So now I need a ship able to fly in high-sec space what means nothing with jump-drive propulsion is on the table. Therefore the largest vessels in my present reach are Marauders.
In EVE, ships are tools for jobs, not a 'set of gear' you always use until you get better pieces.
Those ships you mention (Dreads and Carriers) are absolutely the best ships for specific things (destroying player structures for Dreads and repairing damage your allies have taken for Carriers), but they are downright worthless at others. Dreads in particular are dead meat if they are caught without allies, even if they are caught by a single 25 million ISK Interceptor.
Think a $200 power drill - it's an amazingly useful tool, but it's absolutely worthless to you when what you really need is a $2 torch.
I don't own a Dreadnought but if I did, I would not use it for anything other than shooting player structures or certain sites in wormhole space. Every time I wanted to do something else, I'd pull out a different tool - usually cruiser sized or smaller so that I can actually get around fast. https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=238931 - an idea for a new form of hybrid PVE/PVP content. EVE's golden rule: Never trust anyone in-game unless you are sleeping with them in real life. Even then, they may only be screwing you to screw you. |

As others have said in this thread, I can't recommend this... Its Just a very expensive loss mail in the making. That being said you can only play the game the way you find fun and if this course will be fun for you, by all means do so. Just be sure to do your research so you know what you are getting into.

Almost seems so absurd it makes me wonder if this is some kind of alt account joke/troll.
But if for real...
The first T2 frigate I skilled for I still fly often. I can do things with it that no other ship in the game can do. True, I tend to dump some 250m isk into building one now, into a T2 frigate, but that's the perks of being a vet player and knowing how this game works... well some of it anyway hehe, my portion of it. And in doing so, If I were to hire/contract out my services, my clients could potentially be making 500m-1billion isk an hour. Bigger doesn't mean better, and I can do the same thing with a three month old account with that T2 Frig even as I do now. GÇö+¬GÇö |

The most important thing to know about ships in eve is that they are tools for a job, and different tools are good at different jobs.
Unlike some competing MMO's, where one set of equipment is by definition better then another and you only ever use one set at a time and upgrade it as soon as you can, eve's ships exist on a plane of different strengths and weaknesses. All are desirable, it just depends on what you are doing.
Most players will own dozens of ships and swap between them as needed, in addition to buying ships for one-off jobs and selling them once done. You may be surprised at how often veterans fly ships you might consider weak.
I strongly recommend against simply buying an older character from the character bazaar right off the bat. You will find that without basic knowledge of game mechanics, simply buying characters that can use powerful ships will not make you powerful, and you risk losing large amounts of ISK on basic mistakes because you are learning the game on high end ships rather then entry-level ones.
If you do wish to pursue purchasing a pre-trained character from another player, I would suggest that before you do so you should play your trial for the full two weeks first. Do all the tutorials, especially the combat ones, and then do the sisters of eve epic arc.
This will give you some combat experience and help hone your understanding of eves flight mechanics. |

Don't, don't, don't.
You're just wasting your money (and you'll need to use real world money to buy enough ISK to buy a character). Play the game, do the tutorials, learn how things in the game really work (marauders are a niche ship, like many of the others you've listed), see what you enjoy doing by doing it. If, in a couple of months you want to buy a character, then spend the money.
Marauders are not an 'I win' button. No ship in EVE is. Bigger is not better, ships are tools used for a purpose. |

Nah, he fixed his post after I mentioned that there were no black ops "cruisers". If he were a troll-alt he would have left it for kicks, as intentional. So I think he is on the level, just brainwashed by WoW thinking and all it's clones hah. *grabs some popcorn* where will the thread go next...

This thread will go with me asking another question.. Haha!
Well, I got the idea about ships and all already and I already have an idea where to go with it. But I read this thread and realized something - I know EVE is huge! And to have different ships doing different tasks, my ships will probably end up all over the Universe!
For example I need a Interceptor to do some PVP. Then I want to run some Missions and my BC, Cruiser is maybe 15 jumps away. After that my say, BS is another 15 jumps away and I need it maybe to fight in a fleet. How would you all recommend me to do it faster?
I read about jump clones but I'm not exactly sure if I interpret it correctly. Or do I have to do the jump all the way to get the ship I want thing? |

Maybe ask your questions in a new thread with a relevant title? More likely to get answers that way than burying your question 2 pages deep in a completely unrelated thread. |

Kayla, it is a bad idea to post a brand new question inside a running thread, which topic is a different question.
But to say something about this short: This is one of the biggest bad things in EvE. You need to move your ships from one place to another with many, many jumps. Or deposit a jump clone and a special set of ships at different places. Set up a courier contract with your ships and modules to move to another place. And hope someone like to fill the contract and haul your items in a senseful time frame...

No need to be buying anything yet.
You will probably get a handout for obliquely asking on the forums (-1 for that), I'd encourage you to also do the tutorials. The EVE user interface (UI) is not intuitive.
There is a tremendous amount of literature about the game and a bunch of posts in the Warfare & Tactics or Missioning sub-forums that can give you advice on ships. |

A new player going to the Character Bazaar and buying a high-level pilot character and a high-skill ship is about as sensible as someone who just got his driving license buying a Formula 1 racer and expecting to be able to effectively compete in a Grand Prix race.
To put it more simply: don't.
The skill progression queue is there for a reason. You learn the basics in small, affordable, easily-replaceable ships, and graduate to heavier hitters bit by bit. If you take out a ship without understanding the fundamentals of how it does what it does, knowing its strengths and weaknesses, and how to exploit the former and mitigate the latter, the most likely result is that your hideously expensive ship and your ludicrously expensive character will get torn to pieces in your first engagement.
Oh, and any corporation worth its salt will ask not what equipment you've got in your hangar, but what skills you can bring to bear. And they won't necessarily be skills you can find in the skill sheet, either. I remember the Ferraris, but not the buying-CCP thing. Then again, somebody with more money than sense buying a Ferrari is probably the cause of more wrecked Ferraris than anything else... Maybe...perhaps....because you clearly dont listen to good advice or at least dont show that in the replies (the latter one can of course be the case as written talext stuff always lacks the non-verbal and underlying emotional stuff and thus can easily be misinterpreted).
Why people react like it...because its just the general troll that tries the same. To use a real example, when you just get into car racing you dont immediately jump into Formula 1. I boarded EVE on-line a hour ago and now I have only capsule. I'd like to purchase far better starship but I am not sure which one is best suited for me. I prefer combat career in the EVE Universe so I am looking for combat spaceships. After reading Evelopedia several classes are close to my wishes: Recon Cruisers, Heavy Assault Cruisers, Strategic Cruisers, Marauders, Black Ops Cruisers, Dreads and Carriers. What class could you advice me to purchase? Coming in late, but, why did/do you only have a capsule? There's a bald lady with a soothing voice to tell you how to get a rookie ship right when you load up the game. You're not going to learn anything by reading about how awesome strategic cruisers are and not bothering to learn how to fly a frigate. Yeah, I'm just repeating what everyone else has said, I know. |

I keep ships in the areas I anticipate using them.
If I would use the same fit in more than one place - I just get more than one of that ship, because I'm not silly enough to fly anything overly expensive.

That's why I do not want to fly capital ships outside high-sec space. I only aim to buy warships capable to stay in high-sec space all the time. Anyway:

Yes the Machariel is a good ship. However, you need to train for the smaller stuff first. That way you have the right support skill to fly it. And a Machariel alone is near 1Bil isk. Not including the modules. |
