Are there a limited number of missions at each level? Using the same agent they seem to come around again every 10 missions or so. Changing agents in the local area brings up the same missions. Would I get different ones if I moved further away or used different corporation agents? I'm not yet equipped/skilled for the next level up.
Any help or pointers would be very appreciated.

The NPCs will change if you move to another region, other than that they're fairly limited. They can however be a good giggle if you get together with a couple of friends and run them as a fleet in unsuitable or underpowered ships :D. |

There is a (very) limited amount of missions in EVE. So yes, it isn't uncommon for missions to repeat themself (hence why most veterans will say that running missions as prime plaything can become boring as you can "master" the missions easily and do them without thinking eventually).
Also, certain agents only pick certain missions out of the mission pool because of game lore etc.
Missions can also slightly differ from where you run them, each region in EVE has their native NPCs and each faction (Caldari, Amarr, Gallente and Minmatar) have their own "personal" pirate faction(s) they are fighting against. Missions can be affected by these things.
For instance:
You have both Angel Extravaganza and Guristas Extravaganza. Both are the same type of mission just with different NPCs in it.
People prefer the Angel version though because of a chance of Faction loot. Want to have some chat in game? Need help to get into the game as a new player? Just join my channel: Crazy Dutch Guy |

Keep in mind that missions are intended to be an ISK faucet to support a PvP lifestyle.
If you are looking for engaging PvE, you will have a hard time finding it in EVE. |

Agreed.
EVE has decent PvE, but it isn't the core activity of the game. Want to have some chat in game? Need help to get into the game as a new player? Just join my channel: Crazy Dutch Guy |

Thanks for the replies. They confirm my impression so far.
Kitty Bear - that's a useful list. I recognise many of the missions. Is there any way to see which agents can give the listed missions so that I can seek them out?

Hmm not really no.
The 'eve lore' behind the factions, is Amar are loosely allied with Caldari, Gallente with the Minmatar. Amarrian agents will offer the 'kill these Minmatar' missions, but you are usually unlikely to see those offers with a Caldari agent. Gallente agents will offer 'kill these Caldari' whilst a Minmatar agent is unlikely too.
similarly if you are wanting specific pirate faction missions, such as Angel Extravaganza, then you need an Empire agent of the faction that is opposed to that pirate faction (this isn't guaranteed as there is a reasonable amount of variance, but it is a general thing). Caldari - Guristas Gallente - Serpentis Minmatar - Angel Amarr - Blood Raiders Everyone - Sansha
