as much of an improvement as the new mastery system is it can sometimes give a skewed idea of actual effectiveness in the ship. I.e. everything but sensor compensation to lvl 5 but your mastery is only 3. I suggect an additional rating. combat effectiveness or some such, that uses a points based percentage system weighted to the combat importance of skills. probably a daft idea but its late and I'm bored |

If your sensor compensation isn't at 5, I'd say you aren't very effective as a pilot at not being jammed out.
Working as intended. |

Mastery for barges is a joke for what needs a barge Elektronik Warfare I have a max yield, tank, drone damage and my mastery is only I because i dont have Elektronik warfare
i think in many masterys for ships are skills that only helps in pvp and arent needet for pve and many many many players dont like pvp i think 2 types of mastery one for pvp one for pve isnt that hard to make
lets say i can fly my domininx blind in a lvl 4 Mission but i dont have a single skill for jamming etc pp

Ewar in a barge may allow you to jam out an interceptor scramming you before his friends in their slow ships get there to blow your skiff up and escape. That's what use Ewar in a Barge is. So... it's a sensible requirement. Additionally you may also be using the Barge as a bait ship, not a mining vessel in which case yet again, Ewar is a good thing.
Additionally since CCP are trying to make PvE more like PvP, separate Mastery ratings for them is a terrible idea, since all that says is the same thing once they have achieved their actual aim.
Remember any time you undock you may have PvP visited upon you. |

Its there for PVP effectiveness, about everything a ship is and EVERYTHING that touch's your ship. Not there for your incursion cash printing or nullsec carrier ratting. |

Introduce custom certificates, problem solved. Besides that I also hold the opinion that CCP should make a PC version for Dust 514. |

The fact is that mastering a ship requires mastering every area of skills; that's a simple truth. It therefore requires many skill points that a player will barely use. Not at Mastery 5 but already at 2 or 3. Deliberately selecting skills to train because they fit in the Mastery scheme is a real waste of SP that would have a much more powerful use elsewhere; another simple truth no?
Which means it is not a good system for guiding a player's skill plan, and this is supposed to be its purpose remember. It also means that any Mastery level is no indication whatsoever of how effective the pilot is at doing anything in a ship, which is its secondary purpose I imagine, unless that "anything" is actually "everything".
So the Mastery system is not an effective/useful skills guide, simply because it is only concerned with mastering *everything* a ship could do, which is not how players play.
To be a good guide it needs to be about roles, or roles-per ship, because that's how players work in the game. |

I think mastery reflects as intended. If you have not trained a 3D skill but have all the 20D+ skills then you are not L5 master of that ship. Just train the skills you have left out pre-isis. Anyone who train hence forth will not have any stragglers like we do from pre-isis. Though a system for custom certificates would not be bad, in addition to the normal certificates. Then certain corps require Corpnamecertificate A and B for that role, and C for another role, etc, with Z as entrance requirement, etc. Oh, and you would not have to mess with APIs, just inject the Corpnamecertificate and then the system sees if you have all the skills for that certificate, then you can make that certificate public on your application to show you have the required skills. |

Yes but the Mastery V concept you talk about is the problem at Mastery III.
Training any "straggler" at all just because it's a straggler is a waste, because the Mastery levels are too all-encompassing.
Such a detailed system, for such little use.

Mastery for pve 4 for pvp 0 or 1 Another piece of stupid regarding barges: Level 5 mastery on a Hulk does not require exhumers or mining barge to be trained at all. Which means that someone who can't even sit in the ship can have level 5 mastery. |
