I am thinking of creating an Industry alt. I mainly PVE right now, and am practicing my PVP. I don't make a ton of money and would like to be able to fir PVP ships well. I am interested in industry, but don't want to train my main since it will take longer for me to fly better ships and fit my ships better. I bought a couple Plex so I can afford to PVP (it is expensive when you suck). But I don't want to keep buying plex, so I figured an alt would be good. I have 3 basic questions.
1-Should I buy a plex to train 2 characters on my account? I know it will take several months, but I could also train a hauler character. Should I do the buddy program or sidekick? Not sure which way to go about it.
2-After I figure out which way is the best, what is a good list of skills to train? Any good sites or links?
3-After I get my skill plan down, when should I start making things? Should I start right away with simple ammo and whatnot? Or wait until my skills are better to reduce waste and things that make more money?
Thanks

1. no opinion
2. There is a good recent list here:
https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=311324&find=unread
Keep in mind that this is a pretty full list and you don't need everything on it. E.g. Rigging IV skills are for building T2 rigs and you only need level 1 for building T1 rigs.
You must get Production Efficiency V. It takes about 8 - 9 days.
3. Soon as you get Prod Eff V you xan start building stuff. In the mean time do some research on what you want to build to start with. Ammo in mission hubs is a sensible start.
Sci. & Ind. isn't going to be be your minimal effort / afk path to riches in the beginning. Like most things in EvE the more effort in understanding and thought you put into something the easier it gets. |

1. Depends on whether you plan to keep training that char or not. If you do, the buddy account is a good idea, if not (and training an industry alt takes about 1 month for T1, and an additional 1-2 months for T2 and invention) buying plexes is imho the better solution. That's what I did.
2. What voetius linked is a good start, but don't forget trade skills for selling your manufactured goods, you will need those too, as brokers fees and taxes cut into your profit a lot if you don't.
3. I'd say modules for the beginning. Ammo is kind of meh, but it sells good. Ships are, as voetius said, something to avoid at the beginning, especially frigates. Otherwise, study the market. |

PI is good as a relatively passive income too, your alt would need the basic PI skills and the ability to run safely through low-sec (so cloaky hauler like Viator, or good nerves and cheap ships). You would need low-sec planets for extraction of raw materials as the hi-sec ones won't have the yields you need.
I like PI as you can choose how much interaction to have. You can set up to have almost completely passive planets that run extractions for weeks at a time and you collect once every week or two, or you can run through your colony set-ups each day to optimize the extraction for greatest profits.
Note: you don't need to actually go to the planets other than to collect goods once you have laid down the initial Command Centre. Anything else can be done remotely |

The advice everyone gave you is great.
One thing you need to understand though. It takes money to make money. So having an industry alt is good and all, but it's a fairly slow process that you may not end up enjoying.
If you enjoy that sort of stuff though, I wish you the best of luck. |

dual char training isn't a bad option. You can get an alt with the basic skills to run multiple research/copy jobs and multiple t1 manufacturing jobs with production efficiency 5 in the space of one PLEX's worth of training. However, if you want to mine at all, if you want the alt to be combat capable, or a scout, or have standings and do trading, or do PI, or expand science skills to do invention, or R&D agents, all of those things require additional SP, and may encourage getting a second account. With just a month or two of training, its still an alt. If you put the alt on the same account and decide you like S&I, you may end up training the more advanced stuff on your main, and keep the alt for its copy/build slots. Or you can move the alt to its own account (not free) later, once you make that decision.
After you knock out the first two weeks of training, the first thing you should do is get some cheapish BPOs in research. "CCP is changing policy, and has asked that we discontinue the bonus credit program after November 7th. So until then, enjoy a super-bonus of 1B Blink Credit for each 60-day GTC you buy!"
Never forget. |
