Posting in a Stealth "Nerf carriers" thread....
CCP, trading shiny pictures for playability since 2003.. EvE, a cutting edge game. The only game to provide Matrix style gameplay for the masses! (trouble is, most people don't have 9 hours to waste on a one hour fight.) |

Why pay for it ? If you're in a half decent alliance that needs carrier pilots, and you can fly one, then they should pony up and give you one.

Like, for instance, Logistics. Yes, but a scythe can repair about 800 EHP per 5 seconds. A remote capital shield booster repairs about 1600 EHP per 5 seconds. If a chimera has 3 remote shield boosters, wouldn't it be better to just use 6 scythes? Look up "Triage Module I". Or "Triage Module II" if you're feeling adventurous. Dodixie > Hek |

Pretty much. For each level of the carrier skill they get 4 pages of tear laden hysterics from mittens.

we had an annoying 12 man intie gang running around our area which our 5 man vaga gang couldn't catch. warping a carrier to a gate allowed us to catch them and kill several before they realised obvious bait was obvious. Also whenever i need new ships or we redeploy i feel my lack of a carrier greatly. being a hitchhiker sucks. here is a list of all the fiat currencies that didn't end up at zero value.....and here is a list of the places where a currency pegged to a real commodity has successfully co-existed with compound interest....-á Here is a physics professor explaining why sustainable growth isn't a thing http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F-QA2rkpBSY |

This is the #1 reason to get a carrier. Yes, they can rep stuff, and they can drop drones for dps. But for those living in nullsec, it is the best way to truck around a bunch of subcaps for deployments. |

The purpose of a carrier is tear extraction. From a carrier undocking and repping that cyno ship you were trying to pop, elite PvPer that you are, to that slowcat fleet that ate your dread. From triage mode to 30M bounty ticks. And of course the best tears of all by the same carrier pilot, when he is finally caught and held, and his beloved carrier is slowly taken apart by subcaps before his eyes. |

Assigning fighters to a BShip fleet. strategic draw-of-attention, triage module, LOLbait, hotdropping, taking down hostile POS's/defending friendly ones... nullbears with too much money use them for AFK ratting.... That moment when you realize the crazy lady with all the cats was right... |

I don't know of many ships that can not only move all my crap from one station to another, dock, move a few fittings, and be ready to either super rep something, fight something, be generally bad ass. For how useful it is, it is under priced. "The stone exhibited a profound lack of movement." |

This man speaks truth. The Archon class carrier is the wave of the future. A sufficient fleet of these is nigh impregnable and able to bash structure or instapop interceptors and tackle, or kill dreadnoughts. They can clear tackle (bubbles) off themselves by way of smartbombs and can refit for virtually any situation on the fly.
They can cross the galaxy in a matter of minutes via jump drive or drop at zero and hunker down and turtle up on a strategic objective. Repair it too!
Soon the spacelanes shall be dominated by great fleets of these golden behemoths and all others shall fall by the wayside. The Empress will be most pleased. |

Uh. Carriers don't cost that much, and generally anyone who runs missions for about a week can afford one.
As far as what they are used for:
Drone platforms. If you see how the war with N3/CFC is going you will note that carriers feature prominently in all engagements as primary DPS ships.
Rep platforms: A couple of triage carriers dropping into a fleet can rep with far more power than any other ship in the game.
Mobile base of operations: Hotdrop groups have been known to use carriers to store an entire squads worth of equipment deep in someone elses space.
"All my crap shuttle": When I deploy to a new place to kill nerds, I do it in my carrier. I pack all the ships I need into it and go hopping across the universe.
Ratting: Anyone outside of a wormhole ratting in a carrier is a moron. |

Quite the oppsite unfortunately... Everytime a carrier dies hundreds of millions of isk magically appears in the wallet of the person losing the ship through insurance. The isk used to pay for it originally is not gone, it has just been moved to another person. So now you have approx. 1 bil isk + insurance. Isk sink requires money to disappear from the game, and producing a carrier has little to no cost towards non-players... |
