There should be a button to press to say that one is not available for chat in any channel. Having lots of people in a Corp channel, but not have anyone actually respond is most anoying. People become unavailable for many reasons - a fighting mission, or some real life situation.

I agree.. A AFK command/button would be good.

I must bump this, cause the same topic just came up on our forums.
There has been a some that mentioned opening a allience afk chnl. (hassle)
Some want the afk person to log off (i agree with this to a certain extent)
Some see no solution.
I think that it would be nice to be able to right click allience / corp / local/ whatever chnl. and select afk option, and then a light of some type appears beside my name to others in that chnl. Simular to the address book. Now some will complain that they had their afk on in local and got popped by a pirate while sitting at a planet, lol, those are just idiots, and deserve to die!!
But a option would be nice, I find myself leaving the screen for 5 to 15 min. for child duty, and would like to be able to make it known to both allience and sometimes war targets .

Something as simple as eve keeping track of how long it is since you last did a command and if it goes over 5 minutes displaying that as idle time under 'show info' along with a little afk indicator on the portrait would help.
Would also be useful for spotting macro users if you were willing to wait 5 minutes - as they would not be flagged as afk due to the macro but would also not respond to conversations.

Need this option. Game has been out for ages and something so simple on a par with the buddy icon and should be no problem to have. This is one of those little features that make a big difference to the quality of the game so please put it in Devs. ------

Not on a timer. I know of several indy users who sit a miner 2 in an indy and blast at a rock for hours without doing anything else but sit and read a book. (Sad isn't it )
The timer would show them as macro users to a noob and CCP would get bombarded with petitions that legit users are macro users. The real macro miners are essentially using commands by macro to move ore to the jet cans, target next rock etc. That won't weork either.
I like the idea of an AKF command that you can manually use so that if you're online and you're ship is sitting in a station while you have a bath, you can let everyone else know you are not availble for chat. -- My idea of an OS is one that Operates the System, not a complete package of every piece of software ever written. Computers created "The Paperless Office". But some stupid fool invented a printer |

I couldn't agree more.
It seems people are too lazy to close down Eve when they go AFK and then just connect back in.

Neccessary function that is surprisingly left out in a game that pays great attention to detail.

Maybe have some options to disable it for miners or whatnot.
This would be very helpful though!

I hate when there are 10 people in my corp online, I say several things, and no-one is there listening. What the hek is wrong with those people? |

/signed Often wished for a simple afk indicator, at least in corp chat, especially if you are afk and someone from your corp logs in and says Hi, They can know you are afk and not just ignoring them. This kind of thing does matter to some people and it cost nothing. -Vajra

Ok this post has got alot of positive so here comes the negative. This AFK button would really **** off the role players (which i am not) being able to tell people that your afk would bring people back to reality by bring reality into the game i cant see CCP wanting to do this as it would ruin the atmosphere of eve. Mabe if there was a way it could be done that would keep with the role playing side of eve although this would more than likly mean that people could only go afk whilst docked as you can hardly go anywhere in a pod.
Dont get me wrong i hate people going afk and me not knowing bout it but, you have to see other peoples side of view. Im sure the people that write thoes short stories could come up with something that would intergrate an afk button into the game, mabe if our pods didnt have a toilet facility installed and we had to exit our pods in flight to go to the toilet?? LOL

I dont see why an AFK button would disrupt the roleplay side of EVE, as Telnet-based MUCKs, which are pretty much ONLY roleplay, have AFK indicators... ________
Dont mind me, I'm just going insane... |

Edited by: Lygos on 28/03/2006 04:28:44 Hmm. EVE is basically based off of windows. I expect MSN messenger to pop up at anytime.
No, I don't even have the software. Mirc? What the hell do I want ya'lls input for?
For the roleplayers sake, we can make the button say "currently indisposed."

Edited by: Jinx Barker on 28/03/2006 14:54:55 I go for this with both arms and feet! People have been asking for this feature forever now.
As far as AFK & Please Gank Me Button: if thats the case, they deserve it! You and I both know it, dont leave yer badger un-attended with a billion ISK of Zydrine in it.
And Role Players & AFK: It wont cause a Problem. Just name it "OCR" button (Out of Communication Range), or NOF (Neocom Offline), whatever, just have a description close enough that says: "This Pilot is currently out of Communications Range. The Necom Computer is offline" and your Role Playing woes are over. Still in Character, just the comms are disabled, or something.
