I think it would be cool to be able to 'hire' crew members for our ships. Imagine a system sorta like Mechwarrior (not the MMO) where you could pick crew members for certain task, then as they survive combat they get better. We could actually have some control over the officer crew that helps us run the ships. Especially the bigger ones! We could get a new skill branch under Social, new reputation and standings to acquire, and be able to plan long-term for effectiveness. At some point we could even open up 'job fairs' where we can buy and sell the contracts to our employee's. Having a well-trained crew could make or break encounters. And it would add another layer to the losses taken when we lose a ship. |

A new revolutionary never heard before idea, that is completely needed because the ship is wired to do everything that my thoughts direct it to. oh wait
Sorry, I'm not up on my lore, but even I know this part of it. Your ship is your body, Capsuleer. Get some Eve. Make it yours.

Nearly all ships still have a lot of crew members, despite us piloting them "A City made of Wood is built in the forest; A City made of Stone is built in the mountains; But a City made of Dreams....is built in heaven."

Ships have crew members, you get them with the ship. considering 500k isk is a huge amount to a non capsuleer you wouldnt even notice the difference in price. |

Sorry, maybe I should have been more clear... The opening sentence would be: "I think it would be cool to be able to 'hire' certain crew members for our ships.
We obviously don't want to manage hundreds of crew members on the bigger ships, and those who don't want to bother with it could have choose instead to have a randomly generated 'officer crew'. But for those who would be interested, they could hire and fire to fill certain key roles among crew members, providing for small bonuses or perks on the ships they are stationed. These 'employee's' of ours could be moved from ship to ship as needed. |

If lore is to be believed, capsuleer crews are slowly injected with the owner's hormones so that they won't change ships even when their contracts expire. They also don't really do anything useful on Galentte and Amarr ships. |

or have them go on the market every time they dock up, except in amarr, where you keep them in the cargo hold on bread and water. every time you dock up, you can re-hire the same/whatever crew, or just undock with a green one. or have another kind of thing, either indentured servitude or a retainer contract for a fixed price over a fixed period, with an option when it elapses. imaginary people have rights too. Get some Eve. Make it yours.

Are you willing to spend the time manually selecting 5000 crewmembers for your battleship. Dumbing down of Eve Online will result in it's destruction... |

The capsular interface means you don't have to, it's an order of magnitude more efficient than verbally giving orders to crew via officers etc. Employing officers wouldn't entitle you to bonuses as officers and crew cant match your level of efficiency., which is why crew are mostly relegated to menial jobs you wouldn't waste a drone on. Dumbing down of Eve Online will result in it's destruction... |

My understanding was that in essence we became the ship through the capsule interface. But that does not necessarily mean we have a genius level grasp of tactics, strategy, preventive maintenance, or the ability to fix things that are broken, unclog toilets, make scrambled egg's, etc.... All things that need to happen on a spaceship. Even something as silly as making great egg's could make a difference. Maybe the dude who load's ammo is pissed because of the burned egg's and in his foul mood he messes up the next reload. Or the ships smells like a urinal since few of the facilities work when they don't have the parts they need (logistics) making people perform poorly.
Even in something like Ender's Game, the hero may be a military genius, but he lacks in other features, and performs best with a trusted cadre of assistants. It's just an optional way for people to invest a little more in the game. Heck, even things like Research and production could be brought in. The better staff you have in your employ, the faster things get made, or the chance for a critical success. |
