moved from General Discussion - Sherkaner This is such great news for all you "Chuckomaniacs" out there I couldn't let this gem of information languish in "Out of Pod Experience".
http://www.worldcombatleague.com/worldcombatleague.asp
Chuck Norris has become such an integral part of EVE, I just couldn't let this opportunity pass away.
Chuck Norris' WCL (WorldCombatLeague) arrived in Vegas last night. Forget the UFC and Pride, Chuck has attracted a pool of talent to join him in his MMA venture.
And how does this relate to EVE? Well in response to such a neophyte question, I would reply that anything having to do with Chuck Norris + Combat = Useful for PVP

Check out the vid where they fight. It look pretty violent. I like it. I also liked the match when Musashi beat the snot out of Bob Sapp. Sapp sucks.

I was going to make some whiny comment about how it's all stand-up, then I remembered how ******* boring UFC is when you have 2 guys attempt to out-cuddle each other on the floor.
Please do not discuss actions taken by forum moderators, even in your sig. *snip*red snip brought to you by Kaemonn. PS, you're hot.--Jorauk |

UFC now and UFC when it first started are two different things, the original UFC was a literal blood sport where people were sent to the hospital after fights now I see more violence when I watch the Gummibear cartoon serise.

When the ufc first started it was filled with drunken rednecks and criminal idiots out to make a quick buck by getting their heads bashed in. Thank god MMA has evolved into a REAL sport since then.
Seriously, if you want violence then go buy bumfights or some other idiotic piece of garbage made for the ADD-squad and leave MMA to the real fans. Thank you. ______________

guess you are prehaps one of the majority of ppl that actually dont know what is happening on the floor and cant detatch from your own desire to be entertained and view in terms of combat and fighting. every martial artist would at some piont wonder, "in a live test (street or life death situation) would i triumph/live or would i die?"
then try see that ufc is just as much about getting as near as one can to that test without comitting acts of dishonour, as it is about your/outsider entertainment. personally i think the only way to see which is "better" is to have the best guys from each fight a fight under both rules.
what is glaringly apparent tho and i agree in a sense with your statement in this sense is , that when rules are imposed, usually, there is play around the rules to try gain an advantage
: example a guy who know he cant stand up with another guy so goes totally for ground play, whereas the stand up guy in no rules situation could probs defeat him on ground aswell if there were no rules.

I am fully aware of what is happening on the floor - I have been watching MMA for years and know what the BJJ guy is trying to achieve by making the stand-up guy fight on the mat. What I take objection to are the "hold and wait" (grab hold of the guy trying to mount you, keep him still for 60 seconds and then get stood back up. wash, rinse and repeat) tactics employed by certain fighters. It is often used as a defensive measure by stand-up fighters to stop people like Tito Ortiz pounding the **** out of you - this I can accept as it's not their natural fighting style. However, seeing 2 experienced ground fighters basically cuddle each other for 15 minutes as neither one is either capable or willing to attempt to pass guard, go for a submission or begin punding from half or even full guard is what annoys me. If I'm paying to see action, I want to see action. You'll notice that the most memorable fights in MMA are usually the pure stand-up slug-fests or ground-fights where both guys are going from submission to counter to submission to counter to full mount to back to stand up to take down, etc.

UFC is 2 guys trying to win a fight within the confins of a 30ft wide steel cage while adhering to strict rules. It is about as far from real life as you can get. Much like boxing isn't a true test of how someone would hold-up in a real fight, or how the 100 metre sprint isn't a true indication of how quick an athlete will make it up 2 flights of stairs and across the platform to catch his train before he leaves. They are all sports. Sport does not equal real life circumstances.
And finally like I said, I am paying to be entertained. Stand-up is far more entertaining than ground fights, so that's what I want to see. Knock outs 4tw __________________________________________________

I agree to an extent. Its up to the fighters to make the fight entertaining as that is what they are payed for. However, i strongly disagree that stand up is more entertaining. If what you really want is stand up then i suggest you watch muay thai from thailand or K1 or superleague from holland. And i dont mean that in any disrespectful way, its just that if you have been viewing mma for years like you claim then you should know that the vast majority of all MMA fights end up on the ground sooner or later and most stay that way.
If the UFC had pride rules where the judge stands passive fighters up in a jiffy and hands out yellow cards (10% off the paycheck and 1 point off the scorecards) for inactiveness, we wouldnt see as much lay and prey.
The reason why you see blanket-tactics is simply because MMA fighters arent paid well enough. The top fighters in the UFC barely get a 100k for their title fights, and the smaller guys get anything from 2.5k to 30k depending on their appeal to the audience, and the majority of them arent invited back to the event in question. MMA is a dangerous sport and personally, i dont think its worth those measly ammounts. ______________

I do :). tbh I only really watch UFC if it's a) a novelty fight (e.g. tank abbot losing his 100th comeback fight) or b) involves 2 guys who stand up.
edit: I never realised the UFC fighters got paid so little. I would be surprised if it covered some of the lower-tier fighter's medical bills!

Why is it the "world combat league" when it's "made up of professional martial arts fighters on teams representing American cities."?
