The problem persists for me after today's patch. Still can't get to character selection screen.
ATI Radeon HD 3650, Ubuntu 12.04 LTS, wine 1.4
Everything was working perfectly two days ago.

I noticed that changing Shader Quality mode changes flicker behaviour, like in High quality station enviroment vanish or start flicker, but neocom becomes look better. Maybe we can find some solution to override problem on wine side? As it look like not very productive to sit and wait for it. |

Indeed. Some are looking for solution. But, the reason of this thread is not to find a solution, but to show to CCP that we need a solution. All GNU/Linux users are not programmers, engineer, what else, but just end-users. If you have a solution, please, gives it !

Same problem here - posted a Bug Report just after the 1.1.4 Patch was applied.
I have taken the following steps trying to resolve the problem:
Full Power-Cycle Clear all Cache Files Running the repair.exe Tool Removing the CCP folder under Local Settings Upgrading to the latest Nvidia Driver (NVIDIA-Linux-x86-331.38 32-Bit) Removing the CCP folder under Local Settings (again).
But nothing of the above has fixed the problem.

I have the sensation that this could be a good initial point for chasing the problem. Any idea on wich d3d dll operate eventually in wine configuration to workaround the glitching? |

I've noticed that on max detail the in-station environment is loaded almost ideal...until you hover the neocom :) then neocom starts to blink, but stop if you hover out. Gonna try lowering shader quality to see if it's the reason. But i'm not expecting to see anything better :)

Since the game is forced into DirectX 9, I assume the D3D dll is from DX9. I'm not sure if you can override it to native, but I have a Windows XP VM that I can pull it from to test if needed.
Also, a get spammed with "fixme:d3d:resource_check_usage Unhandled usage flags 0x8."
To me, it's looking like a wine issue. Can someone with an older version of wine and on different distros test this? Maybe we need to talk to WineHQ about it. |

Adding another +1. Debian Testing, Wine 1.6, Open-Source Radeon drivers. Everything worked great up until the 1.1.4 patch.
Along with the flickering, my ship UI panel is all sorts of bork. I swear I didn't fit Neocom items to my ship, officer! http://i.imgur.com/tLyfIMx.jpg |

wine 1.7.11, catalyst 13.11 beta6
following things did not help:
- turning off desktop compositing - clearing cache and settings - running Eve in fullscreen mode - running Eve in an emulated desktop - removing dll overrides - changing emulated windows version - new wine prefix - setting the DirectDraw renderer to "gdi" - setting AlwaysOffscreen to "disabled" - setting OffscreenRenderingMode to "backbuffer"
I did however notice that Eve apparently doesn't need any Windows-native dlls to run, so that's good.

Older wine versions as far back as 1.4.something don't work either. |

CCP took notice of the OSX issue but it's quite sad to see nothing about Linux yet. Even then the OSX issue maybe linked to the Linux issue anyhow due to both being similar and appearing the same time... |

It's more than likely that this issue will get fixed soon. It's not just Linux and Mac OS, many Windows users are still having troule as well, some of them are even reporting issues quite similar to our flickering. Eve is borked somehow, wine is probably just amplifying the problem. |

I've had that problem for a long time, didn't affect the Gameplay though.
Been trying several Wine releases (Stable and Development), and searched high and low to fix the error, but no luck.
But again, I don't believe it has any relevance to the problem caused by the 1.1.4 patch.

Thank you. Keep up the good work you had been doing regarding Linux support in Wine for atl least since Nov 2012 (when I started playing). Would be great if it became a supported platform again. Steam-OS will probably reache quite far in the near future.
