Bringing Life back to the Immortal Capsuleer Saving EVE by making problems into features.
1. Ascendency Rumors: Premise: Eventually a stargate will be constructed by players. Use of this stargate will require certain, specialized, and -and herein lies the body of my prediction- expensive implants and ship modules.
I predict these implants will be, if not exceedingly, at least moderately expensive; to the tune of at least a few hundred million a piece; set total of somewhere between 1.5 and 5 Billion.
I expect the required implant price will reflect at least 2 or 3 PLEX worth of investment; or the equivalent of 3+ months gametime. This will constitute enough of an ISK investment on the player's part to be exceedingly aware of the situations they place themselves and their clone.
I hypothesize that death on the other side of the stargate is much more of a PITA than it is over here. Being so far away where might the consciousness return upon death? Here there are only two options, one being player controlled cloning facilities in New Space, and the other returning to known space, sans implants (hopefully not SP!). Then its back to the grind or the credit card for a few more PLEX worth of implants and goodies needed to get through the stargate again; provided you know who owns it, or have the fee.
2. The Other Side So what will life be like on in the New systems? Will there be stations, rorquals, titans for cloning? What resources will be available? Will there be hostile environmental aspects? Perhaps stations can be built, but only of local (or imported?) materials?
We can get a glimpse at the possibilities and at least speculate with the Rubicon introductions. The mobile depot indicates that CCP is looking towards extended personal deployment. So far the depot supplies everything one ship could need for an expedition of at least a couple overnight deep-space grindings of your choice. Some good PVE in the right places, doing the right things (hey your depot refits you!) can net a couple hundred million ISK a night easy.
I envision a future where players deploy personal bases hidden deep within their favorite solar systems, as well as come together at secret corporation facilities for production and or storage of hulls, or well known friendly trade locations. Imagine warping to a public trade bookmark filled with personal little tents offering various goods or services.
3. Reviving(?) EVE Benevolent public trade bookmarks filled with mobile depots in rows, some with pilots floating nearby, probably jetting cans with vulgar slogans, some empty, and some of course reinforced waiting for pickup may sound slightly fuzzy, but leave us not forget that this will still be EVE. But it will be EVE on a different level. Your clone/pod/character interface to the activity of the universe will be spending its time in a body that is worth billions of ISK downstairs in k-space. Replacing it will mean something, even to jaded bittervets(?) and trillionairs (as much as anything means anything to them).
That is the vision of EVE that I see being established by the current Rubicon Progression
I'm not speculating on how this will be achieved, but it is a dream I have created from heresy and imagination that I can only hope comes true. An Ascended character in the New World could be the next step in EVE's player driven sandbox. A New Space, where death is meaningful in a way like none other. A world where you really can't fly what you can't afford to lose. A universe where your interactions with other individuals matter deeply to your security. In this galaxy only your corporation is your refuge (or your ruler). Organization is the next step the Nomad takes when he gives up a dangerous solitary life. Closed comms becomes a necessity. I predict sales of voice changers to increase.
Something about New Space will be different; I'm leaving it up to CCP and their teams of smart devs and computer people to come up with the mechanics, but I think I am beginning to see the hills beyond the Rubicon that are slowly rising from the mist/draw distance.
At least a man is free to Dream :)

My personal opinion is that the "civilized" society you are speculating will both resemble and not resemble the current state of affairs;
-Those who can afford to expand into the new space will expand their influence to the new space. There are, after all, some entities of EVE who have obtained such wealth that ISK is no longer any amount of concern for them.
-Those who cannot afford to immigrate into the new space will, of course, remain in the New Eden that we know, and will "inherit the earth." They will simply remain in the space we have available now and continue the activities they commence today.
-Those who can afford to immigrate to the new space will do so under the protection/membership of a banner which also seeks to claim the new space.
I am not sure if I am reading this correctly, and forgive me for any misinterpretation on my part - I am quite sleep deprived - but I think what you are suggesting is essentially a Nullsec 2.0, with absolutely little to no NPC influence whatsoever. A bizarre blend of Kspace and Wspace, both cut off from the world as we know it yet open to the infinite appetite of the engine of expansion.
And in the societies that do cross the boundary into New New Eden, the capsuleers will do as they always have.
Play the Game of Thrones.
.
My own speculation aside, it is a very interesting world you suggest, and one which I will joyfully explore myself the moment I can venture to the other side. |

