What utter utter rubbish.
Bad journalism from an awful magazine... if they have indeed printed this then I will be emailing to request some sort of printed apology - others should too.
Grrrrr....

These forecasts are come and go, started shortly after the beginning of eve. I remember times when not more than 7k useres were on at peak-times.
Eve is growing atm...

Dude you sure you read that correctly cos Pcgamer and Pcformat both up Eve all the time. Some of their journos and editors play the game religiously iirc from past publications. its one of the reasons i took out a sub cos they upped it almost ever issue to some extent.
who knows. :)

The OT didn't read the article right. The box Eve was in ws about older games still kicking. ----- David - Proud to be saving the universe since 1984 Wrangler - Saving the drunks by drinking their beer since 1992 Saving the breweries by sending their produce to Wrangler since 2005 - Imaran |

I would say that the magazine will close down decades before EVE.
EVE got too much posibillities yet, compared to the other stupid games like WoW. Not to mention this game won 4 awards this year at mmorpg.com, one of them where for best graphic if I recall...
That a magazine can speak such words shows us clearly how dubious that magazine is. Its definitely not what you can call serious gamer magazine.
EVE IS HERE TO STAY. SO AM I.

Eve is actually moving up too fast, so no its not going to die... if Eve was going to die it would have been in early 04, back when peak user record was what 6kish?
now all you damn people (~24k) are here just lagging everything!
Also remember originally there was suppose to be 5 Tech lvls.... whether CCP is sticking to that goal I have no clue, but after 3years we're still on 2....
CCP has also left PLENTY of content in eve for us to explore, when they're ready to release it(jove space + that other region)
Think about this... We are just now approaching all the features in-game that we're suppose to be originally released(see box). In those terms, eve is still brand new and hasn't even moved forward towards its new goals yet....
So yeah EVE is going to be around for quite a long time, and though we may come and go I generally see the populace of this place continuing to grow!(thank god for longer and longer skills to train while on vacations)

I think EVE has much longer legs than most of the larger commercial MMO's out there (WOW, SWG, EQII etc.) as their cost structure is kept under strict control (i.e. no commercial software needs to be shipped, marketing is relatively low-key). By keeping their costs in line, I'd say they are probably more profitable (as a percantage of gross income) than blizzard's ugly beast that people have to stand in line to lag in.
Controlling costs is the key. That, and positive word of mouth. Eve has both in spades.

Edited by: Varath D''Hul on 09/03/2006 00:12:21 Them Devs are way too addicted to EVE themselves, they have an urgent need to develop the game more and more cause they haven't even come to scratching EVE's potential according to them.
Point 2:
As long as EA-Games is being kept outside the door there ain't a single speck in the skies. Start to worry when ya read from official sources that EA starts to participate in EVE.
Point 3:
If they consider closing EVE we will camp Iceland till they decide to reconsider. We will all use rowingboats with launchers and pulsecannons painted on their sides and we will web any ship that wants to dock at Iceland. No way they wanna let that happen.
So ergo, EVE has just barely taken it's first steps in the long long future still ahead of it.

hmmm yes, Iceland would be a very easy country to blockade, after everyone knows Eve is the primary income of foreign money next to fishing for iceland.*

I think EVE will die because most of it's players are (judging from the knee-jerk responses in this thread) illiterate. As has been stated, the OP read the mag wrong. It didn't say that EVE would be dying any time soon. _______________________

Eve will not go away, so long as it has such a devoted Dev staff, and infact I was commenting the other day to a friend of mine that I was surprised by the exponential growth. The fact that Eve has defied the typical plateau and die pattern is evidence enough that itl hang around for a while. I would expect that growth will continue in a positive trend for quite some time, due to their very good ad campaigns, and the constant content additions to the universe. And of course, with additional users come more devs, better equipment, and more expansions, which in turn bring more users, etc, etc, etc :).
Of course since it was stated that the starter of the thread misquoted, this post is just in aknowledgement of the survivability of Eve.

mmm been playing OMG 6 months have you? I can see why they say the average person stays 7months. how can you not like ccp but like EVE? ccp is EVE. there is no EA system here, where developers branch out. ccp makes eve. everyone that works there. your comment is just complete nonsense. and btw, next month can i have your stuff?

Jeeze, second time I found someone posting something like this today... Evidently I get my PC Gamer way earlier then most people and most people dont pay attention to what they read!
Stop the PC Gamer Hating, they only put EVE on a list of games that people may not realize are still up and running, and probably because EVE is sometimes confused with the now gone Earth and Beyond!

Just for people's information
UK PC Gamer is a big fan of EVE
- There is some positive commentary about EVE in EVERY single issue...
In their 'recommended' games by genre EVE has been one of the 3 recommended MMOGS for nearly 2 years now
PC Gamer UK re-reviewed EVE with the launch of RMR and gave the game 89%
The last issue of PC Gamer UK included EVE in its 'Best 5 games currently on release' list
The last PC Gamer included much positive commentary about EVE in a feature about the FUTURE of PC Gaming...
