You know, the IRC hosted ones? Whatever happened to those, they were fantastic for getting questions and concerns to the developers and getting answers to most if not all of them right away. Plus they were great for little tidbits of information on upcoming features and updates on development.
So when's the next one?

..I think we haven't seen them because of the new servers and patches keeping them busy but I for one would love to see new chats pop up.
Always was a good way to get a insight into what the developers wanted for EVE and for the community to voice their concerns.
Anyways, hope to see some crop up soon. :) - Mad
BTW, damn looking at your sig makes me wish they hadn't cancelled the series.

Tell me about it. But you know, it's one of those things that if they restart it or something you just KNOW it's not going to be as quality as it was, unless they got the exact team together that did it in the first place.
It's a great show though, worthy of an infinite number of repeated viewings. And the movie is just insane on my new TV. :)

Edited by: Avon on 09/03/2006 14:37:36 Oh, I remember those.
There would be a thread on the forums where people would suggest questions.
Everyone got really excited that the Devs would be put on the spot over the most pressing issues, and answers would be forced out of them.
Then the representitives would get on IRC and ask the Devs what their favorite chocolate bar was.
Yeah, they were great.
Honestly WB, go back and read some, and the threads around the same time.
It was nice for the Devs to give up their time and stuff, but I feel most of it was wasted on dumb questions.

I have put out a few invites for Dev Chat hosting, but nobody has stepped up. I don't know if they ended up in spam folders or not. Now that Bloodlines are out, the hardware seems to have settled in and we are in a very small lull before moving into Kali development, this is a perfect time.
I sort of miss them too, Winter.

I have watched the movie like 20 times. They don't aired the series here a couple of years ago but I only managed to watch a few episodes. And I can't find it for sale anywhere in this damn country.

i agree though mate, even through beta and early release i enjoyed the dev chats, those that i could make were always readily available through evegate.net as well. shame they seem to have vanished :(

Seeing as how the only question ever asked on the old devchats was "When will we see Titans?" there's less need for them now
Seriously though, they were often quite informative and it would be nice to see them return.

Devchats wheren't all that great, but if you really miss them Kieron. why not host them yourself? ~{When evil and strange get together anything is possible}~ A tool is only useless when you don't know how to use it. - ActiveX The grass is always greener on the other side. - JoCool |

Devchat FTW \o/
Even if one every 2/3 months, I think it would be great. I always had a lot of pleasure at reading all the stuff. They were also a good summary of players major concerns... Site ICEÖ since 767973 AD

To be honest, I think that a lot of the questions that used to be posed in those Dev Chats are now covered in the new 'In Development'/'On the Drawing Board' type sections of the website. Combine that with the 'Ideas forums' and you've got everything covered. As long as the Devs actually read the Ideas forum that is.

Oh for the love of God. I think every hello i read in the chat log I loose 1 hour of my life. If we do this again I hope there is an Eris collar and when the devs distract themselves with some stupid comment or joke there is a zap sent to thier collar.
The collar could have other uses also.
The term "Soon" shall not be used - a date or month or even a year could be used instead. If "Soon" is use ZAP
The will be no "I will have to let <dev name> look at that." used in the chat. We must not look at the actual code we must look if we want to do this or not. ZAP
There will be no usage of proper names. People outside the inner circle of forum *****s dont want to hear the gloating and self absorded elitist banter. ZAP
thank you -------------------------- I have big balls of Plasma coming out of my guns. |

I hope not.
Their sense of humor and seeming sincerity with such real gamer attitude makes what questions they answer seem all the more honestly answered. Official chats don't have to feel like you're talking to "officials".

I miss the dev chats too, there's still much to be created for the game. Now that all the new ships/mods/tech 2 is done seems like the major buzz has worn off.
Still, I NEED to know what are the rough plans for next gen R&D and it implications in the game, plus I want to see if modable ships are gonna be in kali.

I think I am a little too pushy.
Still, I'd do it - but you'd need somewhere to host the chatlog afterwards.

You can claim to be the toughest, most cut-throat & ruthless Jeremy Paxman-esque interviewer out there but that makes little difference in the backroom where the questions are carefully vetted before public revelation with semi-rehearsed answers.

I wouldn't mind hosting a developer chat on irc.eveolved.com.
How can i get in contact with you to set this up?