I came up with an idea along time ago... perhaps a year or two.
the premise was that beyond WH space it could lead to new unexlopred K space.
this new K-Space would be 2-3 regions big and would be filled with what the sleepers were protecting.
You see the Sleepers are the gatekeepers to the ancient Jove enemy.
Originally there were two civilizations that survived the eve gate explosion the Jove and the "others".
The Jove were obsessed with perfection of biology and making the perfect "human" being...
The others on contrast viewed the way to perfection was threw the pursuit of technology. The melding of organics and computers. In other words cybernetics.
Sansha himself found some ancient documents leftover from a long abandoned world that contained some of their technology towhich he used to make his initial billions.
At a point the galaxy was divided and the Jove were able to hold the others back and banish them to the outer regions found past the bad lands of wormhole space also where the others home world was found.
The Sleepers are the leftover gatekeepers that are there to ensure the Jove do not break the Armistice.
The others eventually evolved to a point where they put their entire race into one giant supercomuter and have become more computer code then what they once were.
This is where the technology for tech III gear comes from.
Now the idea is that these new systems will start to show up randomly via worm holes.
the systems though as soo distant that connection to concord cannot be established.
The planets are mostly empty but they are covered with abandoned technology that is defended by enhanced sleepers designed to protect this knowledge.
when you go to these systems you have to establish a base and you can do traditional farming and PI.
but there is also the ability to colonize the new systems you can construct destructible stargates that can only be linked to the new K-space as the dead zone known as wormhole space will not allow the establishment of a stargate between the new space and the rest of new eden.
Moreover because the planets are uninhabited you have to colonize them. fill them with cities so that you can setup not only PI but have enough people to assemble your ships.
Remember each ship has crew and if you are cutt off from normal space you have no people to man the ship.
The new gear found on the others planets and space instalations lead to more tech III technology like tech III frigs and battleships.
it also leads to new implant sets.
Remember too that the pirate and regular factions are going to want some of this space so expect incursions from all relevant factions.

Basically thats what I'm looking towards. I'll leave it up to CCP to build in mechanics allowing the solo player to at least stand a chance to get to the other side of the gate and put up a depot and some sort of safe place to log off/on.
@Felicity that is one possibility, but I'd rather something that is more of a temporal (i.e. expensive?) nature, lending value to your 'body.'
@Katsumoto-san, You're thinking close to what I am, but I want to emphasize the possibility of successful solo play on the other side in addition to corporates and public markets, which is not the case in Null or even WH |

Crediting CCP with good sense does not make good sense.
They are perfectly OK with a 3 year development plan which essentially consists of flipping the bird to 80% of the game, which happen to not belong to a uberalliance, and don't even bother with nullsec, which is the only place organized and wealthy enough to undertake massive projects and defend them against their own.
Also there's the little question of "who wants to be a space owner/renter?", whose answer is "not that many people, actually".
And last but not least, it uses to make sense that the ruler rules, the idea man haves ideas and the maker man makes. Yet there at CCP, the maker woman (Senior Developer) is implementing her own idea because there's no idea man (Executive Producer) and it's unclear wether the ruler (CEO) actually knows what he wants for their main product and only source of income.
We're embarked on the Hallelujah Plan, but I am terribly skeptical about it. The Greater Fool Bar is now open for business, 24/7. Come and have drinks and fun somewhere between RL and New Eden! |

This is where they should connect 2 awsome brands and make the new space where the cylons went after they left earth. of course this is thousands of years after, so the cylons might have evolved too
Its actually 2 brands that could be combined when looking at the history of both!

I've thought about it a lot too, particularly the implants, as I've been building and selling them recently.
I expect implants will be quite a bit cheaper than you're proposing.
First, due to simple supply and demand over the next year of ghost site running. Villard wheels will drop significantly in price. The value of the more common BPCs will also drop significantly. I would expect many of the implants will cost only about 30m above the PI material cost 6-12 months from now, with higher BPC rarity priced into the gamma/epsilon/delta.
Secondly, CCP will tune the drop rates to ensure this happens. CCP will use covert research tools to ensure that the value of ghost sites overall are not devastated by the devaluation of BPCs and villard wheels. Keep in mind, only the omega is restricted to W-space, everything else is plausibly farmable (also liekly the omega is not required for gates, only used for the bonus). CCP can tune the drop rates further as we get closer to the time when the implants will be a requirement.
As for the gates themselves, its possible that in whatever new space we get, implants are just needed as a means to cross the barrier, after which implants could be replaced or the person could be cloned or jump-clone TO this new space. Once within space, ascendancy implants may not be needed. If the implants are needed at all times, it would certainly give this space its own distinct flavor. low SP alts for one would be a lot more rare. heh, maybe people wouldn't shoot each other if they weren't in their spaceships. If we could get people out of their spaceships, then they would have to interact non-violently. And they could show off their avatars. We could call it.. Walking in Stations... It would require special implants though. Descendancy implants!
