CCP seems to be bent on making a player intrigue sandbox breakthrough on console. I do like the idea, seems like the right direction.
Dust 514 (which is a pay to win game btw, economical warfare won by buying equipment) flopped, but either WoD or EVR might succeed in the future. Now to think of it, vampires would sell to console audience in a large manner. |

*pinches the bridge of his nose* I really hate repeating myself... but here I go again...
1) Do you work for CCP? if no go to number 2
2) Do you have access to ccp's financials? if no go to number three
3) are you ccp's CEO or head of dust development?
If you answered no to any of this, then you are talking out of your ass when it comes to dust.
As I have also said, if you don't like it, then don't play it, just because I think Rocky Horror Picture Show even life is crap, doesn't mean that its a failure, clearly its not. As I have also said, Dust could have 1k active players, but if each of them forks out $100 a month playing, that's 100k a month or 1.2m a year. So it depends on what a failure is. And besides who cares? This thread is about Valkyrie, which is a totally different game. And if they do free to play then so be it, but it sounds like they will only do that if its tied to the rift, i.e. you buy a rift, you get Valkyrie |

Thing is with more and more work required to allow the game to work with multiple consoles at the same time at once and going past different servers means more work and coding.
Micro transactions was the reason Dust wasn't released on 360 or XB1.
Anyhow Oculus Rift only works on PC, and PC gamers hated it when Dust went onto PS3. So why are we complaining about a game we want going onto PC only? If we can run EVE we can run Valkyrie for sure.
Oculus Rift might not be mandatory with Valkyrie but it is preferred since it's the whole reason. Oculus Rift is only really changing the game into 3D and transferring it into a headset and using the Gyro. |

Hardley seems fair to say the game flopped. Do not misunderstand its got alot of work ahead of it but the eve of 2004 is not the eve of 2014 so give it time to grow. Mark my words Valkyrie will be the same way, small matches that are only really connected to eve on the periphery. Hopefully with both Dust and Valkyrie they build the games into what all of them could potentially be. A big ass universe spread across multipul scales. |

Nice find, except that it doesn't state dust details. seems ccp run at a loss last year, but that makes sense, esp with the launch of dust, prolly spent a lot of money on ads. |

I dont understand some of the hate. While I realize that RIFT may be cost prohibitive at launch for some, from all points considered, this device looks to FINALLY be a gaint step in the realization of VR gaming. I cant speak for everyone, but I know that I have been waiting over a decade since the last industry fail-scade into VR. (I dont remember the companies or models, but it was featured in PC Gamer way back when.) Bottom line, ill get the headset, and ill definitely get the game. Yes, I am hoping that the game will have EVE-integration, but ill settle for something that is FUN, which many people seem to have lost track of that as the determining factor in playing a game. Just my two cents. Killboard

The last big failure in the VR world was the Virtual boy which was actually made by Nintendo. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virtual_Boy . I for one can say I look forward to the rift launching and hopefully getting widespread adaption. The only issues I can see in the rift are the MUCH higher than normal response time of the screens (20~30 ms) and the size/bulk of the device. I believe the higher response time is due to them using cheaper display panels which quite honestly is ok. In something so close to your eyes and so gamer focused, I think that Twisted Nematic (TN) panels would be one of the best options. TN panels were among the first consumer LCD panels made, and they are known for their high refresh rate, and cheapness. (color is hit or miss on them, and their viewing angle is ******, but both don't matter as much for something like the rift).
The other issue I see with the rift is how widespread it's adaption will be. There will always be the initial group that will buy the rift because it's a neat gadget, a cool idea, but what will REALLY drive Rift sales is the support it gets. The more games people want to play that support the rift, the more people will buy the rift. It's simple as that, and CCP is helping the rift achieve it's "critical mass" so to speak by creating content to justify the rift's existence. If enough games support the rift to get enough people to buy the device, more and more developers will include rift functionality and it will cascade into becoming a common component for gaming, Let's all hope the rift does not flop, because playing valk was awesome even with the old buggy bad version of the rift (pre-crystal cove). |

Since the Crystal Cove prototype the Rift has had OLED screens with pretty much instant switching times. OLED screens can have refresh rates in the many thousands/sec with switching time around 0.01ms.

300 us dollars for the O.R. dev kit now. I would say around 200 us dollars on release date. To me with all I have heard it can do now sounds reasonable. Many other games, mostly indie, already have support for it.
About micro transactions. I don't think grinding for in game currency would fit the game very well. My view is that it is a very fast pace game and I'm not sure my eyes would stick with me for long if I wore the O.R. for more than a hour or two at a time. So having the option to buy my items in a free to play game wouldn't bother me as long as the game doesn't push it on me like say Warframe. |

Sigh.
I was so looking forward to this. I just found out Occulous is now owned by Facebook. I will hold onto my hopes that the Rift will see continued focus as a gaming device, and not some super expensive viewmaster to stalk people with on the internet or look at photos with (like some press releases from FB are saying...). This is the funniest comment I have ever heard a DEV say in forum about EVE.................. proves you have created your very own personal CCP understanding of the world...... competition and gaming for that matter.
Ummm....... Let's look at this
1) I can buy GTC with RL Money. 2) I can turn said GTC in to Plex. 3) I can trade Plex for in game ISK 4) I can use INSTANT ISK to buy my way around ANY obstacles in this game WITHOUT Exception.
Things I can buy with RL money.
1) Ships, Stations, Influence, Power. 2) Any in game item, anything! Faction, T2 BP,,,,no limit to what is for sale for RL Money. 3) Skill Points (Buy a character in the Bazaar. with 10 years skilling) 4) Experience = Hire Merc's to do my bidding. 5) Time = I don't have to do anything myself, if I throw RL money at this game.
Absolutely Ridiculous statement you've made.
