Right - I joint the game a few days ago, after two odd years of learning from the wiki. My dream of getting Sacrilidges, Damnations, and Vengences was immeadatly shattered.... due to long traning times for tech 2 ships - and that I don't have the support skills trained yet.
So - I like close range missles, armour, and cruisers and larger...
I'm now looking at getting the Maller and Prophercy in the short term: Maller: Meh.... No Armour tanked cruisers in the game so using lasers as my next favirote (I don't consider Minimatar hulls to be spaceships, so will not 'fly' them)
Propercy: I do like the way that the drones bumble around the skys like a bunch of enthuisastic puppies, like all the Amarr, it is armour tanked, and is the only tech 1 (Fast traning) armour boat with missle hardpoints (even if no missle bonuses).
Ultimatly I'd after these two set up with some support skills, tanking and drones/missle skills to lvl 4, and then get the Sacrilidge - but then I'm not sure where to go from there..
I'd like to move to a Topredo ship, but I'm not keen on traning shields (I'll probably have to in the end, as I am not flying the Typhoon, unless I get really desperate... I'd probably move to a Navy Raven.... but not certain..
So can anyone offer any advice or councilling for my vauge outline, please? |

Yes.
Take baby steps...
Sit...crawl...stand up...walk...and THEN run.
Start with frigates and work your way up. And also, don't be surprised if your "goals" will change with time. And eventually, as EVE is more a long term commitment game, you will get to your T2 ships you wanted to fly.
As for that, in what purpose are you going to fly these ships.
PvP and PvE require a whole different set of ships/fits. Some ships are good at PvP but not that good for PvE. Or the other way around.
Some are good at both, but the fits are 200% different.

Thanks for that.... I agree now with baby steps.... I had a good plan to get in a sacrilidge in 4 months... I didn't consider what I'd do in the meanwhile... I'd be using them for combat cosmic annomilies ultimatly, but doing missions for Khanid Navy in the meanwhile with the tech I's. |

As to give you an example of how goals change:
When I initially joined the New Eden universe. My goals were like any other game I played, become a major industrialist. So I set out and started as a miner/producer.
The with time I got more and more interested in combat and when I joined nullsec, my new goal was to get into capitals. Once there I realized they werent as much fun as I expected.
So 3 years from my start, I'm here. Doing mainly small ship PvP (the biggest ships I like to fly are cruisers with a very occasional BC in the mix) on 2 alts. My main (this character) usually stays docked to help new players (my main occupation in EVE now a days).
So in a matter of 3 years, I've changed my goals 3 or 4 times... Want to have some chat in game? Need help to get into the game as a new player? Just join my channel: Crazy Dutch Guy |

Missile ship line-up, with race labels:
- Frigate --- T1: Condor (C), Kestrel (C), Breacher (M); Navy Faction: Caldari Navy Hookbill (C); T2: Malediction (A), Vengeance (A), Hawk (C), Crow (C), Bombers (All races); Pirate Faction: Worm (Gurista, C+G) (drones+missiles)
- Destroyer --- T1: Corax (C), Talwar (M); Navy Faction: N/A; T2: Heretic (A), Flycatcher (C) Pirate Faction: N/A
- Cruiser --- T1: Caracal (C), Bellicose (M); Navy Faction: Caracal Navy Issue (C), Osprey Navy Issue (C), Scythe Fleet Issue (M) (projectile+missile); T2: Sacrilege (A), Cerberus (C), Rook (C) (ECM+missiles), Lachesis (G) (damps+hybrids+missiles) (may change), Huginn (M) (webs+projectiles+missiles) Pirate Faction: Gila (Gurista, C+G) (drones+missiles)
- Battlecruiser --- T1: Drake (C), Cyclone (M), Prophecy (A) (can use missiles, but not specialized); Navy Faction: Drake Navy Issue (C); T2: Damnation (A), Nighthawk (C), Claymore (M) Pirate Faction: N/A
- Battleship --- T1: Raven (C), Typhoon (M), Armageddon (A) (can use missiles, but not specialized); Navy Faction: Raven Navy Issue (C), Scorpion Navy Issue (C), Typhoon Fleet Issue (M) (projectile+missile); T2: Golem (C), Widow (C), Pirate Faction: Rattlesnake (Gurista, C+G) (drones+missiles)
Just ignore anything followed by (M) if you want to avoid Minmatar.
You are correct that you can't just jump into heavy armor missile ships, mainly due to their status as T2 vessels. Even if you were to buy a character it would still be counter-recommended because they are not simple to fly, particularly if you have close to zero experience otherwise. That tends to make shiny ships turn into expensive losses pretty quickly.
If you are intent on going on a full-missile focus, I recommend you start on a Caldari/shield missile plan, and cross-train Amarr/armor once you feel ready to. There are good analogues for what you'll be flying anyway, which do allow you to segue into the ships you want to fly. For example:
- A Malediction flies similarly to a Condor or Crow. It is a bit poorer at applying damage, but is harder to hit and tankier than either one. It's also usually somewhat slower (though for an interceptor that's not saying much).
- A Vengeance flies similarly to a Hawk, just slower and with a bias more towards tons of hit points rather than a constantly refilling HP bar.
- etc
Anyway I've rambled enough. tl;dr: there is always a way, but compromise may be necessary.

I picked up a Dragoon just now. Between the launcher hardpoints and drones it should keep me happy for a while. |

My advice if you are amarr, train for a nice Punisher, than train for a cool amarr Battlecruiser. Most important are the gunnery and cap skills. T2 lasers are the first priority if I were you. |

Regardless what you consider them to be, Winmatar ships are generally very good.
That said i fly Amarr too. I'd suggest lasers if ur gonna fly Amarr but it's only a game :) BUDDY TRIALS - 21days + ISK bonus + Starting Assistance : https://secure.eveonline.com/trial/?invc=77facad8-d941-45ad-95bc-c1ec90919b6b&action=buddy Feel free to contact me with questions :) |

Hmm, you want a Cruiser or bigger with missiles, but no Minmatar and no Shield tank ... that really doesn't leave much.
You might want to look into a Gnosis - I usually wouldn't recommend it, but with such a restrictive selection it might suite you. Otherwise there are some Amarr T2 ships (Sacrilege and Damnation) and finally a HAM Legion.
And that's pretty much it, unless you want to armor tank a Raven (which isn't totally impossible, but suboptimal). |

It'll increase your tank, but it's still not a recommended setup due to caldari ships favoring shield tanking (and lack of armor points to begin with) and that most lows on caldari ships are meant for a ballistic control unit and a damage control unit, along with other mods. If you have played a few days, my advice is to just try a variety of different ships.
I never intended to get into drones, but early on I tried the Vexor and found (surprisingly to me) that I was a huge fan of the ship. As a result I later trained into the Dominix and Ishtar, realised I didn't like the Dominix much, and so specialised further in the Ishtar.
Had I not experimented early on, and gone on my initial hunch of 'logistics ships sound cool', I probably would not have found the Ishtar at all. Now that I can fly logistics ships, I know that I don't like them nearly as much as I thought I would - had I dedicated ~80 training days in my first six months to rushing into a logisitics ship I may not have remained with the game. https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=238931 - an idea for a new form of hybrid PVE/PVP content. There is one issue I would like to point out. Don't just choose one ship or even one style of ship. They are merely tools. There is nothing wrong with shield taking, drones, certainly not projectiles. Be prepared to use whatever it takes to get the job done.
Also, the wiki is out of date every six months. |
