In light of the recent announcement of the monetisation of the Bulk Trade mailing list, a new list will be required for those of us who do not wish to pay to access a list. This list is a simplified version of the existing list which I hope can be a good platform to transition from one to the other. While the list is still gathering momentum, I would advise to post on both the old list and this one until the bulk of the market has transition across.
You can help it build momentum by advertising this to your friends, corps, alliances and customers. The idea is to have a large, free and fair list so you can continue to make good trades every day. The only way to build a new list at such short notice is to get as big a base of customer as traders as possible, as quickly as possible, and with your help we can do just that.
Below is a copy of the welcoming mail you will receive upon joining for the rules and such.
What is this? This is a mailing list to trade in larger volumes of goods. It's designed as a replacement to the defunct "Bulk Trade" list. The rules are slightly simpler, but the structure and use will be similar. Any questions, comments or problems can be mailed to Shira Dian.
The rules: The rules are pretty simple 1. Only items are to be traded here. This is not for services and not for auctions.
2. Only bulk trades, of multiple items. I'll not set specific limits for most items but 5+ for most things and 50k+ for ammo/minerals/etc. will be a good guideline. Warning will be given out if I feel the spirit of this rule is not followed.
3. Scamming will not be tolerated. Setting a high CSPA charge (>50k) will also be frowned upon.
4. Your email titles must contain WTB/WTS, and the name (or group name) of the items being sold. Where possible the quantity should also be given.
5. Once completed, you should forward your email back in adding "SOLD" or "COMPLETE" or something to that effect to the beginning of your title.
Note: Failure to adhere to the rules will result in warnings and bans or various lengths at my discretion. Unlike the bulk trade list, there will be no charges for bans, as I want this to be transparent and fair. Once a ban expires you will be allowed back onto the list, but will be marked. Repeated failure to adhere to the rules will result in a permanent ban, which will not be lifted.
There is no charge for the use of this list, however donations are always appreciated. |

Thanks for the support, I'll do my best to run the service and efficiently as possible to keep you guys trading once Bulk Trade drops.
Just added to the OP the addition of the chat channel Wholesale Trading. Feel free to join that too. It will be moderated along with the mailing list. Wholesale Trading - The all new, free replacement for the defunct Bulk Tade mailing list. |

it would be in your own interest to make the rules more strict and more precise. it will save you a lot of pain in the long run. also, you should make it clear that the rules will not be enforced 100% to save some more trouble dealing with whiny clients ('but six months ago that one guy did the same thing i did and he was not banned!').

I'll definitely be considering this. My first goal is to get people in an using the list more. There's been a few mails go through already which is good, but more is always better.
The rule structure will be much the same as the existing list (so pretty much if it was fine in the old system, it's fine here), though there will be revisions. Bans will obviously vary by severity of breach, but I'm already working out guidelines. The bonus this has over the old list is that I have no benefit to banning people. I don't gain from it, so there would be no reason for the seemingly random bans that used to be an issue. At the moment, having not been involved in the previous list, I need to gauge a better understanding of the type of edge-cases we will get.
And yeah, bans won't be dished out for 100% of cases. In reality I'd like people to be able to control themselves and have to ban noone, that would be pretty amazing, but is unlikely to happen. The key is though if it's understandable as an honest mistake, a first time offense, and of low severity there is likely to be more flexibility that the old list. I've built a internal app which I'll be using to monitor bans and warnings so it's not going to be too ad-hoc.
Overall though, the system is going to be as fair, flexible and transparent as possible. I'll happily take on board all advice, ideas and complaints from the users, either here, by evemail or though the channel, and aim to build a robust systems which everyone can use and benefit from. Membership numbers are ticking away steadily and we've seen a few trades going through already. Still got a bit of work to do yet, and hopefully this weekend I'll get a chance to buff out the structure a little, but so far a very positive experience.

Hey all, thanks again for the ongoing support. As some of you may already there is some resistance from parts of the community official and unofficial (and that's as much as we can say about the matter) but in spite of that we're still steadily growing and seem to be trading quite well. Most of that is because of you guys buying and selling, so thank you for helping build the fair, free and transparent system.
For those who are wondering, we are currently pushing 192 members of the list and that number is increasing day by day. We've had 63 trading posts go though since the list was created 7 days ago (that's around 33% more than the existing bulk trade list), so it's all very promising. Hi all. Just wanted to quickly pop on here to reiterate my apologies for the recent spamming of the list. I was fortunately able to respond within only a few minutes and permanently banned from the list the offending players. This is unfortunately W3370Pi4's desperate attempt to prevent this list from successfully operating in place of his paid for list. I am currently looking into longer term solutions for this particular problem as a high priority. I'd advise anyone receiving the spam to remove it. You may also wish to block both characters (Ambulation 2008 and CriticalHurt) though their mailing list bans will never be lifted.
Again, my sincerest apologies.
As a bit of good news however, a little update. We have now reached a total of 254 members, so still growing well.
Edit: Happily, this appears to be covered by the ToS:

The war of the mailing lists is quite amusing to watch. Looks like the owner of bulk trade is desperately trying to sabotage his new competition. Well I guess it's pretty hard to compete with free. |

Not surprising. You can safely assume a significant chunk of the old subscriber base was inactive by default, character, account or player wise. Everyone who's paying enough attention to subscribe to the new list is pretty much by default at least "active lurkers" and since some of these have ceased using the old one, the activity should be higher here.
I'm enjoying this, even if it is just the same old thing as before under a new name.

Since the 8th there has been 5 sale posts in bulk trade not including updates or discussion posts, in the same amount of time there has been 21 sale posts in wholesale trading not including updates or discussions.
w3 has actually spammed 10 times in wholesale trading since the 8th, that's twice as many anti-wholesale trading posts by him as there has been sale posts in his mailing list.
Numbers of subs is deceiving aswell, considering as someone else has stated many are inactives, and not to forget alts. I alone have 12 characters in bulk trade and 1 in wholesale. Activity is key, and there's a clear winner here.
1 more stat for you. So there's been 5 and 21 sale posts, all 5 of bulk trades posts appeared in wholesale trade. No unique content being generated by using bulk trade.
Out with the old, in with the new. Bulk trade is dead. |

Hey all. Just wanted to give a quick update. We're currently up to 361 members and trade is flowing well daily. We're pushing more traffic than the old bulk trade and the subscription group (which has had 3 posts since it began) combined which is brilliant news.
I'm aiming to get the OP of this thread updated with a more concise rule structure this weekend if I can find the time to write it up. Nothing will change if you guys keep doing what you are doing, it's just to give clear guidance to those who aren't familiar with how these lists work, and to outline the punishments for bad behaviour.
As usual, if you have any comments or questions, you can post them here or send me an eve-mail directly, and I'll endeavour to respond as quickly as I can. Thanks for all of your ongoing support. Wholesale Trading - The all new, free replacement for the defunct Bulk Tade mailing list. |
