Can someone explain if there is a principle behind when asteroids respawn? I read somewhere in the forums that it is related to EVE server downtime but when I then visit asteroid belts, they are as empty as before Tranquility was rebooted.

MM The belts always respawn after server reboot. If you are in a 1.0 or 0.9 system it might be that someone is farming them so quickly they get emptied when you fly there.
Also a group of 4 hulks + 1 orca can empty a belt in a couple of minutes (if it is emptied each and every day, like a 1.0 system). |

Also, do you have the asteroids added to your overview? Especially in systems that gets mined a lot (such as career agent systems) the roids can be very small and hard to spot so adding them to the overview will make it easier for you to know instantly what , if any, asteroids are in the belt. As NC said, I'm throwing this on the issue of not having them added to the overview and them being too small to manually spot. Want to have some chat in game? Need help to get into the game as a new player? Just join my channel: Crazy Dutch Guy |

There are some principles behind asteroid respawn rates.
If a belt is cleared out, it will respawn after every downtime.
If a belt is left untouched and undisturbed, more asteroids will spawn and/or respawn as bigger ones (up to a point, which depends on the security status of a system)
If the belts within a certain region are constantly cleared out, then another region's belts will spawn a few more asteroids than usual (to encourage people to move around the map). Change isn't bad, but it isn't always good. Sometimes, the oldest and most simple of things can be the most elegant and effective. |

If you don't see asteroids in the belts "immediately" after downtime, either: a) Leave Caldari space (and especially move further away than 6 jumps from Jita) or b) be aware that downtime is about 5 minutes these days, so if you are logging in after half an hour all the rocks in Caldari hi sec will be gone, most of the rocks near Dodixie, Hek, Rens and Ouralaert will be gone, as will the rocks in certain other high traffic areas.
If you are looking for asteroids to mine, I highly recommend farming level 1 security missions for "Break Their Will". It has the highest volume of Scordite of any mission available, and is easily completed by an industrial pilot (or fleet) with minimal combat skills. This also provides you with a moderate defence by virtue of the mission space being a deadspace, rather than an asteroid belt or ore site that a potential ganker can simply warp to in order to suicide-gank your ship. The potential ganker will have to probe you down, and they will warp in at the deadspace arrival point.
If you are looking for Pyroxeres, farm the L4 missions "The Score" which yields about 1.3M units. This mission provides you with even more protection since attackers are required to probe you down, then use an acceleration gate to arrive at your mining site. You will need a pilot & ship capable of running this mission to clear the first room (of three rooms) for you: it is not easily cleared by industrial pilots with minimal combat skills.
Be aware that mining is the lowest level income from any income-oriented activity in EVE. It is monotonous and boring, and you really should be doing something else.

Conversely, you could look for dead end low sec systems or high sec islands surrounded by low and/or null. Maybe join a null sec or wormhole alliance. If you want to mine. Join the big boys and do it right. |

Thanks for the replies.
Asteroids are enabled in my overview.
On Friday I logged in to EVE about 5 minutes after the server came back. I went to Vylade (.8) where I have found reasonable quantities of plagioclase in the past and there were still no such asteroids there. I am certainly mining my Covetor in the Dodixie area and find that particular mineral to be much rarer than a week previously. Does a belt respawn only when it is completely cleared out of all minerals?
Mining is a bit dull but I get about 8 million ISK an hour - enough to pay for most of my mission combat mistakes. Light relief is when the NPC's turn up. How far down the system security does plagioclase turn up? Is my fleet of 5 assorted L1 drones likely to protect me in .5 systems?
Sorry to keep asking questions.

All normal belts are reset during downtime, pristine / partially mined / mined out...that doesn't matter.
Plagio is common up to -1.0, though the lower the sec status, the less it become in favour of more rarer ores.
5 x T1 Light drones are enough to get rid of rats in a 0.5 system. But it won't help you against gankers, which also target lower high-sec because of CONCORD response times. Want to have some chat in game? Need help to get into the game as a new player? Just join my channel: Crazy Dutch Guy |

I recall reading somewhere that some belts or some ores only respawn two or three times a week. Keep your eyes open, you'll figure it out soon enough.
As for replacing mission losses, you might ask in the Ships & Fittings forum for advice. Show them the ship you're flying now (what modules are in what slots) and be prepared for a lot of ribbing about "doing it wrong" but you will find some people not only showing you a "better" fitting, but explaining why.
The best way of coping with mission losses is to stop losing ships! You will also make more ISK from higher level missions.

Maximus, a lot of the time miners with a lot of alts come out right after down time and mine everything up. Should you need to find a more stable area, fly to Azer in gallente space. Right next door in Cherore there are always plenty of belts. Now should you need a corp to help you with the learning curve please contact me. I can get you into the Ascended fleet, they will help you with your eve career. |
