Hi
I'm a fairly new player to EVE online. I've played mmo's before this one and have an idea of what it is. I have seen people use the phrases armor tanking and sheild tanking. I know how sheild tanking works in EVE, but could someone explain how to armor tank?
Much appriciated Kerco Cosa

armor and shield tanking are basicly the same, but uses different gear and slots. Shield tankers mainly use med slots while I belive armor tankers use both med and low slots! I know very little of armor tanking, maybe another person can answere more about it but I'll try..
There are 2 ways to tank, either go for max resistance or go for max HP
I personally prefere max resistance. This because I've seen max HP tankers go down in flames ages b4 the max res tankers! It's ( in my opinion) better to remove 70-80% of the damage and tank the rest with a booster than taking 80% dmg and try to tank that long...

Surely armor tanking is more expensive than sheild tanking?
As you have to keep repairing the armor?

no it is not. Thats the thing with armor tanking. you use armor repairs instead of like in shield tanking shield boosters! And the shield regenerates itselfe in a given time or when you dock in a station.

Armour Tanking as I know it is using things like Power Relays which gives your sheild a longer recharge time but mean you can have you Armour Repairer on for longer.
there is also structure tanking but the less said about that the better.

Important differences to note between armour and shield tanking;
Shield boosters boost as soon as you engage the module, giving you an instant boost, whilst repairers take time - it will boost at the end of the cycle time.
However, shield boosters are more capacitor intensive than armour repairers but they boost more per second.
Both forms of "tanking" require resistance, which can be gained by;
Armour;
Armour Hardeners, Energized Plates, Resistance Plates.
Shields;
Shield Hardeners, Shield Resistance Amplifiers
Or Damage Controls which apply to both. Note that Shield Hardeners, Armour Hardeners and Damage Controls require activation, they will not give any resistance if they are not activated. Other things you may want to take into account are hitpoint increasing modules such as armour plates or shield extenders.
