I know, this doesn't make any sense at all, which is why this is proving so difficult to fix. There were really no relevant changes that triggered this. We'll see how things are after today's patch, and I'll keep monitoring bug reports and the forums for info from you guys.

I've gone through all changes to the graphics engine that went out in the patch that seems to have triggered the black screen on character select, and we're basically reverting those changes when running on a Mac. We're grasping at straws here, but I feel we have to try something. Sorry, something went wrong in prepping the patch, it will be delayed until tomorrow. I'm hoping to get the build out on a test server today so we can at least see if the code change helps - check back later for details.

Hello all,
maybe my experience will help.
I am running EVE Multibox (I mean more than one client simultaneously) on my Mac Mini Late 2009 upgraded with SSD disk and 8GB RAM. My EVE Client is set to lowest graphics in windowed app (no fullscreen)
I have client data cloned to multiple starting icons (done with EVE Clone Maker - https://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Multiple_clients#Using_the_EVE_Clonemaker; link to forum - https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=17208)) so I am starting directly to login screen (no launcher)
I am experiencing a black window after entering my login credentials and system is not responding for few second.
To complete login I have to click on dark screen in place where is usually character I want to play (1st third from left if I want to play with my last-played character) and then login continues to login normally, usually with no other graphical problems.
Normal start (no clicking on black screen) is taking about 40 minutes. --- Updating EVE: For update I have to use normal launcher for downloading the necessary data.
Today I was not able to download the data and launcher was freezing.
Deleting the cache for EVE helped me: 1.) open Package Content (right click) of your EVE Online client in Applications 2.) go to Content -> Resources -> cache 3.) delete content of this folder 4.) start launcher 5.) start EVE via cloned app
Ping me in game if you will need more details :-) |

Except multi client, that's how I play since yesterday : bypassing launcher, setting turned to window mode, and graphic settings optimized for memory. Then, as you say, I have black screen flickering for few seconds, sometimes I have to select character without seing them and then everything works correctly.
I've just seen there's a new patch... I'm going to try it at once

@ Dark Eirlys: There is a problem with opening the map in stations crashing the client since dec2012 (yes 2012!). Now they are at least working on the "new" bugs, give them some time. Maybe they will come up with a solution that keeps eve playable for at least another month (or year) or so. That would be worth the wait, wouldn't it? |

Ok, downloaded the patch this morning and instead of a black screen I got to the character select screen. During the startup process my monitor was flickering then became stable. Clicked on my character and in about 8 seconds an error message popped up on my screenGÇönever seen an error message popup like this beforeGÇöwhich said:

Just a wild guess but is it possible that maybe an update with Java or Flash Player is contributing in this issue since not all MACs are being affected? Not everyone always updates their version Flash or Java whenever a new version is availableGǪ |

An update:
After the reinstall did not work, I tried to move my EVE Online folder, within the Library > Application Support folder, to the trash and run the game. That creates a new EVE folder. Now, I log in and the game completely crashes immediately. Can't command + alt + escape anymore, I now have to completely turn my computer off every time I start EVE. So, it made the issue worse. This "fix" is what was recommended to me via support ticket.
I tried to move the folder from trash back into the Application Support folder to overwrite the new folder created when I tried this fix, but that did not work as I received the error message: The operation canGÇÖt be completed because the item GÇ£wineserver-Scotts-MacBook-Air.local-scottleonardGÇ¥ is in use. This was also recommended by the support ticket.
Now, I will be unable to update my skills. Before, I could not play the game, but I at least could update my skills as long as I did it in under 30 - 60 seconds.
This has been happening on all 3 of my accounts since around February 2nd. 9 x 3 = 27 days. 27 days of USD paid game time wasted. |

Not wasted, put through a petition and hopefully they will give us something to make up for all of this, maybe PLEX(s), not just game time or game time. |

I found a good repro for the massive graphic flickering issue (which may be related to the freezes, or may not, but it's certainly waaaaay worse in 1.1). I've bugreported it, but in brief:
If you bring up a killmail, and then **RAPIDLY** move the mouse up and down over the items in the Fitting and Content list items, other graphic elements (the character portrait, the ship icons, etc) will flicker in a very similar manner to the big flickering on on character selection page. No clicking is required, just mouse movement (and the associated hilighting of items in the list)
HOWEVER, if you move the mouse up and down more slowly, no flickering will occur. One possibility is that it requires multiple state changes per rendered frame to trigger this behavior. Like any honest politician, "My door is always open, and my hand is always out" |

My launcher crashed today and froze for the second time since Rubicon 1.1 launch. First time was early last week. I ended up redownloading the whole client. I thought not being able to play then, for an entire evening was unusually frustrating while waiting for the client to download. That really says a lot.
If I had to do it again today. I won't say I'd quit Eve, but I would stop playing and paying until the issues were resolved. Don't get me wrong. I see CCP Devs in the forums and it's obviously they are working hard on a fix. The weird thing is this, I feel like I'm kind of stuck in some crazy country music song played backwards. Now that I'm not playing Eve, my dog came back, my wife's home again, even got my pick up truck running.
All joking aside, thanks to Luke Egdald, I was able to clear the cache and my launcher is working once again, downloading the latest patch (and ever hopeful all our crashing issues are behind us). Very grateful I did not have to go through downloading the client again! Thanks Luke! |

Today's Patch seems to work. I was able to undock, warp through gates and back with no game freeze issues. The game graphic settings I left as is, since some report altering them did not improve the situation. Whatever CCP did with today's Patch worked, though I am still curious to know what last week's (Feb. 4, 2014) Patch did to screw with the MAC version of EVE. |

Downloaded the patch just now and there is no change whatsoever.
I run the eve launcher, login and enter the program. It begins to load the hanger and freezes. I cannot force quit, I must turn off my entire computer.
My original problem, as I stated, was that after a short period of gameplay everything would "lock up." By lock up, I mean that i could not warp, dock, turn on modules, lock items. I could still spin the camera, move the mouse over items and have the cursor change, and sometimes even open up boxes (character screens, mail) but the boxes would never load, they would simply open up with no content within them.
After I followed the eve support ticket's instruction, also stated above, the client now simply freezes upon opening the game.
Just wanted to clarify my specific issue that I believe others here also have. I have never received a black screen. When my client freezes, the graphics stay up, they just do not progress. |
