The following corporation's logos can be found on the Stratios
Chemal Tech - Gallente Federation Propel Dynamics - Caldari State Zero-G Research Firm - Caldari State Eifuy and Co. - Minmatar Republic
And I do believe I see a 5th logo on there of another non-SoE corp...
While it's no secret that the SoE have worked with all factions, in and out of empire, but it strikes me as very interesting that all of these corporations came together to make this ship.
Most especially Zero-G, because their corp description is:
Quote: A small research firm that specializes in space habitats and other life support modules for humans. In its heyday Zero-G was hailed as the great hope of the Caldari people, but the company has been in a steady decline for the last few decades.
So....why is it that a "declining" corporation was used in the development in this ship? Was there some new advancement they made recently? (I haven't been keeping up all that well with Chronicles and that fluff if this was already mentioned)
If so, could they be the key to the future development of the player-made stargates? Could all of these corps be a part of it?
Will there be even more backers and developers on the Nestor?

That's actually a nice find!
That said, what we've got to take a look at first is the reasons behind those ships being made available for capsuleer usage. The Sisters aren't too fond of them - considering them to be genocidal maniacs. With even industrial ships and barges being converted into crafty combat ships, it was obvious that no matter the purpose of the Astero and Stratios - they'd be adapted for war.
The first and most obvious thing is Ghost Sites - at a glance, this ship is perfect for the task. It can, in theory, sneak out into null/low, get the goodies and get out. And again, we have to ask "why": those sites are pirate research facilities. The only noteworthy thing (sides from the actual goodies, like Ascendancy implant set and depot BPCs) they drop some research material valued by the NPC pirates. How on earth would SoE be involved in all this?
They may just be fed up with the factions - their endless, pointless ping-pong war that's been going on for quite a while now doesn't exactly please their humanitarian side. With capsuleers being immortal pilots, the CONCORD decree may have a 'forbidden fruit' effect - and Sisters are merely throwing fuel into the fire, releasing more tools to take on the research facilities.
But SoE often go for discovering the unknown - and here's another piece of it all. Let's assume, for a while, that Sisters are into stargate building but don't know where to bite the problem. Asking around gets you into trouble - likely, the whole gate thing would be under strict CONCORD control. What would be the faction that's fond of disobeying CONCORD, and if it tries to tread into their territory - punch it in the spacehorse? Whom would you somehow rope into doing something mr. Bear B. Scared would disapprove of?
Yup, that's us. Being manipulated into doing dirty work by SoE that know more than they let up - so I'd say the next time you're at your L4 agent, smack her in the head and stuff into the cargo hold, then truck off to your lair and hang over a pool of piranhas. Or use a laser, "No Sister Alitura, I expect you to die!" style.
Cheesy spy-fi movie jokes aside, I'd say it's worth holding on to the research tools you find in Ghost Sites. They may come in handy in expansions that follow. Is it Hotdrop O'Clock yet?

I totally saw that going differently at that point....hahaha
But really, you bring up a good point. SoE DO hate us, so why give us more tools like this? I think it's cause they couldn't very well leverage the top secret stuff out of the pirate's R&D facilities on good merits alone. They're using us to crack into what they can't already do in the guise of using these ship designs themselves for deep space exploration and self defense. They knew about the ghost sites and the secret **** the pirates had and they needed it to make their plan to come to fruition.
I'd also like to point out that in an interview wait David Reid he was saying something along the lines of needing some super advanced upgrades to both our ships and our clones (probably the Ascendancy set, or an even newer unnamed set) in order to survive the new jump gates as they flung us farther and faster than ever before. This isn't just inter-cluster travel, it's intergalactic. It might be touching upon how the Sleepers got to wherever W-space is in the first place.
Because if the sleepers were able to get to this unknown cluster of stars, what's to say they weren't able to reach Earth again? Also the lack of gates within sleeper space is suspicious itself. Was the travel there done in a one way fashion to allow the Sleepers the peace to "sleep" unhindered?
What I'm ultimately getting at is that what if these new gates aren't stargates at all? What if they don't use man-made wormholes like the current ones do and instead fling us as SUPER-PLAID speeds to get us to a destination that has no receiving gate or associated wormhole exit?
After you get there THEN you can start building the receiver gate and can let everyone else pass through like normal...
****, I think I just cracked it.... The Drake is a Lie |

Sh, that's what happens when you pour Jagermeister into the fuel hold of a blops.
That said, it's worth looking into a certain older piece of content: Incursions. Sansha Kuvakei's forces, if I remember it right, travel through space by opening wormholes. I think at some point during an event, one was discovered leading to Jove Space with a station apparently taken over by Sansha. We could see some Jovian tech being put into play at some point, along with kicking the crap out of Sansha to get it. They do travel without outbound stargates and bypass cynojammers.
And actually - this is how the gates were built in the past. (Chronicle: Old Man Star) so having the process be similar here would not be surprising.
As for the upgrades well, that's why I'm saying hold on to the covert research tool things. They may be used in invention on those or something. Is it Hotdrop O'Clock yet?

Ah HA! The Sansha! That makes a lot of sense....
Sansha were the ones with the technology they needed most and were the least capable of negotiating with. How do you bargain with the leader of the robo zombies?
The SoE, in their research of the EVE Gate saw that Sansha had something they didn't and in order to get at it they sent capsuleers after it.
I think the truth lies somewhere in between both our theories. The Drake is a Lie |

- Its carapace is GǪ covered in sensors capable of letting its crew track a myriad of different organic signatures
- The crew itself is safely protected from any number of transmittable ailments from rescues and other unexpected passengers, thanks to special quarantine bays that are conveniently located near jettison able openings.
To me, it's quite obvious what role Zero G had in the development of the Astero and Stratios hulls: life sensing, life support and quarantine enforcement. These are all functions that you'd expect from space habitats intended for long term use (and long term deployment is written all through the design of this ship).
