So, I was in a shuttle and I heard some explosions so I spun the camera around to see what happened. Just as I did, the game freezes. So, I sit and wait, and wait and wait.
Finally nothing. Then I discover not only has the EVE executable been renamed to 'exefile' but I log in and find that a manslayer managed to kill me and I lost my Empire Control skillbook.
I'm not happy. Is this lag? Or is this my computer?
Note that there are no anti-virus programs running. _________

I've had several brief (3-10 second) pauses where the entire PC freezes up in the last day, normally a very stable PC too.

Still around patch week. Petition politely and pray. I also get "earthquakes" effect quite often today. My view screen shook like mad for a few seconds interval. ----------------

I guess so. I'm not sure if it matters which route you use.
Oh no. It happened twice.

Yes, out of game. Under reimbursement. You will only get back things that are destroyed though.

Edited by: Lebowske on 07/03/2006 00:03:32 Probably clientside-lag due to the effects. You've turned'em off right? SHIFT-CTRL-ALT-T, SHIFT-CTRL-ALT-E. Never fly with them on.
You probably didnt get killed as a result of the lag - but your client lagging as a result of the explosion, you being blown apart.
EDIT: And uhm, was this the right forum for the OP? ;)

This just happened to a corpmate too, he couldn't click on anything and f-keys didn't respond, ended with him losing his t2 destroyer.

Perhaps it's a virus. Format your hard drive just to be sure :-)

I used to get problems like that all the time (by all the time I mean almost every jump, sometimes after warping, undocking... anything major) the client would sudenly seize up, and the Hard disk light would go mad and the machine would go mad, like it was under intense pressure. During these periods the Task Manager showed the EVE process as usin 0% of teh CPU time, sometime jumpign up to 2-3 for a second at a time. The System IDle Process in Win XP takes over using 98% ish of the CPU. Its very odd, I thought these spikes were due to my old and decrepid pc, but since teh new servers there has been a drastic reduction in them... I hardy lag at all now. I never found an explanation to it all... so very confusing these computers are. -----

Edited by: D''onryu Shoqui on 07/03/2006 00:34:50 the game has froze on me about 4 times in the last week and its always been when some npc has been shooting at me ,the whole game just freezes ,its not because the game has ran out of ram everytime i checked in taskmanager less than half my comps ram was beeing used and commit charge peak has been nowhere near the ammount of ram i have installed. my gpu has 256mb of ram so i seriously doubt its run out of ram ,once when i had the freeze it was right after launching the game and logging in ,i warped to a mission bookmark and the game just froze.
i think its just some very rare bug.
btw everytime its happened its always been when im rotating the camera.

That is memory swaping. The clients been worked on here and there. I've had much less problems with this as of late. It was way bad right after RMR.

This has just started happening to me as well. Game ran fine before this. It seems to happen more often when the camera is rotated.
My computer is free of virii and spyware, so that's not it.

I recently lost my ship during a mission. Though my case may be different it seems related to this topic.
Using the warp gate to start Human Cattle 5 my DSL connection started to fail and the game seemed to stop responding. At this point I believe a mistake is made, waiting to see what will happen. From past experience anytime your connection is lost with the EVE server your ship initiates warp to some safe spot on its own. By not closing the froze up client quickly you have the chance that the connection is still considered active by the EVE server. Your ship stays and gets blown up.

Same happened to me, warped to a gate, and poc, nothing responded (I could still move around my camera). I closed the client in max 10 seconds but I still got shot down, most likely my character still being stuck in the space _________________________________

I have the same problem appearing since 1 day before the last patch, everytime I get near a jumpgate the game freezes. |

I have had this problem before and kept updating computer ect.... Now I have a great video card larger powerpack more ram, speed and about 750.00 invested. My problem seemed to be gone until after this patch. I use to beable to run 3 accounts on the system now I cant keep one up. Any solutions on what I can do. Very frustrating. - - - Lack of planning on your part doesn't constitute an emergency on my part |

Had the problem several times too. Not managed to work out for definate what caused it, but as soon as is happens I shut the client down.
If I can't shut the client, I log in on another launch of the client and this unlogs the first one.

It's the server. I have a very top of the line comp and this still happens to me sometimes.
There's no point petitioning because the only thing you'll get is the we hope you recover from your loss auto response.

Edited by: Emperor D''Hoffryn on 07/03/2006 08:10:20 not sure its that simple.
Im playing on a 1.6Ghz pentium M laptop with 1 gig o ram and a 32mb mobility radeon 7500...
and this have never happened to me. So comp performance has nothing to do with it. mem leak would seem to hit everyone.. me more so with my crappy slow laptop HD.
First things i would check would be:
turn off sound update all drivers (motherboard chipset drivers being most important) + directx turn off all effects
and see what happens.

ccp might have brought us another effect that just freezes some clients. There have been multiple times throughout the starcluster's history where a certain gun, missile or even Mordu's MWD effects froze clients for a while. This happens usually on very exotic hardware like ATi's 9800, Soundblaster life or Audigy cards. --*=*=*-- Megadon CCP wanted a well known artist and celebrity to test the new font so it's approval would be well known. They got Ray |
