Hi guys,
IGÇÖm currently running a Navy Drake and a Navy Caracal for levels 2/3 depending on what mood IGÇÖm in. For the Caracal IGÇÖm using one of the high slots for a salvager and for the Drake IGÇÖm using one for a tractor beam for use with two salvage drones. Yes, I know theyGÇÖre not the best fits but they suit my gameplay i.e. go in, shoot stuff and pick over the carcasses.
I was hoping that the MTU would allow me to get those high slots back but it seems that the thing doesnGÇÖt salvage. But that got me thinking.
IGÇÖve fitted out a Heron in the past with three tractors and three salvage drones and that was a relatively cheap and effective salvager but it involved changing ships all the time and it was a bit of a pain. (I only use one character at a time.)
So I was wondering whether I should just stick to looting and not bother salvaging at all as in the time it takes me to clear the field I could potentially be halfway through the next mission and a lot of the time all I come away with is metal scraps anyway. That said however, just a couple of tripped power circuits can add a fair bit to the haul.
So my options are:
1. Lose a high slot for tractor/salvager. 2. Fit a dedicated salvage vessel and do round trips. 3. Knock salvaging on the head and just loot.
What do you reckon?
Cheers

Once you're done with whatever you're doing, bookmark the place, then come back with a fast dedicated ship. It's faster and you don't waste HighSlots. A destroyer might be a good choice for that purpose, it's fast, got enough cargohold, and can fit multiple tractor beams / salvagers.
Though as said below, level 1/2 missions won't worth it. Finicky diplomat. Suicidal explorer. Faithful ally. |

use a mobile depot so you can refit to salvagers once the shooting is done? |

In lvl 2-3 missions, just ignore the wrecks and start a new mission. Only lvl 4 missions are worth the time. And even for those some people prefer blitzing through missions instead of cleaning up. Sovereignty and Population New Mining Mechanics |

When making the choice between pennies, and dimes, I can see how you might get confused.
Leave the pennies, continue collecting dimes. Eventually you will make whole dollars and you will be wondering why the hell you ever bothered with dimes. Poster is not to be held responsible for damages to keyboards and/or noses caused by hot beverages. |

Mobile depot. Didn't think of that. I'll give it a go and if I don't get on with it I'll dump it in the used car lot outside Jita.

one issue with the mobile depot is that tractors are 100m3 "CCP is changing policy, and has asked that we discontinue the bonus credit program after November 7th. So until then, enjoy a super-bonus of 1B Blink Credit for each 60-day GTC you buy!"

Actually I've changed my mind. I'd be insulting my lovely Navy birds by getting them to salvage. It's loot'n'go from now on. |

If you can afford the training time, get a Noctis, those ships pay for themselves many many times over. |

Deploy one of those mobile tractor thingys when you start your mission and salvage later with a destroyer. That way you won't need tractors and can fit 8 salvagers. A Noctis is cool, but not really needed. (and I hate how slow it warps) |

I know that I can almost double my income running hubs in nullsec by dropped a mobile tractor when I start the anom and then warping in a noctis alt for a quick cleanup once I've popped the last rat, but it probably isn't worth your time salvaging a lvl 2 or 3. |

WTF, OP...
Why, WHY would you use a Navy Drake (or even a Navy Caracal) for missions a frigate could do? At the very least, sell the Navy Drake, get a Noctis, and use your remaining ISK to buy cheap PvP frigates. |

Alternative: drop 5 salvage drones into the ship of your choice. Drop a mobile tractor unit. Enter mission, drop tractor unit, start blowing stuff up, deploy drones and start them salvaging. You might need to wait a couple of minutes longer to let everything wrap up, but it's a clean, no-frills way to do the salvaging without having to actually lose slots or take longer by going back and forth.
You'll lose your Hob IIs for killing frigs, but I think it works out regardless. Priano Trans-Stellar: elegant solutions for the State's needs |
