So people that actually log ingame are hardened a lot more? Just imagine Eve, being what it is, and forums filled with friendly comments. Wouldn't add up, would it? CCP love to see us fight, it seems :D |

Part of it is simple freshman hazing....
Part of it is an automated response to players that don't like the cold harsh universe that is EvE and actively attempt to change it into some happy utopia. This is a dystopia, and that is a major aspect of the game everyone should embrace!

Yeah, this is not a land of sunshine a lollipops, it is a cold harsh place and one needs to grow a thicker skin to be able to survive. Conflict drives this game, and words are one of the ways the conflicts are driven.
Just remember it is only a game and you should not take things personally.
Talk is cheap. Actions speak louder than words, etc, etc. "PvE in EVE is a trap to turn you into PvP content, don't confuse it for actual gameplay." Lipbite |

Because we've seen it all before many times, and those sort of people just don't last in EVE, so we are brutally honest so that they don't waste anymore of their time or ours.
However EVE players are extremely helpful, and even generous, to those that show the right attitude.
Also "HTFU" is an unofficial EVE motto. |

Fair enough.
Plus if everyone kicks sand at players so they leave, we can continue making fun of 'eve is dying' threads.

CCP. Why do you allow people to make useless threads on the forums?

Give it some time OP. You'll understand better when you have more experience under your belt (and have listened to a few whiners on audio). Change isn't bad, but it isn't always good. Sometimes, the oldest and most simple of things can be the most elegant and effective. |

In my 5 years of EVE, I think I've seen one thread where a whiner changed into a winner. |

LOL. Yeah, I knew better than to try this question in that forum. Since it's the money in their pocket, I guess only CCP could give a real answer. I'm new at this game and it's something I haven't seen in any other businesses. I guess it's like a rugby bar where if you're not tough enough to fight your way in you're not going to be happy there.
Or maybe it's the Icelandic culture -- if you're going to complain that it's cold and dark you need to get out now. |

It's CCP's vision to create a MMO that is different then the others. It's also why the playerbase it currently has is playing the game.
If CCP would change the game to be Hello Kitty In Space Online, it would also mean they will lose a fair amount of their current playerbase, some of which have been playing a very long time. This.

Losing that many titans has only happened once in 10 years, it was one fight where more titans have been lost than have previously been lost in the history of the game. It is not the kind of fight that happens "once in a while".
The players that lost the titans would not be estranged by a change in policy on the forums or even in game about "hazing" or otherwise harassing other players: they're not the ones engaging in forum warrioring or newb ganking.

People should be free to say whatever they want. Censoring a player's opinion, even if its negative is going to end up causing a lot more problems than it was ever meant to solve.
Free speech is important for the long term health of any open society, even one as (relatively) small as EvE. |

In short?
Quote:5. Trolling is prohibited.
Trolling is a defined as a post that is deliberately designed for the purpose of angering and insulting other players in an attempt to incite retaliation or an emotional response. Posts of this nature are disruptive, often abusive and do not contribute to the sense of community that CCP promote.
12. Spamming is prohibited.
Spam is defined as the repetitive posting of the same topic or nonsensical post that has no substance and is often designed to annoy other forum users. This can include the words GÇ£firstGÇ¥, GÇ£go back to [insert other game name]GÇ¥ and other such posts that contribute no value to forum discussion. Spamming also includes the posting of ASCII art within a forum post.
22. Post constructively.
Negative feedback can be very useful to further improve EVE Online provided that it is presented in a civil and factual manner. All users are encouraged to honestly express their feelings regarding EVE Online and how it can be improved. Posts that are non-constructive, insulting or in breach of the rules will be deleted regardless of how valid the ideas behind them may be. Users are also reminded that posting with a lack of content also constitutes non-constructive posting.
They do not.
In reality? We ISD CCL are the ones who do most of the enforcement around these parts, and we cannot actually see all threads at the same time. If you happen to find something you think breaks forum rules, or needs a looking at, please report it with the small flag button at the top of the post.
Also, this thread is inappropriate for NC Q&A:
Quote:11. Discussion of forum moderation is prohibited.
The discussion of EVE Online forum moderation actions generally leads to flaming, trolling and baiting of our ISD CCL moderators. As such, this type of discussion is strictly prohibited under the forum rules. If you have questions regarding the actions of a moderator, please file a petition under the Community & Forums Category.
26. Off-topic posting is prohibited.
Off-topic posting is permitted within reason, as sometimes a single comment may color or lighten the tone of discussion. However, excessive posting of off-topic remarks in an attempt to derail a thread may result in the thread being locked, or a forum warning being issued.
So, thread locked. ISD LackOfFaith Lieutenant Community Communication Liaisons (CCLs) Interstellar Services Department @ISD_LackOfFaith on Twitter |
