I literally have not been this excited about a new game for years. I am not here to compare it to Eve, goodness me no. The two have ships in space and that is where the comparison ends, but Elite is still great as something else to play.
I am installing it now, and yes, I know it is only Alpha at the moment, but I know it will be great.
Anyone else playing? |

This and Wasteland 2 both have my interest. Surrender is still your slightly less painful option. |

I want to give it a whirl also but im done with these under construction releases.
Off topic:
I have wasteland 2 as a backer and i say hold off. Found a few game breaking bugs so far which they are going to address down the line. "I think you should buy a new Mayan calendar. Mine has muscle cars on it." --áKenneth O'Hara

Every alpha/beta game that I've tested and actually liked end up turning to vaporware.
for this reason I shall refrain from trying out this game

No way am I paying $59.99 or over $200 for early access games just to be an alpha tester.
I did however, buy two early access games on Steam from indie developers earlier this year for a total of $30.
I do support game development, but I feel both Wasteland 2 and Elite are being developed by "big" name developers that have access to investment capital. I'll support the small, no name indie developer that is looking to break into the gaming industry.
I've waited a long time for actual sequels to Wasteland and Elite, I can wait a bit more to see if they make it to release. Surrender is still your slightly less painful option. |

I'm quite interested in E:D, partly because I'm an old fart who played elite on his c64 and mostly because it'll be a sandbox filled with awesomeness. I didn't buy myself into the alpha because frankly $200 sounds like a scam but I can't wait to buy the finished product.
On a somewhat related note; I really do think that EVE has shown many developers the "true path", showcasing that doing things your own way and not being mainstream can work just fine and that you CAN iterate, build and evolve an existing game making it a long lasting, long term investment and enjoyment. Other MMOs use expansions but those just simple content/grind additions and thus are very different from EVE's iterations and refinement updates. |

I am also a backer, however not paying shed loads just for beta access.
