I've been playing EVE for 2 months now. I cannot make money. I've made enough to start my destroyer with T2 weaponry but I never have enough to buy a cruiser. Just wanted some advice from the full time fighters out there on how to survive in EVE. Please don't give up your trade secrets (unless you're really nice)
Thanks all.

In PVE its very easy. You make money both of off the Bounties from most NPC's and the salvage drops can be very profitable, even if its junk salvage you can recycle it for the minerals. Where you find the NPC's is of course up to the player, but general belt NPC's and high end complexes are best but mission agents work well to.
For PVP its mixed... PVP is more of a money loser, but is very fun and allows semi-control of low sec areas.

well! killing NPCs gets you cash in 2 ways: 1) bounties (0.0 or L4 missions have NPCs worth millions each to kill) 2) loot (even if its bad loot collect in and refine it into minerals, which can either be sold, or made into something else - ammo, additional ships, etc)
or do you mean fighters like PvP only guys? well most still kill the occasional NPC but.... Players can drop the nicest loot :) pop enough and you'l see what I mean. where else can you loot a rack of 6 T2 siege launchers? :P
I will save you, but make sure you bring beer - Wrangler and cAKe - Imaran I thought it was bREe, omgi'mgivingawaymodroomsecwetsftl - Cortes when come back ... bring PIE. Me like PIE. -Capsicum |

I assume you mean pure PvP fighters?
They either have industrial/mining alts to support them, corporations that support combat divisions or they make isk picking up their kills loot cans.
of course I can't imagine a combat oriented player who doesn't do missions, kill npc rats in belts and/or complexes at least occasionaly.

I think the fastest way to make money is to go down to 0.0 and kill NPC rats in the belts.
Just make sure you can get in and out of 0.0 without being destroyed, and make sure you can survive encounters with big belt rats.
There's nothing like taking a few minutes to blow up a pair of NPC battleships with 1,000,000 isk bounties each to pad your wallet! -----

Thanks for all the suggestions so far.
For clarification:
I'm mainly referring to PvE because I know I'm not ready for PvP, although I am building up to it.
Thanks all!

Can only agree with above posters: collect ALL loot and sell it. Even if you sell below 100% market value, you still get money :)
Another "secret" I just discovered: DED complexes. In my Tristan (with 2 weeks played) I had no trouble doing a 3/10 rated rogue drone complex, so you should be fine doing those. The alloys the drones drop, and other loot make these trips really worthwhile (one such trip equals ~ 4-5 lvl 1 agent missions for me).

a couple of questions for you: 1) when you take damage - armour/structure do you repair it your self? or go to a station and click on the repair button? -If you click on that button in station it costs you money
Definitely try to repair on my own. Just learned armor tanking ( i have been shield tanking, which is a mistake for a Gallente) so that may increase my chances in battle.
Quote: 2) do you collect and check each and every can out there? couple of reasons for this: a) sometimes theres a REALLY juicy piece of loot...sometimes dropped by the weakest of enemies b) collect it all and refine it!
Definitely a must.
Quote: 3) Where have you been NPC hunting? 0.8? 0.6? level 1 missions? complexes? the lower the sec status the bigger, nastier, and more profitable the npcs the higher the mission level the bigger, nastier and more profitable the npcs. and the mission rewards are higher. and there are more npcs the higher the vomplex number the more and better the npcs and rewards in the overseer cans. - complexes have a steep learning curve on some of them. so try 2/10s or maybe a 3/10
Just started L2 missions but in 0.8 and 0.9. Guess i need a low sec system instead. Where can I find the complexes? Are they in low sec as well?

Use the map, there's a setting under "stars" which shows DED complexes. At first I didn't like the map, but as I get more experience with it I start to like many of its features :)

I have to reiterate this. The EXACT same thing happened to me. After playing for a couple of weeks never breaking 750k isk, I did a 3/10 DED complex in my Tristan and scored myself about 1.1 mil between loot & bounties. It took me about an hour, and I did the same thing the next day on my lunch at work.
Make sure you loot all the cans. There was one piece of loot worth 600k, and another worth 150.

Yeah, but once he gets a Vexor, he can do it. As a 3 month-old, I was taking down dual 1mill+ ISK BS spawns in a 0.0 system with a true security status of -0.3 in a Vexor once I could use heavy drones (you need Drones 5). I was using 1600mm plate and tanking the damage while the drones dealt the damage.

I've been playing a little over 2 weeks and am sitting on 16mil in my wallet after dropping 500k into my corps' fund. I'm flying a Caracal with pretty nice fittings including full rack of 5 malkuth heavie's and a Badger docked in a hangar somewhere. I pulled 2 pieces of Dread loot in .4 belts that sold for 10mil and 5mil respectively. Although getting PK'd this weekend set me back about 5mil. Aside from the awesome drops though I've still managed to make about 10mil just hunting rats and doing lvl 2 missions. Isk is incredibly easy to make. I have full time job and wife w/2 kids so It's not like I'm on Eve 24/7. Good luck and just keep at it

I know some PVP corps:
They took over a low security system next to/near a high security system. Then they charge people to mine/do ops in that system! A toll-service.
Use decent prices though or the corps that want to do stuff in "your" system will risk fighting you if they think you're a ripoff. Good business = keeping customers happy. People in high security (who live ther) understand that low security is risky...but if they can PAY FOR SECURITY they WILL, if it does not hurt their profits too much.
If your prices are too high, they will either ignore you and try to work around your threats, or they'll just not go there anyways. Either way you've lost some customers.
But if they try coming down there you can always blow them up and hope you get good loot =P
The toll business seems like the best "evil" business.
Miner "You don't own this system though! I'm not going to pay you! You don't have the right to do this!" Ebil Pie-rat "Well my guns say you should pay me or lose your ship"

Kee, if you've been playing for 2 months and still can't afford a cruiser, I think you must be doing something wrong. If you're running missions then you've got to be earning money -- where does it all go? What are you spending your cash on?

I have an industrial alt. He owns a number of BPO's which keep me in ships.
Also requires very little effort, but you do need the initial ISK to make the investment in BPO's. I found NPCing in 0.0 was the best way to get this.
