Computer blew up today an I need to redownload the client. 40k/s for the download is not good enough. If its going to take 5 hours to download the program every time its going to drive new players away. Perhaps you should distribute the download as a torrent or something.
Also ****ed that there is no way to switch my skills without being logged into the game. Useful such as for when im spending hours downloading the client for the gatem.

Sorry to hear you are having problems Celestra, it's a shame it's happening now shortly after the patch.
I have downloaded eve from torrents' before, have a look, someone else may have made it available.
It's one of those soon(tm) moments.

the website is fine your connection is not & not the other way around (i was downloading at 1.1 to 1.4 mb from the website yesterday & just launching a download of the client now to test.... 1.24Mb/sec a bit over 7min to download the website definately is more than fine )

I love how people always say it's not their fault without making sure if it is their fault beforehand.

Well it seems there is something up with the connection between me and the website. Since I am downloading a really old version from fileplanet and another site both at about 200K/s at the same time.
I just love it when people just assume it is the client computer without checking beforehand.
Anyhow, I did a quick search for a .torrent but diddnt find any active ones.

So when I max out my 8 megabit connection off the EVE site, its magic?
Sounds like your connection sucks.

If you're implying that you download at 8 megabits per second off the EVE site, then, unless you're sitting right beside the server I'm gonna have to call BS =/

Actually, correction: the server seems to be going massively slow atm. Last time I tested I maxed it out... but now I'm getting just what the OP is getting, 40kbs...

I'm talking 800-900KB/s.
Any good server will easily max it out.
Actually, remembering better, the last time I tested EVE's download speed wasn't on my home comp but was on a college LAN, where I got about 800 KB/s.
Getting back on topic: CCP, fix it

Ah right ok, I misinterpreted what you were saying ;D
I tend to get around the same based on the server.

well you're the one who whined about something specific (the website) being slow wich was wrong so the issue definately is your connection * (* to the website wich could be anything beetween you 2 p nice diplomatic word twisting) the website itself is working just fine even if 2 of you are having problems (just re tested 1.4MB/sec here & yes i mean a big B as in bytes not bit so the website definately is not the bottleneck)
maybe a backbone of your country went down or a bad router on way

I believe the reason why it is so slow is because there are alot of people testing their dl speed. --------------------------------------------- Make Doomsday weapons available for frigates! |

i believe not since both time i tested i did so for only < 10-15 sec & there was over 1.4MB/sec of speed left (since i used it) hence as soon as those 15seconds passed there'd have to be 10 to 20 regular DSL people starting to download right after to leech that much & keep the server slow all of wich somehow decided they didn't want the client afterall by the time i re tested p 0 doubts there either his isp is having trouble or there is a router/backbone with troubles on the way

It should be mirrored somewhere. Try This Mirror. It works fast for me. (Maybe because I'm in Iceland, but I don't know.)

Thanks Dedekind, that mirror was quite a bit faster. As usual the worthless fileplanet download died 95% through, and was unable to resume due to their crap queueing scheme. I feel sorry for all the suckers that pay for that thing.
The mirror link will complete in about an hour, which is still about 3 hours faster then the link from the site which started nearly 2 hours ago.

It can be a bit slow, i dl a movie of this server and it went @ 10kbps max. Could download anything else from anywhere else @ 200kb/s at the same time so its definately the server. I think i got the last patch @ 100-150ish though so its not 'always' slow.

click download, go watch one of the extended lotr movies, come back, see only 1 hours to go. go eat dinner or something, come back, install.
Or download while you sleep or are at work maybe.

Edited by: spurious signal on 07/03/2006 09:08:59 Currently downloading at 4mbit/sec (edit: sustained and consistent) from the EVE website, on a UK university connection.
If you're finding you're capped at 40k/sec (1% of what I'm getting) then the most likely cause is a peering problem between your ISPs and the CCP servers.
This isn't something that CCP are directly responsible for, but they can put some pressure on the ISPs that they have peering arrangements with. I'd suggest doing some traceroutes to the EVE website and seeing if you can find out where the problem is. In Europe Telia are VERY often the root of such problems, time and again I've seen Telia routers dying or underperforming and being left in that state for weeks, but this is just a guess
