Hi,
After 7 months of playing Eve I still consider myself new to the game, and I've always been a peaceful player, joining corps mainly for the best mining fleet abilities and activity. Only killing NPC Rats and gradually working my way up to fly an Orca. Recently I managed to acquire a Megathron, and such a beautiful ship it is I decided to do a few missions and build up PvE skills.. Then I thought PvP skills would be good so I set about finding some fun, inviting some fellow pilots to a few duels. After all, a pilot has the option to decline if they are not up for the challenge. (my weapons skilling isn't really that great, as I have focused on mining since day 1)
After challenging a few ships to a duel, a pilot accepted, it was a Catalyst. In hind sight, I am now wondering whether my next move was a bit unfair, as I released 5 Hammerhead II's who made light work on the Catalyst.
I now know this chap is only in his 3rd week of the game, and didn't really know what he was doing when he accepted the dual, and what makes it even worse is that he had a 'Proof of Discovery' Gass Pass in his ship that is key to one of the missions which he now doesn't have (I did not salvage his ship or blow up his capsule, technically he could have returned to the site I pick it up).
The guy sent me a very strong worded email about his predicament, and I think that I may have been a bit of a cake in challenging someone who, to all intents and purposes, could have been brand new to the game and not know what they are doing.
Therefore, is there anyway that I can acquire another copy of this early missions Proofof Discovery, or is this mission now impossible for him? I want to be able to fix this.
Any help much appreciated, Pebbles |

Tell him that he can petition for a mission reset. F12 -> support tickets. File one under Mission in Progress and ask for a reset.
If you feel bad, also take the time to explain the 'duel' system to him, how it gets abused, etc. |

If you feel bad, also take the time to explain the 'duel' system to him, how it gets abused, etc. This. You can also reimburse him for the loss of the ship and mods. In case he doesn't know it, there's also an option in the Esc menu to have the client automatically decline 'Duel' requests.
Besides the Support Ticket (petition), there's also other Career Agents available as well. Each of the 4 main Factions have 15 Career Agents each, that's 5 agents per group, 3 groups per Faction.

I have no idea what the Proof of Discovery item is or how to get it, but if his character is 3 weeks old, you should be able to make and alt and get the same missio/item, and give it to him.
Maybe give it to him by contract in a low-sec system, and gank him when he comes to pick it up :) I'm a relatively respectable citizen. Multiple felon perhaps, but certainly not dangerous. |

You could probably find one through contracts. Do a search.
btw, some of the best friendships in EVE come after one has destroyed another's ship.

It's kind that you want to fix it, but the exact moment that he clicked "accept" for that duel was the moment that he accepted all responsibility for everything that happened to him in that duel. You didn't gank him, he knowingly got into a fight with you that he could have avoided. Got into a fight with valuables in his cargo hold.
Personally I would not fix it, you are teaching him a valuable lesson and if you do fix the problem for him you may well be setting him up for a lot of disappointment with the way the rest of EVE, and it's players, tend to work. Tell him to petition, and re-do the mission himself, and YOU, don't feel guilty because someone accepted your duel and you killed them. Well done, I say.
EDIT: The appropriate response to his "strongly worded email" would be to have harvested those tears of his, bathe in them and tell him to HTFU. Gentlemen you can't fight in here, this is the War Room! |

It's cool and all how you feel badly about schooling this newer player in a duel. But trust me if you play this game enuf, you're going to get ganked hard with no lube most likely more than a few times. And you'll look back on this, and maybe think different about it. You got somebody, now wait for your turn to be somebody else's target. Bringing WAR and TERROR to a system near you.... |

The proof of discovery passes are from tutorial missions. I'm pretty sure I have one stuck in a hanger somewhere. When I was younger (and 1M isk seemed like a great fortune) I did all the racial tutorial missions so I could get a set of racial ships. |

It's my impression that most every fight in Eve is unfair to someone. Losing your first ship is like getting a scratch on your new car -- you don't worry about it so much any more.
If you're not out to collect tears, then throw some isk and advice his way. Wouldn't take much isk to make his day.
And congrats on breaking out of pure mining and risking your ship! |

Assuming tha it doesn't matter where the lost item comes from, start a trial alt and run the same tutorial mission. then give him the item. |
