Can anyone explain to me how this remote buy/sell order stuff works?
If I have the skills to buy/sell up to (for example) 5 jumps away.
Can I for example, place a remote buy order in one system and then a remote sell order in another (for the goods bought via remote buy) to shunt the goods around that way?
Or even as simple as buy a commodity in the sytem I am docked in, place a sell order in a system 3-5 jumps away - will the goods need moved by me?
I guess what I'm saying is is it possible to play the regional market without a hauler of some sort?
Does it work for NPC trades too? Or "basic" sales i.e. not orders?
I sure hope this made sense :)

All your questions are answered in The Tricky Trade of Trading, or "Procurement... WTF??". Enjoy. :)
You'll always need to move goods yourself, or have others move them for you by you placing courier missions. The market cannot move items. -- Lil Miner |

Got to admit that I have read the following many times and still don't understand it
"DONÆT GETÆEM MIXED UP: ôBid rangeö (THANKS Khandro Shimaresis for the correction!!) is for placing the remote purchase order, and it gives you the max distance between the system you are in, and the system you are placing the purchase order (and you increase it with ôProcurementö). The range of your remote purchase order is your ôRemote bid rangeö (and you increase it with ôVisibilityö)"

Is this really of much practical value, by the time you take into account the cost and time of the skills involved? Any orders that aren't filled pretty quick are going to change anyway, and then you're stuck with having to redo it. Why not just watch the market and grab it when it pops up to your liking?

No.
P.S. The "procurement wtf" guide is virtually incomprehensible to me (and evidently to many others) since you have to spend 90% of your time translating it from some absurd "roleplay" dialect into proper English.

You know, you can just modify your order when you need to change it...

A usage for this skill can be that lvl 5 gives you region wide access wich means you can set up buy orders were you see that its generally cheaper stuff. And then you can run around in the borders between alot of regions and set up buy orders anywere in those regions. And then you can put up couriers to get those stuff to the other regions were you (remotely) set up sell orders for it and then you have a profit. Note:There is a difference between setting up orders and just instantly purchasing.(wich i dont think you need a skill for to do regionwide)

And it shows, given your "No". It's completely possible to play the market without ever having to leave a station. - Use the Retail skill to increase the number of orders you can have open - Use the Procurement skill to set up buy orders within a certain range - Use the Marketing skill to sell those items which have filled your buy orders, remotely - Use the Daytrading skill to change your orders if needed
There's a lot more to it (Margin trading, wholesale etc), but these are the basics. I do this a bit, and it's making a nice bit of cash. I do collect most of the stuff I buy though, and sell it from a central point, since it usually increases your chance of making a sale.
