I have a Fujitsu Siemens Amilo A1630 Notebook and it's developed a problem.
When I'm playing a game (it happens with Eve and FarCry, the only games I have loaded).
The machine just seems to stop. The screen goes black, I know it's more than the screen as all sound stops and TS stops too. So I have to re-start the machine and sometimes have to wait a few mins before the thing will start.
It only happens when games are running as I've left it on overnight downloading and it fine in the morning.
Could it be overheating? I keep the vents clear. I have re-installed the Videocard drivers and Eve, but it makes no difference.
Any ideas?

How long since you bought it?
Are all drivers up to date (VGA drivers, chipset drivers, sound drivers etc.)? --------------------

Sounds to me like you got a bugged fan Glassback.
Its the only logical reason the things you described would happen.

<IT-Crowd> Have you turned it off and on again?? </IT-Crowd)
Maybe the Video card overheats too much for that laptop, what is it?
You could try and stick a desk fan next to it, blowing air on the keyboard..
If that's no good.. take it back.. it clearly shows the video card doesn't suit that laptop

Have you tried leaving the game running for 10 minutes or so, then rebooting the laptop, entering the BIOS and checking the CPU and hard drive temperatures?

Edited by: Asarah on 23/02/2006 21:22:15 When it starts to boot and show's you the boot diagnostics (or the manufacturers logo depending on your settings) you'll see that it says "Press F* to enter setup" or something similar. the exact key will depend on the brand of BIOS you have. Once you get into the BIOS, navigate around a bit and you'll find where it displays the temp.... JUST MAKE SURE NOT TO CHANGE ANY SETTINGS WHILE YOU ARE IN THERE! Unless you know what you're doing you can seriously fk up your comp :)

It sounds like system is overheated, check you gfx card fan and see if it runs, clean it, dust happens to gather there and cause both the cooling ribs to not suck up the cold air from the fan and can cause the fan to stop completly. Check that first m8, then do an overhaul of your drivers, simply uninstall all of them and start over.

overheating (oveurheating?) for sure, usually when I see that it is a fan on a power supply, though I dont know too much about how notebooks are put together. _______________________________________________

\o/ Great show!
On-topic.......my laptop locks up after its been running for a while too, although I don't play games on it. I put it down to over heating as it does get very hot (its old too) and is fine once it has cooled down a bit.

My girlfriend has a Toshiba Satellite that overheated constantly and just plain outright shut off. We sent it back to Toshiba and it got a new fan, thermostat, and hard drive (separate problem) and all works fine now. The new fan is LOUD and tends to go really fast at times if there's a lot of graphics on the screen, but that's about it.
My new HP laptop runs Eve perfectly... fan runs at the second to highest speed continuously while playing, but it just keeps chugging along, asking for more.
My professional opinion? Fan/thermostat. ----- I want my sig h4xx0r3d by Oveur! ...but I'll settle for any mod since Oveur can't h4x like the best of 'em... |

On most motherboards, the "delete" key can be used to enter the BIOS just as the PC has started booting up.

Ive been into the bios, but cannot find the temp thingy. Looks like it's an issue with over heating doesnt it? So guess as it's out of warranty I'll be going shopping.
Oh, well.
