Well whatever your job it must not involve people. Because people complain. They would complain about the sun until it went away and they all died if they could. So saying you'd like to remove everyone who complains from being able to play the game is like saying you'd rather play a single player game. Which people make, some good space ones even. Look them up.

1) Remove the learning skills, add 10 to everyones base attributes and let everyone redistribute learning skill points.
2) Remove bookmarks and let jumps be right on target as a temporary solution - and put a dev or two onto the task of finding a better solution and making warpbubbling a wider option.
3) Order that the UI/menu tree be given a MAJOR overhaul. Open P6P just to set a system target? Please...

Edited by: Gordan Freeman on 23/03/2006 00:29:09 Make CCP pay more attention to US! There paying subscribers and fix the HUGE bugs that we currently have. We are your priority not the 5000000000 potential clients. Its common service edicate. Although it seems that the chat window bug has FINALLY been fixed there are still huge problems that needs fixing. Just what I think about the current CCP situation. Iv only been playing for a year and a quarter so I dont know what it was like with the old devs but I cant say I have been impressed with the pettetions I decide to file because I know how they usally turn out. I would do four things:
First, I would double artillery clip sizes.
Second, I would increase the damage mod on all of the top tier autocannons by about 5%, thus making them worth fitting (current DPS of top-tier autos is roughly equal to that of the middle-tier).
Third, I would fix the insta bookmark problem with the following system:
Remove all bookmarks within 120km of gates and stations and make it impossible for new ones to be made.
Implement a new "warp to by class" system, where the minimum warp-in distance scales by the size of the ship, causing all ships to be vulnerable at some point in their travel, while avoiding a massive increase in travel time. With instas, larger ships are already vulnerable while aligning for warp, but smaller ships are impossible to kill without a bubble, and this system would fix that:
Frigate: minimum warp-in distance 16km
Destroyer: 12km
Cruiser: 8km
Battlecruiser: 4km
Battleship: 0km
With this system, the smaller ships would be vulnerable while approaching the gate, the larger ships would be vulnerable after jumping (as they currently are), and the mid-sized ships would be vulnerable for a more limited time on either side.
Hand in hand with the insta change, I would add a stacking penalty to nanofibers and intertial stabilizers to prevent insta-warping battleships. -Wrayeth

I'd create EVE Offline. It'd be the EVE universe, inhabited by agents and NPC rats, complexes, etc.. But it would have a simulated market, and it's enable me to play without having to deal with other players. I'm not gregarious, so I get nothing from gangs or corps, and only really play because it's the nearest thing there is to Elite at the moment. It'd be nice to think the person who just killed me wasn't doing it because they wanted to **** me off, so much as because it was what they were programmed to do.
EVE Offline: At least one customer right here. |

Add 2x the systems you have today. 4) Add more toys to play with (You allrdy do that fine) 5) Make is possible to approve items. Like boosting attributes for a high cost ofcause in isk/materiels 6) A eve bar to get drink in 7) Lower the requirement for POS in highspace (yes I am a carebaer)

If I were a developer of this game I would fix the local chat bug, that bug that causes a person to not be able to see what's being said in local.
I would also create 4 new destroyers and 4 new battleships, one for each race. The Caldari battleship will have a railgun bonus, the Gallente one will have a sensor dampener bonus. The destroyers would have bonuses to their races enemey's ally's resistances. The Gallente one would have more drones, the caldari one would have more missiles.
The bounty system would be overhauled. My system would be anyone can be bountied, but positive sec characters would have to be bountied from stations in low sec or 0.0, negative sec characters could be bountied from any station. Bounties would start at 1,000,000 isk and have to be increased in 1,000,000 isk or more increments. People would lose skillpoints if they were podded with a bounty on their head, but not as many skillpoints as they would lose with an out of date clone. People can see who bountied them, and bounties can be forgiven. If a person who has placed a bounty changes his mind, they can retract the bounty they placed.
Starbase refitting arrays could also be used to recharge cap.
sentry guns in low sec would be removed. Instead navy ships would patrol the gates. 0.4 would have heavy standing patrols with many good ships (EW, webifing, long range, and pure damage) 0.1 would probably be staffed with just a few frigates when nothing is going on. No gate would start with warp jamming naval vessels. The navy ships would fire on gankers, as gankers keep ganking more and better navy ships would spawn until the gankers are killed or forced to leave.
The war system may need revision, I don't know what I would do to it.

1: DO a Character wipe. 2: Fix the memory leak. 3: Upgrade server equipment. 4: Fix Destroyers.
Because of the Character wipe, I would start everyone out at 1.2mil SP to spend where they like and give them all 30mil ISK.

Introduce a backstory dealing with the current ship design, and overhaul them to make them easier on the eyes.
Change nearly every system name so they would be easy to speak, type, spell, and remember. Eiluvodi? Sotrenzur? Katugumur? Damn.

