Hi EVE citizens!
An agent is requesting some ammount of ectoplasm which is illegal and I can not find it on the market or place a buying order.
What are the "other" ways of getting this stuff?
I appreciate all tips!
Thanks in advance, Trillian |

That it's illegal in your region, does not mean it can't be bought in other regions You can use the item database to see where it's illegal, and who sells it.
A word of warning though, if your agent is in high sec space (0.5 or more security rating), and the stuff is illegal in your region, you'll likely encounter customs officers, who'll likely shoot your ship to pieces. Better stay away from such agent offers

Best tip is to simply ignore any offer that involves anything illegal.

Edited by: Lebowske on 03/03/2006 12:59:50 Aye - very often those offers request way too high numbers of items, almsot impossible to find anywhere near you. If you are lucky enough to find it in high enough quantities - it most likely will be overpriced compared to your own return on the deal. You'll also have a problem getting it to your agent.
You can try to smuggle" it using a normal ship - but there's a 99% chance that you'll get stopped along the route and fined + loosing all the items. You can then try use a covert op - some have higher success with it. But that requires alot of training skills - and somewhat expensive equipment. (I assume you're not too experienced based on the lack of avatar).
In the end - the value you get from all this work is almost surley not worth it. Too bad - but it's to wait for a better offer.

I am probably being a bit slow, but I noticed this week that customs are not at all the gates. Is their location fixed? So if I find a customs-free gate I can rely on it being customs-free tomorrow/next week?
If so then it is a case of finding a route through customs-free gates from the source to the destination, which should be doable at low risk.
If the customs dudes move about from gate to gate, then a scout would be needed ahead of the cargo to make sure the next gate is clear, but should not be too hard to organise IF the reward was worth it

Edited by: Lebowske on 03/03/2006 13:24:41 You can find gates without customs - but there's no guarantee that you'll find a whole route. A good option is to go losec if the route allows it. And if you aproach a gate with Customs - there's about 50-60% chance that they'll scan you (numbers may vary from people to people reporting this). You may also create a character with the skill that gives you better chance of success when smugling - can't remember it's name though.
But only you can decide if it's worth the risk - most offer's arent - but those who have chosen this as a profession - taking smuggling contracts, can make a living out of it.
EDIT: spelling 4tw

And if, like me, you accidentally picked up some illegal goods from a mission, realised mid-warp to the gate and tried to jettison as soon as you left warp, they'll spot that too.
Thank god they let me off with a slap round the wrist.

That reminds me of the bug which you had 1-3 seconds to answer them - you weren't able to even read what message you got - before they ganked you. Some people even reported that they had answered "yes" and accepted the terms - and still got ganked.
Obviously that bug is gone now ... good to hear. ;)

You could also join the in-game channel "Narcotics", where you may find someone able to sell you the needed goods right at your station.

Edited by: Rivoc Derubazi on 03/03/2006 17:32:51 That bug is not gone. I had accidentally picked up some illegal stuff on a mission last week, warped to a gate, and was immediately destroyed in my Cyclone. If that wasn't bead enough, I went back to get my can after 15 minutes and got blown up again. Was having a bad night. Still waiting for GM response.
By the way, if I update a petition, does it reset where I am in line?

It appears automatically a while after you start posting. There are some problems right now with updating them, see the sticky in the "Known Issues and Workarounds" forum.
