You have to be in a player corp to setup a POS, but this can be as small as a 1 man corp so it can be done solo.

Anyway, if i am not wrong, you can only build a corp if you have enough standing with a faction. Except in 0.0 space.
You also have to be big enough to travel in low sec, because you are only alowed to set-up a POS in 0.4 space or lower. |

You don't need standing at all to run a corp.
But you need one to erect in 0.4 and higher.
With also some starbase charter. -------------------------- I have a constitutional right to write somethings dumb and crazy. |

I just buy it.
How much cash? Mine used to make about 45 million profit a day at market prices, but now its down to about 25 million.

I was running a simple POS mining technetium and found it simply too time intensive with only 2 accounts. I bought all the fuel etc, but the time it took to haul it into 0.0 was just too much considering I only get the chance for casual play during the week.
I think it's probably just possible to run a small POS for a modest profit but from experience, I think you'll find it dominating your EVE game time.

yes you can do it easily, the bigger problem is actually to define whats your pos for.
examples:
1. as ratting base in 0.0 2. for mining raws, problem who buys your raws 3. harvest something that nobody cares about the moon, because its so common and make a reaction from this and sell these for good money 4. for mining operations in 0.0
you also can just join a corp and put a pos up for them, for example we have already a couple and we would love to put another up with a nice member!
kaptn we are looking for members!
- 0.0 mining - 0.0 ratting - 0.0 hauling
we are selling

I have three accounts all able to fly covetors and itty 5"s for hauling,I can easily handle fueling my own pos"s for a week with one good day of mining ice.I"m about to setup another pos which will give me three,i can make around 100 mil + per week not counting my expenses for parts. Also Caladin if your planning on setting up a pos in a .4 system in empire, forget about mining moon minerals as you won"t find any :)Only get moon material in systems .3 and lower.

Devote instensive hours for first two weeks, then just fuel it once a week as needed... couple hours a week. And enjoy those faction spawns... they pay for a pos in just a week.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Just because it has wings does not mean it can fly or was even meant to in the first place. Whatch that first step, its a dooz |

This may be pushing the "asking for trade secrets" envelope, but how do you make money with 1-2 small POSes? For example, do you shoot for raw materials, reactions, or something else entirely?
I (and some friends) have been running the numbers, and without processing up to the final reactions we have not found profitable market for our materials.
Thanks for your answers.

Not as much of a problem as you might think. Hear that giant sucking sound? That's [BLUE] buying half of the raws and intermediates in Eve. Hectic of LIH is primary contact for materials acquisition. Contact him for more details. Currently, we are most interested in Dysprosium and Dysprosium related intermediates but are happy to talk to anyone who is selling raws of rarity 8 or higher or intermediates besides Carbon Polymers, Ceramic Powder, Silicon Diborite or Sulfuric Acid.

In order to make money on a small tower it's best to find a rarity 64 moon mineral (dysprosium is a good example) although you can certainly turn a decent profit on more common raws. After you do that go on posfuntime or another channel and try to find a regular buyer. Your harvester will bring in 16,800 units per week. Let's say you get 5000pu for your Dysprosium (NOTE: price chosen only as an example) then your profit would be.
16,800 * 5000 - (9-12 million fuel costs) = 72-75m isk per week.
Whether that's "good money" depends on your actual contract price, where the moon is located, and how much you value your time. :)

btw, what is the deal with claiming system sovereignty? Do you need to be in an alliance to do this or can a corp claim a system? |

After the new BPOs came out, there was a MASSIVE spike in material prices due to undersupply and the massive demand from all the new T2 ship BPOs.
However, now people have set more POSs up, and the price has fallen back down to reasonable levels.

This is also probably a trade secerts question, but which moon ores are worth looking for and which ones are not worth the time?
