Stitcher wrote:The major obstacle to deploying meaningful EoF (EVE on Foot) content is that it would probably need a lot of time to finish, meaning it would have to be deployed in one of two ways: either there'd be a lean year or two of polish-and-tweak, low-feature expansions before the huge avatar-content expansion delivering everything at once, or else there'd be a year or two of expansions where the avatar gameplay was steadily deployed in episodic increments which would slowly add up to the full thing, but with each individual expansion being somewhat disappointing.
Sooo... How does this differ from what we are having now? Let's be realistic here, there hasn't been anything but fixes and balancing in the past two years. And nowadays mere balancing apparently is worth the title of expansion, when back in the day they balanced or tweaked ships several times a year during regular patches, not just every expansion. So yeah, I'll give them that the game needed all of those fixes and still couldn't hurt to have some more polishing done, but is this really what we have to live with now? Balancing, fixes, maybe a ship or new deployable structure and let's call that an expansion. Do we really have to wait 5 years for buildable stargates, and where do they lead, are they only nullsec player privilege (most likely, yes)? I really don't know what to think anymore. I love this game but I'm not sure I like where it's headed . |

In a way you are correct, but don't you ever get bored of PvP? Because I do. Sure it is fun, but you know, I like to branch out from time to time, and when I feel like doing PI, mining or exploring, no amount of ship balancing will give me any more content. |

i'd venture to suggest that it is not "new" content at all. to say, rather, that it is existing content that has been "rearranged" is more accurate. |

The problem is that Incarna's entire foundation was based on letting people walk around in their monocles and jackets, not on any form of 'meaningful' gameplay.
You're basically asking for CCP to write an entire new game within the Eve client out of the wreckage of Incarna whilst also continuing development work on Eve, Dust, Valkyrie and (lol) WoD. idk. if you are playing chess and are looking at the board and decide "ok. the knight is no longer going to move in a L shape. it's going to move in a V shape instead." That, to me, is not new content. it's just changing existing conditions of the game. now, if you added a new piece to the board with a new function...that would be new content.
I understand your position, rhes, and see where you are coming from. it's just that I don't think the distinction is meaningless. I think it's actually pretty fundamental. |

No its not its called they re balanced the ships in general and made them viable.. It's not new content.. That would be like me taking space coloring it a different color and adding brighter stars... Some of you have a warped sense of whats actual content...
Incursions semi new content.. DeD site and complexes could be considered new content when they were released as it put in new things to actually go blow up.... (not to mention some of the lore behind some of this stuff is pretty decent.)
WiS would have been new content..
Fixing broken content Retooling ships to make them viable not new content...

If rebalancing was the only thing CCP had done since Incarna you might still have room to complain but it's obviously not.

1. Not sure if an honest question or the same people asking about this over and over again with alts.
2. It was Micro transactions that caused the riots not ambulation.

Yeah, I don't know how the microtransactions got conflated with the WiS features, but just like with Aurora, both CCP and the EVE community seem to have have a long emotional memory that's kinda fuzzy on the specifics and such things don't happen because of all the unjustified fuss that's made if you mention the subject. |

The re balancing did add content. I had to look at freaking Evelopedia to figure out WTF a scythe or a breacher was the 1st time i encountered them in low sec after CCP redid cruisers lol, honestly don't remember seeing one before that (never paid attention to the tabs that described what hull the Scimitar I fly was based on lol).

My impression was it was less about WiS than about lack of fixes for suck chest wound class of bugs, and outrage against pay to win golden bullets. Most players won't mind walking in station if didn't impact development of other aspects of the game. Nor do they object to pay for barbie's dress up. What happened is CCP work up to an enraged player base who didn't care about WiS, but cared about flying in space. They adjusted development resources to fill what the players actually want rather than walking in station. Former forum cheerleader CCP, now just a hopeful small portion of the community. |

My point is they were near to some form of release of station walking that would have allowed us to stretch our legs beyond the quarters.
Agreed not fully functioning but certainly alpha/beta finished. The station interiors do exist but were abandoned
That footage was released 6 or more years ago. It was built using the Unreal Engine, a project that was ultimately dropped because CCP wanted to build their own CARBON engine, which Eve now runs on. I am afraid that footage is more or less irrelevant now except for people to be pissed that CCP didn't just use the original Unreal Engine game play. Sorry to burst your bubble, but people have known about that stuff for some time. The latest in station footage to get released was leaked from a demo of the very early gameplay of the Exploration Prototype, from two years or so ago. Looked great, but it was built in Unity and would need to be remade from scratch using CARBON (as far as I am aware).

Those quotes are meaningless while there isn't a single developer working on WiS nonsense. They can envision or "have an interest" in whatever they want but as long as there's nobody actually writing code for additional WiS stuff it's all just pandering to delusional roleplayers.

I love the aesthetics of the Captains Quarters, of having your character in a real environment. All the character creation stuff is pretty moot without it- it hardly gets shown off. But people are absolutely right, it's auxiliary to a game that's about spaceships, CCP can't dedicate resources to developing it for EVE.
That's why I was excited for WoD- it looks like they took what they had in EVE and ran with it, trying to make a game where all that stuff matters more and they can justify developing it for that game's sake.
So when I asked if they'd thought about using that to feed back improvements to EVE and kept the two compatible, I was very disappointed to learn that WoD had forked away from EVE and there wasn't any plans to use it a a sly way to improve EVE's character stuff off the back of it. Missed a trick there, CCP. |
