with that crappy game pad? Eve will not ever support direct controls (or should, or it would make any sense with the present rule calculations sets) and you really need the ability to use mouse with the GUI. You could make some tweaks but really, it would require a complete GUI re-design. Which is not viable and would perhaps change the game too much in some aspects. Sure, Xbox is able to use mice. I've never heard of anyone doing that though?
It would change the game too much or just bee to weird. TECHNICALLY it's 100% possible and not even really hard. Vice versa! Working on the current older Windows platforms is most likely harder.

Im pretty sure you could have it so that Eve on the Xbox 360 would use a mouse and keyboard. The problem imo would be weather or not it would sell and all the cost associated with publishing a title.

Of course it is technically able to use. However how many who doesn't already play Eve would want to buy a game AND a mouse AND a keyboard AND pay for subscription on that platform. Practically none. All you'd get is a few people to switch from current platform to Xbox360. But then again, they are already paying for the game anyways so there's no point.
I can't see any way the Xbox360 version would lure in good amounts of new players. Not that it's very hard to create the Xbox360 version but it doesn't justify itself.

TBH, a small group of people, unpaid by ccp, should put eve onto the X-box and get some of the profits. Then, all the farking noobs who take 30 seconds just to move their cursor over to the lock target button can get pwned by all us pc gamers. Would be heaven ---------------------------
