I can fly a Mack and a Hulk but can't fit Gas Cloud Harvesters to either of them as there are no launcher hard point on any mining vessels.
As this is seems to be the case, why is it that they are a required skill to increase mastery levels of these types of vessels?
I have missed something or is there a way to install Gas cloud harvesters on this type of vessel that I have missed....???

Ship mastery: slightly less broken than the old cert system. Sigh.
No, there's no way to harvest gas with barges or exhumers. |

The Noctis mastery levels require the pilot to train mining drones. Go figure. Though I guess at least the Noctis can use mining drones, even if you wouldn't actually use it for mining.

And the Venture mastery requires ice harvesting though it can't fit ice harvesters. :-(

It's because the masteries are just collections of certificates. The resource harvesting certificate covers all of the types of mining, so to get that certificate you need to do gas as well as ore. The masteries are a bit misleading in that regard. The Indecisive Noob - A new EVE Fan Blog for news and stuff. |

Why on Earth would you want to use a Mackinaw, if it could fit gas harvesters, as it fits only 2 ?
Use a Moa or a Myrmidon, or a Dominix.

You apparently did not read the OP. Allow me to re-phrase it:
OP does not want to mine gas in his Mackinaw. Therefore, he never trained gas harvesting. Now he is stuck at a low level of Mastery for his exhumers. This makes his e-peen flaccid.
Now he is trying to decide whether it is better to train skills he knows are useless to him, or to continue to be mocked by his low exhumer mastery level every time he opens Aura.
Therefore, he came to the forums to whine, hoping that if he gets enough support, then CCP will change the mastery requirements for exhumers.
To the OP: Yeah that seems like a good idea to me. I'm not holding my breath, though.

Venture for gas mining. Any gas worth your time is in low, 0.0 or WH space. Getting out with your gas is more important than yield.

Ore, Ice and Gas are three separate harvesting specialties. My assumption here is that the people putting the certificates together wanted to have some way of recognising higher mining skills even though you already need the higher skills to use the T2 equipment. Rather than one certificate for each specialty, they just lumped the specialties together as "resource collection".
Personally, I'd remove the Ore/Ice/Gas collection skills from any certificates/masteries since (as I already mentioned) the skills are already required to be level 5 in order to use the equipment.

This. CCP Ytterbium and his certificate/mastery system is a gigantic enormously successful troll. "CCP is changing policy, and has asked that we discontinue the bonus credit program after November 7th. So until then, enjoy a super-bonus of 1B Blink Credit for each 60-day GTC you buy!"

Tengu mastery requires drone skills even though only one subsystem even allows drones to be used and no one has ever used said subsystem since T3's were made. having all got the moaning done the mastery system is way better than the previous system as it does bring to your attention skills that might be useful for the ship you are flying. a quick read of the skill then determines if it really is helpful or not. under the previous system vital skills for your ship could easily have been missed. player brain still needed but less browsing of skills now required. They can fit 5. Venture for gas mining. Any gas worth your time is in low, 0.0 or WH space. Getting out with your gas is more important than yield. The Venture bonuses * 100% bonus to mining yield and gas cloud harvesting * 5% reduction to gas cloud harvesting duration per level of Mining Frigate
2 turrets * (1 + 100% role bonus) / (1 - Mining Frigate 5 * 5%) = effectively 5.33 gas harvesters
With a 5000 m3 hold, there is really no point to using a Myrmidon, or a Dominix, unless you plan to fight. [Most ninja w-space gas harvesters just warp out when the Sleepers spawn after about 10 minutes.] |

That is not the same at all.
Gas Cloud Harvesters cannot be fit on an exhumer. Therefore, it makes no sense to require Gas Cloud Harvesting for exhumer mastery.
All Nightmare pilots (and all battleship pilots for that matter) will have a set of drones for defense against tacklers. The Electronic Warfare Drone Interfacing skill allows the battleship pilot to control his drones at a further range. You may debate about how often they need to send their drones after targets between 45 and 60 km away (the distances allowed by the EWar Drone Interfacing skill) but it is never a bad thing to have the additional ability. |
