Hi guys, I love Amarr. Just the idea of a shitload of armour and lazorzz and the beautiful designs attracts me too much. Now, lately I can't help but notice that not a lot of people fly Amarr, which means that there are not a lot of fleets that will benefit from a good old armour tank (with so little people flying logi for armour rep).
So my question is this, is going for Amarr worth it? Will I spit on my monitor every time I fly out my Abaddon and wish it was a Raven? |

Fleets are usually composed of either armor or shield. I believe for logi purposes.
Yesterday I saw a fleet of mallers, must have been 20 of them and about 5 augorors. I routinely fly the arbitrator, the curse is a pretty wicked ship. The malediction is a pretty strong frigate. Neutageddon is popular for large pvp battles. Oracle is popular for shooting structures. |

Lots of people fly Amarr. Lots of fleets field armor. Most of my corp runs armor fits and all of us fly armor logi.

Flavor of the month changes, but as far as I know, Amarr have been at or near the top for a long time, especially in battleships. There's something to be said for having very tanky ships with great range projection and no reload times.
It depends a lot on what sorts of fleets you want in on. Amarr have a good presence in many types of fleets, but if all you want to do is super fast kiting or something, it would be good to look at the other races. I started back when everyone flew ravens fir mist things and the drake was king. By the time I was in bs with good skills amarr was the way to go. Then minmitar and now gallante with ravens again in high sec there's cycles so fly whst you want and cross train when you are ready. Always willing to help all you have to do is ask, though if your in the other fleet I may not help the way you want. Just a heads up. |

Amarr would be passable were it not for the cap penalty, bigger amarr ships need logi to be useful, but are then hampered by the lack of mobility that comes with armour tanking plates, thus amarr are fleet ships through and through. More than any other race a balance pass is desperately needed as at the moment they are underpowered at bc level or above unless flown with copious amounts of support. Armour fleets are definitely in vogue at the moment (sure, Gallente more than Amarr, but armour-logi is armour-logi). The only worst choice you can make at the moment is by switching to Caldari. That way madness lies. |

Amarr is a great race. Their weapon system are limited to two damage types (EM,Thermal) but extremely powerful. Yes you do need have a excellent CAP Skill but their ability to take damage and deal damage makes up for that. I don't know what I've done to offend you and certainly don't want to get into a pissing contest with you but I refer you to this 159 page of amarr battleship balancing in the F&I forum, the vast majority of forum posters have flown amarr and think they are due a balance pass and that cap is an issue.
https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=223607
Plus a futher 44 pages of Joy about Large Lasers. https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=224896
Plus at the time of posting we have only 4 amarr ships in the top 20 at Eve Kill
http://eve-kill.net/?a=top20
Plus do a search of the eve forums and you will see hundreds of posts complaining about amarr ships, lasers and cap use. Indeed CCP have promised a full balance pass on these in the future to address these concerns. The recent buffs of 25% damage to medium lasers and a 10% reduction in cap use for larger lasers came along in the wake of the feedback given by the community. I also specifically referred to Battle Cruiser and Above (i.e. battleships) in my original post. Fighters and cruisers are working well but that's just my opinion as I am in and out of them every single day. To be fair to ccp Fozzie and Rise they took a bunch of mostly unused ships and rebalanced them into usefulness which is why they are now worth flying. I cant wait for the future rebalance pass for laser weapons to come along, if that's done properly you might see them fitted on non Amarr ships in much the same way that we see projectiles fitted on amarr ships. When that happens we'll have balance.
Like I say there's always a reason why someone posts in the way that they do, no need to be hostile man you need to relax and chill a bit, get into the Christmas spirit. If you don't agree with me that's fine. Different opinions are good for discussion. Dumbing down of Eve Online will result in it's destruction... |

