Flickering UI Assets.
Hello I have been playing EVE for 3 days as a trial member the game ran great no issues; I paid for a sub last night ran great. Then this morning I started the game it patched and now my UI is Flickering. To be precise the Character Select screen is flickering. The Ship Control Panel is Flickering The Neocom Panel is flickering. And as for the Neocom Panel it looks like itGÇÖs even drawing the wrong assets for the panel.
My Specs are. CPU Q9000 @ 2.00GHz Quad Core RAM: 8 GB OS: Vista 64-bit OS sp 2 Video Cards: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3870 x2 Video Driver Version: 8.970.100.3000 Direct X Version: 11
As I have just started playing EVE is this an issue with the patch or was there a cliant version change from the paid to the full version of the game. As I just spent $80 last night to play eve this is most disheartening, |

Looks exactly like the issue, the most linux users have after the patch. No fix right now. Seems to be a bug in the new client. Very annoying. |

I run eve off a usb stick at work, using vmworkstation 10, worked excellent for months, but today nothing but flickering screens. When I got home, installed vmware on my desktop and tried with it, same results. However outside vm, same desktop, eve runs fine. Suspect anything that's using any type of virtualisation is down. |

This thread is full of Linux users like myself experiencing the same issue, with a few Windows users chiming in as well. Seems to affect all Linux distros, kernels, and Wine versions.
One thing we've discovered is that the Singularity server seems to be free of this issue. Can you guys confirm this on Windows as well? |

I've noticed this flickering seems to be associated with running Crossfire on my Radeon cards... when I switch to windowed mode, without Crossfire, flickering goes away. |

I'm also getting Flickering UI 2D assets after yesterday patch. Running my 1 to 3 EvE windowed clients on a Parallels 9 VM running Windows 7. VM emulating DX9. Not issues (excepting heavy load on GPU (GTX 560Ti) until yesterday patch.
Game is now almost unplayable. No crashes for me. |

Yeah so I posted on the linux thread by accident.
I am the exact same issue running windows. This has got nothing to do with what OS you are operating.
EDIT: ALso no crashes, only flickering assets and also tears across the screen.
Game is unplayable in this condition. |

Maybe you should roll back the patch and then start investigating?
Either way I'm not re subbing until this issue has been resolved. |

We've not been able to repro this inhouse, but we have theory. Hoping to have a fix in a patch tomorrow. |

Crazy Idea: Reproduce this in wine? I know, that would not help to track down the problem itself, at is would be hard to debug. But it could help to verify issue and fix. |

Today's patch did not resolve the issue on the Linux side of things, it seems.
CCP Snorlax, are there any particular log files or anything that those of us who are experiencing this could upload that would help? |

Torval Shank, maybe you should try to start EVE from terminal and save the output?
I'll try to gather some info on my ubuntu, but i'm using Crossover Office to run EVE Win Client. Till the latest patch everything was great. |

If things don't improve after tomorrow's patch I'll resurrect my Linux partition on my laptop and see if I can repro this. As Loki pointed out, this might be the easiest repro case for us, even if Linux isn't technically supported... |

The neocom icons get their order/positions wrong as I mouse over it. The same images are mispositioned where brackets and module icons should be. They also seem to attach & spin as modules show their cycling UI. To me it looks like a 2D positioning/graphical assets indexing bug. |

Got the new patch today and, it seems to be worse now than yesterdayGǪ.. The rate of flickering has increased. The character select screen is not just flickering its colors are all washed out and the portrait is now pink. The rate of flicker on the UI has increased. |

Snorlax,
We ( The linux players) greatly appreciate the effort despite that fact that we are not supported. There's more of us than most people realize. If there is anything we can do to help let us know. Some of us I'm sure can provide logs and wine debug output. |

My current question is what would it take to get ccp to make a supported client. We have thousands of linux users that you never hear from unless something goes horribly wrong. At that most of the time the linux community is more likely to help then the windows. The linux community is developers system administrators DBA's and few other choice professions along with a few people who want a free OS. There are resources like crowdfunds which would get you what you need as a startup cost. You require no windows dll's to run the game so it should be extremely easy to do. The developers here already help us and support us on there own time. Why not pay them for that effort and make this supported again once and for all. |

The only thing needed to bring support is a button on the front page with instruction on how to get the client and launcher running through wine. The game (up until yesterday) runs amazingly well in wine, and you guys at CCP are awesome to try and unofficially support the client in linux. Nothing code wise should be changed for linux support.
Just my 2 cents. |

I'm running on a Win7 32 bit VMWare Player machine, on top of Windows 7 64bit with the latest nVidia drivers. I've tried DirectX 9 and 11. I get the same issues the Linux/Wine users are having. Works perfect on my home machine directly (Win7, similar nVidia card). |

I would tend to agree. Ive been using linux for about 3 years with eve without any issues up till this point. Getting it supported would just make it easier for the devs on there end. on our end we will do what we have always done. |

vm users can use an old version WDDM 7.14.1.31 video driver. This was in like V6 V7 workstation 2009. Works flawlessly with that driver.
Noticed a lot of laptops dropping, same type of issues. There was a time with Open GL, it faced this problem, was the processor running faster than the game, creen flickered to compensate, kinda. The had to do a vsync to fix that.
This isn't open gl, but it is also antiquated software running on new hardware. I had lots of hair on my head when eve was originally coded. |