Originally by: Rivek What would you change?
From my back of a napkin list I would:
Eliminate instajump/dock bookmarks completely.
Change closest warp in range to 7.5 kilometers, ending randomly around the target point at that range.
Make all ships in Eve twice as responsive to control inputs (reduce mass/inertia) allowing for more interesting and fast paced combat and reducing target approach times and travel times.
Double the range on all warp disruptors and or scramblers.
Introduce a longer ranged, lower effect webbifier. Nerf normal webs signficantly in their effect.
Make warp core stabilizers harder to fit into combat fittings.... somehow.
Make basic insurance 0% payout.
Make insurance rates increase if the applicant has a history of frequent claims (pvpers), and decrease if they have a history of no claims (miners in empire).
Seed T2 bpos into the npc market at very high prices (demand responsive market ftw).
Allow for war declarations against individuals within npc corps. Moving subsequently to a player corp or alliance extends the war to that entity.
Institute higher market taxes within high sec empire. Have minimal market taxes within low sec empire. Have no market taxes within unclaimed 0.0 space. Allow alliances with sovereignty over a portion of 0.0 to add market taxes in their systems.
Change escrow fees to 1.5% (minus skill bonuses) of the asking price on the item being escrowed.
Double the copy time on blueprints. Change the color of blueprint copies to something other than that of blueprint originals.
Introduce POS style structures that can continually produce wealth of some sort (minerals?) at a very modest rate, but are only allowed in 0.0, are fairly easy to kill (500k hp?), and require no fuel or other maintenence (solar powered!).
Cut the scan time on scan probes by a huge factor like 10x, simultaneously making them properly find things within their spherical range, and requiring only 2 probes(instead of 3) within range of a target to find it. Real world triangulation is the use of two points with known angles and distances between them to find a third, like estimating the distance to a star or galaxy from earth.
Move level 4 kill missions entirely out of high sec empire... how did those 10,000 serpentis BS get past concord again?
Completely eliminate the drops of basic or standard tech1 modules from npcs.
There are many more changes I can't recall this moment...
Wow I'm glad your not a lead developer lol... I think your list would destroy Eve-Online in one fell swope. We would have to change it to Getganked-Online.

It's not angles, it's response times if I remember correctly, or rather lag from the tim the sat says it is and what you read it as.
Imagine it like this, the two spheres intersect, giving you a circle (think of two bubbles stuck together. This gives an entire circle of which you could be at any given point. You need a third bubble to reduce the circle down to a point. RABBLE RABBLE RABBLE!!!

i keep insta i think every alliance and pvper will agree with me, there is always the otherside of the gate to catch them, instas will increase response time to attack, so i want them there, get rid of them alot of peeps will quit and i would. i travle enough going after cans in belts or getting to a sniping spot. only gate campers hate them but they always forget GATES WORK BOTH WAYS JUMP IN AFTER THEM.
if i was a dev, i would make it that you can name systems that you have savrignty over. unerf missiles a little bit so you have a chane on ACTUALLY killing a frig like the rest of the gun ships can. and create defences like defenders against turret hoes like mirrors for lasers heheheheh.
but that aint being relistic just slightly unerf missiles cruise mainly torps are for bs's and should stay like they are

You don't think there might be another viable solution? Should we give up on cars because fossil fuels are a difficulty now? Or shouldn't a viable replacement of some sort be acceptable?
Instas IN THEIR CURRENT FORM, must go. But that's not to say that something module based or even ingrained into every ship couldn't replace it. A dozen good ideas out there, a few hundred bad ones. But I've seen ideal systems like J0sephines and support them and ideas with less glamour but more ease of implementation like mine. I think it's down to what they pick.
Standing on the side of the fence that says keep bookmarks is like picketing for keeping fossil fuels. Even if you win, we're all gonna lose. So you might as well either be open or supportive of something else.

I agree in alot of ways but in some I disagree. Eve's success is in large part due to the community and developer relationship. Euphoria I don't believe occurs in a relationship, there has to be some degree of strife, it's how it is handled that differs human nature from human capability to accept and reason with issues. I'd like to see less selfish complaints and extremely opinionated posts on the forums but I wouldn't give up 1 meaningful discussion thread on improving eve's challenge and depth for a dozen blatant flames to dissappear.

Shouldn't be. It's simple enough. You find me an offline game that's as Elite-ish as this, with decent graphics, and a complex trade model, and which doesn't try to impose some square-jawed craggy hero character on me, along with a storyline that I don't much care about, and that consists of more than about twelve systems to explore and I'll go play it.
What I'd really like is for someone to remake FFE with modern graphics and sound effects. But they don't seem to want to. |
