For a Retriever and Strip Miner you should train
* Industry Level 5 * Mining Level 4 * Science Level 4 * Astrogeology Level 3 * Space Ship Command Level 1 * Mining Frigate Level 3 * Mining Barge Level 1 |

Open markettab ingame and lookup the retriever. Check its minimum skill requirements. These are the skills you need to train to that level at least. Once you have those, you can undock the retriever. Training skills above that just makes the ship more effective.
Take modules you want to use on it into account as well. T1 mostly just need lvl1 from a skill, T2 lvl4. Modules and their requirements can be found on market as well.
You can do this for all ships. |

also is there a place i can buy cheaper skill books and ships other than my home system, Im currently in the system i started but everything is soo expensive here .
will take for forever to buy all the skills and modules and ships.
Or is that the normal price of things.

You can filter marketrange for items to; station - system - region (maybe something in between) in the left upper corner of the marketwindow.
Skillbooks are sold mostly by NPC corporations. You can recognize these by 595 sellorders for a skillbook for example. These are mostly the lowest price you can get for skillbooks. Every now and then a player buys a skillbook he already has and will sell it again below NPC price. Basic skillbooks are widely available. Specilzed ones are easier and cheaper to get in specific region or through LP stores. Amarr Large Beam Specialization is best bought in Amarr space for example.
Be advised that certain cheap items are in lowsec. They're cheap for a reason.

First you should do the tutorials "Aura" (the Blue Head at the left side) give to you. Then you should open the 'Help' (Blue/White question mark at the left side). And there 'Career Agents'. And do the career tutorials.
You will earn free skill books free ships and free modules by doing these tutorials.
You are in the 'Lonetrek' region at the moment. This region is not known for low Prices. . Each Region has it's own market. Head for the region 'The Forge' - System 'Jita' (only 3 jumps away from your place) for better prices.
Skill books are typically seeded by CCP into the markets and have a fixed price (exceptions of this exist). You can identify these by CCP seeded items if the duration of an advertisement in market is between 350 to 364 days. Longest duration in market for items sold by players is 90 days. Sometimes players sell skill books in market to a lower price than the items seeded by CCP. |

My 0.02 ISK in this.
1. Skillbooks are NPC seeded. So, unless someone is selling them at a loss, the prices you see in the station you started in are the values of said skillbooks.
There are some exceptions. Some skills are dropped from exploration and thus are only traded player-2-player. And some skillbooks are seeded regionally (Some Caldari skills are seeded in Caldari space, Amarr skills in Amarr space) and thus buying it out of region can mean they are a little more expensive (because the selling party had to buy them, haul them and resell them).
2. Just because you can undock a ship doesn't equal you can properly use it. It is possible to get in a Retriever ASAP. But keep 1 small thing in mind (and this is not to discourage you or say you shouldn't aim for one), retrievers have a low tank and there are a good bunch of players that target them because of that.
Given the bonuses on the hull, base stats mean that a Procurer and Retriever mine exactly the same. The difference in both is made with the Mining Laser Upgrades you fit in low-slots. Personally, I would go for a Procurer over a retriever. It doesn't have a big ore hold, so you must make more trips to unload, but it does have a very high tank. This will turn away 99% of the suicide gankers because they rather choose the person in a retriever 2 systems away over trying to chew through your tank fast enough.
Then again, if you move out of the heavy populated systems (mainly Caldari space and around other major trade hubs) and find a nice and quiet spot somewhere, a retriever is a valid ship to use, as long as you keep your situational awareness high enough (so don't just go mine AFK while watching a movie or something). Yes, you can become killed very easy even in High-Security space. If you don't take care. You can fly around in HS with any ship, typically that is no problem at all. In some areas (Asteroid Belts, Deadspace Complexes, a.o) you can meet NPC/Rats. Which can blow you out of your ship, if your tank (Shield/Armor) of the ship is not good enough.
But as Miner you don't fly around. You are always in danger, that someone suicide ganks you.
I guess you are new in game, so I will give you some additional informations below:
In EvElopia you can search and find a lot of useful Information. For example a Beginners Guide to EvE Online
To earn ISK and see the different ways for this, read ISK - The Guide
And look above in this forum area at the sticky threads, for example the topic: EVE New Citizens Q&A Resources
Fly safe

Altho i have just seen something thats really intrigued me i found a channel called recruitment and a player wos saying his corp lives in wormhole space.
Now without sounding dumb i assume this is the lower end of security space the no sec part. I cant lie im very excitable with space stuff and im overwhelmed at the moment with information, After goggling eve online wormhole space i see all sorts of interesting things i want to do right now BUT i know my little knowledge is holding me back
or should i say skills.
Again thank you all for all this very helpful and interesting information.
im off to mine some rocks now (jumps up and down very exited and flaps arms around like a mad man).

Yes.
High-sec is safer...not safe.
High-sec just means that CONCORD will punish the offender, they don't protect. In EVE there is only 1 safe place...docked in station. Want to have some chat in game? Need help to get into the game as a new player? Just join my channel: Crazy Dutch Guy |

ty folks.
There are 4 "types" of systems:
Known space: High-security space - Sec status between 0.5 - 1.0 / CONCORD will punish / Sec status drops for non legal aggression / Consists out of the main NPC factions.
Low-security space - Sec status between 0.1 - 0.4 / No CONCORD / Sec status drops for non legal aggression / Part of empire space (so part of the 4 factions).
Null-sec space - Sec status between -1.0 - 0.0 / No rules other then you can enforce / 2 sub types: SOV = controlled by player alliances + NPC = owned by NPC Pirate factions
Wormhole space: W-space - Classed as -1.0 / No CONCORD or rule (like null-sec) / Local in delayed mode (so you only show up if you speak in it) / Only planets and sun show up, rest has to be probed / No stations or stargates, travel through wormholes.
