I apologise in advance if this has been asked recently. I am to start a new alt char that I am gonna use only for science and maybe some manufactoring. How should I setup my new character?

Any race you like, none have any real advantage over another. You get racial frigate and weapon skills and a few other skills to start that's it. Set up a skill plan in EveMon and use it's optimise attributes to see what the best remap will be. |

the only thing race ever effects is the few levels of frigate skill you get when you first start. It used to be important back in the day, but no longer. |

Thanks for the quick replys. I have downloaded EveMon and started to dig into it now. Is there no way to choose certificates? Do I have to check out what skills are involved in every single certificate in-game? It's no big deal but it would make it a little easier... |

Certificates are only guidelines. They are not necessary for anything. If you want to get them you should already be interested enough to check out the skills for each.
However to me it sounds like you've just joined eve based on some anecdotal account. I suggest taking a bit to read relevant guides on what you want to do. This being science and industry, you could check ten ton hammer. Familiarize yourself moreso with google, which will answer most questions about mechanics. Stuff like "what should I build to make tons of money" is something you'll have to learn yourself. That said, there are programs out there that will calculate basically everything for you. I suggest you look into "eve isk per hour", an application, if you want to explore the industrial sides of EVE at length. |

Ignore the certs. They have some skills missing that you need and others that you don't. Go through the skills, plan out the ones you need for what you want to do. |

I have decided to make blueprints, do the mining with two of my other chars(I have two accounts) and to manufacture the items myself. So I will take care of the whole process on my own.
I have respeced my char with most points in intelligence, some in memory and minimum at the other attributes.
Thanks for the help guys, it helped a lot |

Producing all materials yourself will limit what and how much you can make. If you get into invention and T2 manufacturing you'll have to buy some raw materials.
Just buy what you need. Anything you can mine is bonus and extra mining income (not manufacturing income) |
