This isn't anything about lag or whatnot.
When i do a 5ly gate jump, i expect it to be a bit more of a delay then a 1ly gate jump. so um, why not?
gate camp: "He is jumping thru the gate!" (10 seconds) "..." "Where is he?" "Still jumping?" "AH THERE IS THE GATE ACTIVATION! BUBLAY BUBLAY BUBLAY!"
**Bublay is an inside joke, it means bubble but certain people with a certain accent say it like that. |

because space magic.
Because people don't have imaginations or read much sci fi these days. Any amount of space magic reasons could be attributed, and the idea that different interstellar distances between take more or less time to travel, when time could be completely suspended, and in fact is, is strange. Eve already sucks up a lot of time and to go beyond the speed of light you need to leave the universe, or traverse another dimension unpalpable to human senses. Instantanious spooky action at a distance. should you be traveling at the speed of light, well relativity and time are the source for many rip can winkle stories. Best to stick to space magic. The last thing you want after a long warp ( which is also faster than light but localized, there would be shorter stretches of time which can be ignored by further space magic) is a long jump. next you'll have it mass based, so that freighters take time multipliers to jump through.
Someone had the same idea a while ago, Tidi was thought to be bad enough, imagine a ti-di warp delay. You're not talking about lag, but I certainly think of it with a shudder. Get some Eve. Make it yours.

IIRC the lore actually specifically mentions that wormhole travel times are uniform regardless of distance traveled. |

Another problem would be unit cohesion. enough of a delay by ti-di ships jumping from one side to a non-tidi system on the other may run out the jump cloak clock before most of the fleet actually gets into the system. the decloaked have to brave sitting on the gate as SB bait, or warp to safes and back.
Moot point, Lore is Lore and simple is best Get some Eve. Make it yours.
