I took a year off, and things have changed somewhat in Eve while I was away.
I'm currently doing level 4's in a legion, which is a bit slow. I noticed that there have been changes to the Armageddon to make it into a drone carrier, which is appealing. I know that the Dominix is a *better* drone carrier, but that isn't in the cards for a while
So, I'm just finishing up a few skills so that I can use Tech 2 sentries and Tech 2 heavy drones. Given the fact that it's nice to be able to select damage type, I was gravitating toward missiles for my high slots. For level 4's, what would be better in combination with drones... Rapid Heavy Missile Launchers, or Cruise Missile Launchers? The former are new to me, but I understand that there have been changes to cruise missile balancing as well and I was wondering which might be better. |

Don't bother with heavies for now, get T2 sentries and focus on support skills. Base would look something like this, if you don't feel at ease with that tank add another EM hardener. Fit extra damage to taste but unbonused weapons are terrible dps and just fck up your fitting.

Two main methods:
1) MJD Curator/Bouncer/Warden. 600-700dps from 100km+ drone range to targets with zero transversal, only sentry skills required.

2) 30-80km gank fit with cruise missiles and Gardes. Reaches approx. 1000-1200dps with decent application, being on the level of a Dominix with the pure damage type. I haven't got this one in EFT finished, might check it later... |

I actually use a tankier sit still in mission and apply 700-900 dps fit with t2 cruises and flights of medium and heavy drones.
Most of the time though you cant use heavies due to mission aggro.
Nice things is selectable damage types. Downside is resist profiles tend to be pretty meh. |

Just an idea but if you have both solid Laser and Drones skills, you may want to look at the Armageddon Navy Issue, no bonus for drones but it retain the huge drone bay with a double turret bonus. |

Thanks for the feedback!
I take it that, were I to use missiles, that cruises are a better overall option than RHML? |

Yeah, I might get one of those ships for missions where Lasers are optimal. I still need to work up my proficiency for large turrets, though, so it isn't an immediate option.

The above fits were far to frail and you will lose ships with them.
Don't be shy about using shields on this ship.
When using missiles and a vamp you will have plenty of cap to feed a shield tanked fit.
It's also a style that will help you train toward a rattlesnake without wasting SP on unrelated skills. (( Highly Recommended ))
If you go for a balanced/raw DPS approach with shields you can see 1000-1100 DPS, 300 m/s constant speed, 400 mission specific tank v.s. blood/sansha and far higher v.s. other npc groups, all while cap stable.
Be willing to spend for a faction/complex shield booster / Large armor repair. |

The Rattlesnake blows, unless you are doing solo PvE content harder than lvl 4s and actually need its tank
Its got worse DPS than a geddon. You must be terribad if you need that much tank, and think the previous fits were too squishy.
A rattlesnake will just take loner to finish a mission than a Domi/Navy Domi, takes longer to train for, and is more expensive.
If a Domi "isn't in the cards" for him, a rattlesnake, certainly isn't.
T2 Gardes with 2-3x omni IIs/fed navy omnis will have sufficient range for most rats, and you can carry curators/bouncers/wardens as well for the rats that are out of range. I would also support using missiles on the geddon. |

i would agree with the above advice, with the caveat that the rattlesnake is actually fantastic (active fit). "CCP is changing policy, and has asked that we discontinue the bonus credit program after November 7th. So until then, enjoy a super-bonus of 1B Blink Credit for each 60-day GTC you buy!"
Never forget. |

I have a Rattlesnake, and its not "terrible".... but for the standard level 4, its "meh"
I can't do much with its launchers... there are only 4 of them after all, and it has so few low slots, and thats where the DDAs go. My missile range skills are only at lvl 4, maybe if I had them higher and T2 torps, I could do something with its launchers + range bonus, since torps do more DPS (although this would only help vs battleships really), But to me it seems like its 3rd bonus is just a waste... a damage application bonus to a weapon system that the hull doesn't really use.... wasting a bonus on 4 launchers... and the bonus doesn't even increase their damage.... lame
To me, its effectively a 2 bonus ship (even worse than the nightmare, with its role bonus that is basically just reduced cap and crystal consumption).... putting it on par with other T1 ships in that respect (sure, its still got an extra slot, and nice base stats... although its shield recharge time is the only thing that stands out).
Its a shield domi with a bonus to tank, and without a bonus to drone range and tracking.... for lvl 4s, I don't need the rattlesnake's awesome tank (although I use it on some of the epic arcs).
If I don't need the extra drone range and tracking, then I'll take a navy Domi, which has a more useful bonus to its highs, and more highs that make use of that bonus. Navy domis can really put out the DPS. Or I'll take the geddon... more weapon highs for more DPS if thats what I want in place of drone range and tracking.
If I won't be needing the tank of the RS, it stays in the hangar. As I don't take anything bigger than a BC outside of HS... my rattlesnake typically stays in the hangar....
Its even worse now that I have an Ishtar (Note, I haven't gotten Gal BS to V, but I do have Amarr BS there, so only counting drones my geddon out DPSs my rattler and domi, My ishtar atm also out DPSs my Domi, but thats just because of my skill set) |