Oh. Boy.
What's going on in this thread? Talk of Amarr ships and balance without me getting an invite. How rude. I should punish you all (minus the ISD/Devs [excepting a certain Dev] because they get a pass) with a rendition of the Amarrian Imperial Anthem in Morse code.
We haven't had our race nerfed, general battlefield status utterly corrupted and generally given a good seeing too with the Beating Bat this time around so I'm getting highly suspicious something bad is going to happen.
To put it this way up until recently, the Amarrian battleships were like going to a bar and getting a Tequila Sunrise; a hard hitter, with a bit of a sweet spot if made right.
Currently its like going to the same bar, but this time when you ask for a Tequila Sunrise, you get a Bloody Mary instead. When questioning why this has happened, and that if he can't create the Tequila Sunrise, that you'll want a better alternative. The bartender turns around and says "Its a Bloody Mary now, and nothing will change. Here, have a little cocktail umbrella as well."
Regardless of how hard we've tried, it isn't going to become a Tequila Sunrise ever again. Which, unfortunately is a shame. Blessed are those that carry the Empress' Light; with it they destroy the shadows |

You shouldn't worry about training the wrong thing in EVE. It doesn't take long to be reasonably competent in most ships. The following should help to put the training time into perspective:
Without implants, and with the default attribute mapping 20p 20w 20i 20m 19c (i.e. very poor):
- Time to train all races of frigate / destroyer / cruiser / battlecruiser / battleship to level 3: 17d 20h 52s
- Time to train small / medium / large / hybrid / laser / projectile turrets & support skills to level 3: 13d 11h 39m 30s
- Time to train rockets / heavy assault / torpedoes / light / heavy / cruise missiles & support skills to level 3: 12d 23h 6m 40s
Of course you won't be able to use T2 ships, nor weapons or drones, and other skills are required for fitting and tanking. |

Sorry... I did not attack you. But you need to put things into context when flat out telling people "NO THAT IS BAD". It has always been said when going full amarr expect to never be able to fly with stable CAP. But you will surely be hurting things while you are able to.
Agreed that it can be looked at but the Amarr line of ships are by no means useless. Can you imagine how much whining there will be the day you no longer need to fly with Cap boosters when using Conf Crystals. That would be an awesome day for me.. not so much for my targets though. I started training Amarr when they were the red-headed stepchild of CCP. Yes it was annoying joining Null corps that wouldn't reim my ships, and that only provided minnie and gallente ships at station, so I had to import my ships from empire myself.
But then a couple of years ago CCP finally got around to fixing Amarr and we became FOTM. It was wierd. People who badmouthed Amarr for years suddenly started crossing over and flying golden.
There is one truth in Eve. Unless your favorite ship is a frigate, then probably whatever ship you want because it is FOTM, it will NOT be FOTM by the time you can fly it. But it doesn't matter. Not flying FOTM just means you can't beat someone else's EFT pure DPS fit.
So don't fly pure DPS, fly utility and then mock those 50m Skill Point characters flying 100m ISK( or more) fitted frigates when you nail them with a 10k ISK tracking disruptor and turn them to putty. Really. Even if the difference between 4 and 5 skill points is 100% damage, (which it isn't) a TD CAN make a 100% difference in your opponent's DPS.
Because you disdained all my counsel, and my reproof you ignoredGÇö I, in my turn, will laugh at your doom; will mock when terror overtakes you; -- Ultimate Griefer's Handbook |

Sorry man, it wasn't you I was getting at it was Ralph King-Griffin, who felt the need to repost your reply in a way designed to humiliate. I did make the point that fighters and cruisers work well though as cap stability is less important in smaller ships as cap tends to recover really quickly naturally in any case. I didn't think that my post said 'No This is Bad' but I accept that it can be read that way. The point is bigger amarr ships work well until the cap runs out hence the need for support.
As per what others have said in this thread the OP should try them all out and see what works for him. I an khanid and like being khanid so I deliberately choose to fly only Amarr and Caldari ships, plus the khanid variations etc It's my choice and it works well for me as I tend to fly the smaller ships these days, frigs mostly for low sec fun, but I accept that's my choice. Amarr ships are certainly the best looking in the game so there's some pride in flying them simply for that reason too.

I'm training both Caldari and Amarr. Sure it will take a long time but i'm getting the best of both worlds in terms of shield tanking and armor tanking. As an added bonus you will be able to fly Sansha ships that have superior firepower. |
