Eventually Cosmos missions will get updated / fixed. When that will happen largely depends on the amount of petitions CCP receives from the mission running player base.. Situations and issues like this definitely need to be brought to the attention of the Eve Community and more importantly, to CCP themselves.
This thread would have been a lot more beneficial if it had been posted in the sub forum - Missions & Complexes. General Discussion is pretty much Troll Central filled with a lot of high brow thug mentality, constantly spouting their pompous opinions and gang banging on any who oppose.
By the way, the snarky remarks from CSM posted in this thread is a typical example of a self serving attitude that's only concerned with issues that affect themselves. In my opinion that behavior contradicts with the position of CSM as a Community Representative.
DMC Exploit? Good lord. It's been a while since I saw a post as bad as this one. Heh, pot calling the kettle black. In other words, you got no room to talk.

It's really easy to say, "this is the way things are, working as intended". It doesn't require any thought whatsoever.

I realise that this is new and shocking to you, but this has been common knowledge since forever. Still, congratulations on expanding your understanding of the game. So? That doesn't mean it isn't spectacularly dumb in terms of game design, like quite a few things in Eve. THIS is what the OP is suggesting.
The whole COSMOS thing is spectacularly dumb game design. CCP didn't touch it in like 6 years, it's pretty obvious no one cares... At least some of the mistake they made there weren't remade in epic arcs, so it wasn't all for nought.

I had this guy show up in my mission once. He threatened to blow it up if I didn't pay his ransom. He then proceeded to rage and cry when I blew it up myself and warped off. It amused me greatly.
By the way, there IS a way to reset the missions, and I never DID get a response as to if it was an exploit or proper game mechanics! :D |

The funny thing is when you all say things like "working as intended" "don't make mission runners super special!" "noob hi-sec is dangerous" you are just giving top grade ammo to the people who want to abolish all risk in hi-sec.
Look at suicide ganking. You could possibly make the argument the the risk/consequences are not quite in line between ganker and gankee, but at least they exist in some remotely significant form for both parties. The consequence of a successful gank for the gankers is losing all their ganking ships and potentially losing loot from their gank target to a 3rd party (and before anyone makes a comparison to the specific issue of this thread.... suicide ganking is certainly repeatable). They also lose security status, which will eventually make it more difficult for them to travel hi-sec and suicide gank further targets.
The gankee in this situation has fairly clear options. One, he can tank his ship to the point where the gankers would have to bring too many suicide Catalysts relative to the value of his cargo (more like 50% of his cargo from the perspective of profiting off of dropped loot form suicide ganks). He can also use Blockade runners, or DST/T1 Indy's with cloak + MWD to effectively avoid potential ganks.
Maybe the balance there isn't spot on, but there is an obvious give and take at hand.
This situation I don't think could be more different. When facing multiple characters, all in NPC corps, none of which seem to sleep, options are fairly limited. Hi-sec or not, their grand scale thievery and invasion doens't trigger concord (even though what is at stake is worth more ISK than plenty of suicide gank targets). They can't be war-dec'ed. Their time/skill/ISK investment, as stated before, is minimal. If you were to, for example, bring a buddy in an interceptor, you've effectively put the result of this one time valuable mission on a random crap shoot of your inty friend vs. the thief's.
Yes CCP wants to let the players decide how the game will be played (to varying degrees depending on where in New Eden they are). At the same time, it is still on them to create a framework in which interactions have some shred of logic and reason. Tracking Titans got nerfed, drone assist is getting the hammer, but creating a framework for remotely sensible mission specific item rules is heresy?
On that note, while I think a lot of replies have been poorly reasoned, I found the response from one of our wonderful CSM members especially embarrassing. I would hope that a player in such a position would be able to come up with a response to these issues better than what was, in effect, "HTFU carebear. People in other parts of space deserve CCP intervention to fix broken systems.... but not you!" |

I have a rule. Its a simple rule, one that used to be applied by every CCP dev, CSM member and player of EvE to any discussion on potential changes to mechanics of the game...
Ready?
"Does the proposed change increase or decrease the likelihood of conflict between players?"
If the answer is increase, the proposed change should be embraced. If the answer is decrease, then regardless of its askance rationale the proposed change should die in a fire, along with its requestor
If you cannot embrace this 'first principle' of EvE then you are either directly or indirectly part of the nerf EvE crowd, who should return to WoW immediately, perhaps only pausing in every EvE system on your way out to beg forgiveness for your heresy. You should no longer be a dev, CSM or EvE player -- because you have simply lost the f#$cking plot.

So you really think this is the #1 rule of Eve developmenet? Bit naive. Why does hi-sec exist then? Why do we have plexes in FW full of warpstabbed frigs? Don't you think the ease of transporting blobs across null discourages fights? What about the ability to play docking games and avoid fights? Covert ops Cloaks? Using cloak + mwd to avoid camps/suicide gankers?
You do realize that generally changes with create a logical framework with some semblance of balance will generally create conflict?
Let's be honest, this is a fairly edge case of conflict that applies to very few people. Further, fixing it in a way that makes it somewhat balanced (read: not making everything perfectly safe for a mission runner) would require some work on both method and implementation. Personally I think if this affected more people they would have dealt with it already.

I suppose I am actually referring in terms of moving forward from status quo, from what we currently have, as contrasted to the moves made in the last few years to shift negatively from status quo to reduction of conflict generators.
Balance per se' is fine, the point is that the pendulum has already swung too far to nerfdom and needs a counter swing. Would you like to know more? |

I may be off base here, but i am pretty sure Jenn is a carebear. Just not the mewling, whiny crybear type like the OP.
For the record, I carebear too. I f'in love that I have to watch my six when running mish, especially COSMOS. Adds some spice to an otherwise mind-numbing soul crushing task.
People like the OP are playing the wrong game. ... |

Yeah, but that would lower the value of the item, and it would throw out opportunities for BOTH sides of the argument. Killboard

All I know is if/when I ever do these COSMOS thingies I'm bringing tons of corpies with me to gank/****/spindle and fold anybody trying to grab mah loots.
Now I'm off to figure out how to grab somebody else's loots.....
Also.....oh, Eterne, how I hate you. You shall never know the depths of my hatred. Some threads should just be deleted, NOT DUMPED HERE! It's the players job to make specrapular threads in C&P, not have them dumped here!!!
Also also, OP is the classic example of his sig. I found the irony hilarious.
Everything in EVE is a trap. And if it isn't, it's your job to make it a trap...:)
